a big reason is that the social hierarchy of the military operates drastically differently from civilian social hierarchies and to have to submit to the civilian social hierarchy is honestly a very insulting experience.

id rather use my military training to take what I want from civilians than submit and conform to civilian social hierarchies, which I view myself as above having to do.
