this, i used a sling bag for like 10 years as my day to day bag, but it was shifting around a lot on my body when doing activities and if i filled it up with heavier stuff it would put way too much pressure on just one shoulder instead of distributing it across both

I have this Decathlon fishing sling bag, but wouldn't use it for a day hike. It good for the city or when you need minimal equipment but for a hike a normal backpack is better.

I use those little drawstring knapsacks they give away at trade shows. It turns out that those are really good for bringing snacks, first aid kit, and sunscreen for the kiddos. Rain jacket for the spouse too, because Lord knows she won't bring hers.

i have this one and love it. it's by far the most used ultralight soft good i own, though my tufa rock climbing chalk bag and my ultralitesacks trail wallet are strong contenders for #2 and #3. i think it's a good idea to have a small collection of really high quality bags; i just repurposed a large ditty bag out from storing spare things, to being a dedicated container for climbing shoes

They seem worse than a regular backpack in every respect. The only use case I see is if you need to frequently rotate your bag in the front to access its content.

I use a 7 liter Belroy.
Carries an altoid fak, disposable poncho, chapstick, extra batteries, compact battery pack, lighter, n95 mask, silicone earplugs, sak with a small keychain flashlight, phone, keys, wallet. A separate camera lens when I go out doing photography.

Overall it's a tight fit. I want to get a 9 liter bag for when I do photography.
