What about the DR250 or 350?
Like is it possible to push bikes like these (or the XR’s) harder than say a crf450?

The crf450rl i have is breddi kewl
But they also cancelled the xr650l after this year
The actual honda civic of the bike world is the vfr800, dortbikes/dualsport/enduro are their own unique special snowflake routine list of fuckarounds, if used properly

I’m looking at a 2001 rm250. I’m thinking about going this weekend to pick it up, but man I really don’t wanna drive 3 hours.
Guy wants $2400 for it. Honestly, talk me into it if I should get it, anons. I’ve had 2 other 250 2 smokes before.

A Ural sleeper seems pretty feasible. Its a project but
>the sidecar wheel is driven by the motorcycle engine just like the motorcycle wheel
I believe you could flip that system around or build a new system to engage both wheels and hide a silly size engine in the sidecar. You could keep the Ural engine in the frame and even turn it on so no one would know you have like a straight 8 in the sidecar. I guess the challenge would be not flipping over backwards.

The magic of something like the DR650 is that it doesn't come with the motocross maintenance. Something like a crf450 or Husqvarna 701 are powerful because they're high performance tuned which comes with maintenance counted in engine hours rather than by thousands of miles.
Modern bikes that are similar would be bikes like the KTM 390 enduro R or Adventure and the DRZ4S.

Ive posted in DBT before how ive owned like 10 different brands of bikes over the years (dirt and street) but never a suzuki. Covered the other 3 Nippons and shit down to Motoguzzi and even I wouldnt walk away from that deal (if its as clean as the pic implies- dentless factory pipe just screams "wife's bike, only ridden twice".
If you puss out atleast post dudes number so someone else (me) can snag it.

My bad.
On mobile the pipe looked fresh but I checked original image and its beat to fuck.
But....
Looks like factory tires. Front is damn near new and back is worn about half.
Thats a good indication of mileage.
Probably someone bought it and realized he wasnt a rider.
Dropped it more times than a needle on a RUN DMC album.
Ill bet nothing has been replaced. Bitch probably still has factory oil in the crank.
Still would.

the ktm 690 doesn't have mtx enginge maintenance. it doesn't have service intervals counted in hours, you can check the manual yourself the oil changes and valve inspections are to be done at 6,200 miles which is nearly double that of the DR. it's not any more high tuned than your average sport bike.
essentially, it's what you would get if suzuki made a new dr650 scratch in the late 2000s, gave it an actually half decent engine, and built it from quality components. the japanese manufactuers have neglected the dual sport market so badly people think carbureted 90s donkeys like the DR and xr650l are the only way you can make reliable dirt bikes with normal maintenance. the truth is more like no one wants to make a a decent single cylinder over 450cc anymore because they don't make financial sense. R&D is expensive and you basically can't use the motor for anything besides a big bore dual sport which is a crowded low demand market segment that ktm has already conquered.

I knew it was Krankit before I even clicked the link.
I mostly agree, especially about JP being cheap cunts when it comes to suspension, but I can't sing the praises of any KTM engine in reliability. The DR650 and xr650l also came from a time where you were expected to keep the damn thing running with a socket set, some JIS screwdrivers, and some hex keys, just like a real dirt bike, before emissions and computers made this shit way more complex.
This isn't just aimed at KTM. Look at the mid 90s Transalps and Africa Twins compared to today's, or any of the old Rotax BMWs. Modern engines run circles around the older ones, but I just don't see any of today's 690s or ATs that guys will still have in great running condition in 2050.
Actually, I don't think many people today even give a shit about that concept anyway.

The thing is I feel like all in all I’d probably get more out of an XR, but at the same time, I love the power of a 250 2 smoke.
XR-
>light
>longer intervals between maintenance
>reliability
2 smoke-
>more power
>can do crazy stuff
>a lot more maintenance (unfortunately a negative)
