pro-tip: skip the entire section between roanoke and the nc border, the views suck, unless you are just a completist
the part between the start near charlottesville and roanoke actually is kinda nice
the section between the linville gorge and asheville is still closed and has some of the best views and hikes so wait until that's open, the online map isn't always 100% accurate and updated, call the blue ridge visitors center for best info
linville gorge has some great hikes but the roads are TRASH and I don't recommend it unless you have off-road-ish tires and strong legs
the best views are near linn cove (you do not park at the bridge itself, you park in the adjacent overlooks and walk on a path just off the road for the views) and I would say roughly between looking glass rock and cowee mountain is maybe the best of the overlooks
if you have time, check out the main road in the smokies for overlooks and the paved trail up kuowhi/clingman's dome as well as the cherohala skyway which runs nearby
I recommend white labs brewing for pizza and fancy fries in asheville

oh an its not ON the parkway, and it costs extra money, but blowing rock (parking lot, walk through gift shop, other side is a mini-park with a view) has a quite unique view that allows you to see all the way to mt mitchell (which you probably should also see, it's right off the parkway)
I saw SOOOOO many motorcycles when I was just there, oddly ATVs too which I wasn't expecting.

yeah, 35 for some
its just kinda crowded esp on weekends and early afternoons
and motorcycles and atvs are noisy, and llots of people were bringing jdm tuner cars to hoon them around when I was there
as well as the usual porsche and bmw sports car suspects
