It is very hard to get a competitive internship from Alabama, because the top firms hire interns from the same dozen or so schools whose undergrad they trust is not being retarded, or you get into a competitive business society that may or may not exist at any given school. Bama isn't one of them. It's a waste of a perfect SAT. It's for someone with a 1400, not a 1600. It makes that person's career harder than it needs to be vs going to the universities top firms actually recruit from, which for the most part is not SEC schools that love to make shit up about how they're the New Ivies or Harvard of the X. They are not.

That’s not how it works for STEM degrees. A place like Goldman Sachs hires like 1,000 new grads a year. But engineers want to work at places like Lockheed Martin or Microsoft or something. Any company you can name, they probably recruited at my school. Also, unlike finance, the “elite firms” don’t necessarily pay the best. Lockheed Martin is notorious for shitty compared to similar opportunities. People work there cuz they like fighter jets or something. NASA is one of the most competitive, and they literally pay dogshit cuz it’s a government gig.

No. It's a relatively recent development where you have these "investment societies" student clubs with selective recruiting. Basically, students that have interned with places like Goldman Sachs etc bring back intern-type work for undergrads in the club, and the selectiveness of the recruiting and trust built from previous interns allows people an easier path to a good job. I'll admit, this level of extra grind that I hear about now is a recent development.
