Best gas comes from truck stops, they're held more accountable to have a good bang for buck because truckers will rate their gas for the mileage they got out of it. That's Pilot, Flying J, Loves (though I'd put Loves pretty low, they have some shitty locations that they don't clean up).

Second is gonna be Chevron, you pay more but get more out of the gas. When I used to autistically track my fuel economy, out of an 06 Sentra I'd get 30 more miles per tank than Shell.

Third Shell, they're middle tier.

Shit tier is Costco and Arco. You get shit mileage and they fuck up your engine. I currently use Costco just because it's convenient to fill up after I shop, I'm getting like 50 less miles per tank than a few months ago. That's probably due to the Trump disaster, they're adding more ethanol. Costco has already been sued multiple times for fucking up people's engines. God i need to stop being cheap.

Stations get their gas from the same distributors. The only difference is the detergent blend which is measured in parts per million. All gas stations have detergents, it’s required. Addin one or two more molecules per million of gas isn’t going to make a difference. They all have their filtration systems inspected.

Edmonton Circle K 1 month ago had water contaminated gas. That's what can happen at gas stations when fuel quality checks are skipped, maintenance's skipped causing leaks and rain water going into underground gas containers.

Which is an amusing return to form ime. In the 70's all the ones around me smelled like weed though I didn't know that until a bit later. They all had tall fronts (20+ ft) that were all-glass with a roof that angled down from the front to the rear and a large overhang over the front sidewalk. Probably a late 60's design. The floors were painted a shamrock green. In all felt kinda dim despite all the glass.

The nearby 7-11 was much nicer. New construction in a strip mall with 2 pumps out front and a small 2-game arcade in an alcove. By the 90's it was a worn-out shithole that didn't get fixed until Maverik/Circle K bought them out.

The regional Cirkle K's were largely moribund in the late 70's and Maverik Markets were the ones on the upswing and eventually Maverik bought out all the regional Circle K's, cleaned up their act bought new properties for both and bascially had a lock on all the area convenience store business because they were fucking everywhere. Literally occupying all four corners of intersections sometimes. Somewhere along the way they rebranded as Stripes and now they're being bought out by 7-11!

They were the comfiest gas stations for some reason, maybe because they never really bothered "modernising" ever since the 90s and early 00s.
Sure they replaced the pumps with fancy new ones that had card readers and maybe even contactless payment in some places, they also were the pretty much the only machines that also took bills too, with every other station going card only.

Then the cafeteria was stuck in the late 90s, with a news paper stand, dubious quality coffee in paper cups and that sausage steamer by the cashier.
The clientele was always construction workers and retired boomers who manned the corner tables 24/7.
Every time I was just cruising around the country aimlessly, Teboils were my go to pit stops.
The boomers in there also had the wildest stories to share.

Floridaman here. 7-11 is the classic goat. Appreciate Racetrack for most locations being well lit and having decent coffee. Wawa is a good hoagie when you don't feel like paying for Publix. Don't ever get gas from a Walmart in a car older than 2020

Sheetz is the best in my neck of the woods. Middle of the road prices, free air, pretty good made to order food, clean bathrooms, and a good beer cave. I almost always kick off a road trip by stopping at Sheetz. Close second would be GetGo, and they offer almost all the above, but their food is slightly worse and the gas isn't as reliably cheap. Also, the one near me us much lower class than the Sheetz next exit down.

Anytime I'm on a road trip and need to stop for gas or the bathroom, Kwik Trip/Kwik Star had always been consistently good.
