What do you guys think?
Any ideas
I'm thinking it could be a weekly thing with a specific theme each week

Sir, this is a gear board.
I'd be interested to see a snapshit submission thread where we each all take post our favourite snapshits, because let's face it that's moslty what we do here.
Do it within reason, so nothing with a flash, nothing staged, within the last year etc. Snapshit should be moderately interesting to win but anything fundementally good is disqualified. Any rule of thirds faggotry and you're IP banned and so forth.

We've had them in the past for many years, and photobooks, and traveling cameras
Each month or so had a specific theme, and OP provided links to a poll for users to vote
Used to also have roll threads, where digits told you what kind of picture to take

It would have to be monthly given how dead the board is, and even then, the last we had an anon organizing them, they typically got under 10 replies, sometimes half that

I planned to but I wanted some ideas for the themes that we could use, so that I could encourage participation with things that /p/ users would want to post

Thanks for the input. That might actually be a better idea

I think you could. Give us a couple of theme suggestions that you'd like to see

No one is stopping you from making a thread

Instead of being specific why not do "modes of transportation" or just "transportation" that way the prompt is open to creative interpretation and lets people who don't like taking pictures of cars/trains/planes contribute images.

Anon wanted challenge thread ideas where submissions have themes.
The other Anon wanted a snapshit competition thread.
Two different things that can exist at the same time. Dude was just pointing out that if they wanted a snapshit thread that they can make one.

We used to have monthly challenge threads (as a week is honestly too short) but the OP left after a few years of running them. They were honestly pretty good, but some of the challenges were also a bit too difficult for enough people to compete in, so that lessened how many people contributed.
