Big fan of this. When you start it it only lights up the needles, does a "calibration" sweep, then fully lights. All red for the least eyestrain and maximum edge.
>>28962859 >When you start it it only lights up the needles, does a "calibration" sweep, then fully lights absolute kino. eletroluminescent gauges rule. for me it's the GR cluster with the absolutely gigantic rev gauge
>>28963651 >f**k this captcha Try another browser. Found it awful using Brav, but now I'm using Firfox it's too easy, after it learns you. Only one easy test for me, or not required.
>>28963822 You have to post a while and the captchas get way easier. I assume it’s cookie based because I can use another device on the same IP and it makes me do the crazy challenges. Oddly enough one of my $35 phones says I’m “range banned” when it doesn’t even have a SIM card and is on the same network as my other machines.
>>28964004 >both axis arent defined True true. I just saw the 5252 (Torque Peak and derived HP cross) and then the Dropoff, which always indicates Torque...
>>28963651 They do look very nice when the work, and the conditions are ideal but they are less useful than analog gauges in my opinion. Here was mine.
1994 SC400 was the best of both worlds to me. The needles light up and amber light shines from behind the cluster to illuminate everything. When you turn the key, the needles light up before the cluster. Really cool.
>>28966356 Mine was the reverse of this. Tach was analogue and the speed was digital. It was a Sonic not a Spark but the shape of the panel looks the same.
>>28967077 this is actually crazy especially considering they're stock gauges in a car that came out 60 years ago and look better and more modern than current aftermarket setups.
>>28970002 >there's no problem with it dude.. It never should have been approved by the DOT. 1. unnecessary eyestrain 2. added workload for drivers (subconscious)
>>28963651 man I always wanted a 300zx since I was in high school. Never ended up getting one. Now I have a Grand Marquis. Same era but completely different.
Picrel is not my pic but is how my dash looks. It's nice but not nearly as cool as the 300zx digital dash.
80s/90s Jap cars with digital dashes were the peak IMO. Still didn't go far enough for my taste, I want an interior that looks like an early F-18 cockpit, or something like that.
>>28971098 i love the toyota ones, apparently they weren't as good to use if you were pushing the car or racing because the tacho refresh rate wasn't fast enough. don't think that'd bother me though. they even had a button when the fuel gauge got low enough (iirc 1/4 tank) to show increased resolution so you could see just how much was really left in the tank.
>>28971156 Friends dad has a supra (iirc) back in the late 80s that had 2 fuel gauges. A normal one and then another that was extremely accurate for 1/8th to empty.
>>28963976 >>28963651 >>28963117 Indiglo-green gauge light colors were the fucking best. I personally love Ford's not-quite-blue they used in the 90s trucks and sedans but it's all good.
>>28971161 >extremely accurate for 1/8th to empty. that's the one. the mark ii had a button on the gauge cluster that you could press to toggle between the two. kinda highlights the excesses they had at the time.
>>28971840 60-62 chryslers had them, the astradome. the electroluminescent gauges (also seen in >>28967077) are also something else, photos really don't do it justice, it's one of those things you have to see yourself to really appreciate just how beautiful it looks.
>>28971449 1952-53 Ford. The way the thread was going, I'm surprised I got a (You) in it lol Ilike the look of that Valiant and love the push button trans buttons mounted that high
>>28970326 I thought about posting one as a bit of a troll because I knew the thread would be filled with try hard modern shit like >>28969209 but I couldn't find a decently lit pic on google. Pic rel was about as good as I could find. Most were taken too far away and the cluster was dark too.
>>28972290 yeah, chrysler was something else entirely in the 60s. they even made the first projector headlight but due to the whole sealed beam requirement, and normies of the time not truly lighting tech wouldn't become more common for 20 years. a shame the laws couldn't be updated to at least let projectors be used, maybe even in pre-existing headlight buckets.
>>28962851 Perhaps the most underrated detail on the 3rd gen Lexus GS (I've owned 2) is that the gauge cluster is machined aluminum that tints itself a gorgeous dark blue with a light sensor positioned in the rear of the cabin so that it's more visible on bright days. I currently daily the 450h and it fits the rest of the car so perfectly.
>>28962851 Friend of mine owns a Honda Civic Si with a red colored instrument cluster that looked really cool at night, I don't remember where my photos of it were or what model year it was. I just thought the red theme was just very good on my eyes.
>>28976342 clearly goes up to at least 5k, maybe even 5.5k, no real standard for what defines max rpm exists, usually its at redline or 500rpm after it it's an old truck v8 it's impressive it even does that much let alone the new ones that will gladly do 7k still with one single camshaft
