About fucking time, Tony. Sure is great you waited until a random Dynamite instead of when Lil' Nigga came back from Everest.

TV is the primary money maker, ya gotta make TV matter, ya gotta do big stuff on TV sometimes.
>Makes Hangman and Omega look weak as fuck too.
I disagree, Hangman was in a totally different type of match and Omega was never able to cover MJF after hitting his finisher. Darby punished MJF's cheating to create an opening, then hit his finisher four times.

Yes. Bell rings, he hits like five Stinger Splashes, Death Drop, Death Lock, Hogan taps like a bitch.
This kinda thing should happen more often, especially for babyface title changes. It makes the babyface look like they were properly prepared for the moment and took it seriously. Just beat the fuck out of the heel before he gets the chance to do all of his cheating and it teaches fans that they have to pay attention to the entire match.

I watched both live you retard. The fucked up ref finish in 97 was bad enough to send WCW towards decline. The finger poke of doom just sealed it as it completely undid anything NWO wolfpack. Darby winning should have been a long bloody match at a ppv. Real simple straightforward booking not something rushed on TV.
>>
>>
>>20250084
The show sucked and the crowd was dull, so it hurt this moment. They should have cut Willow's bullshit match and given more time for the main event's entrances and some big pyro for this fuckin hero's big win

>Darby winning should have been a long bloody match at a ppv. Real simple straightforward booking not something rushed on TV.
That's what all of AEW's babyface title wins have been. Moxley, Hangman, Swerve, Bryan, Hangman again, they were all long, grueling builds that culminated in long, grueling matches. You have to throw a change-up SOMETIMES.
Also, Darby's been trying to win this world title since the second episode of Dynamite. There's plenty of history here. They even did a video package about the side headlock takeover thing.
>>
>>20250199
And the WCW guys afterwards when they talked about it years later said they fucked it up cause they could have had 100,000 people at a ppv crowd for it and made WAY more money when WCW was losing money at the time.
>>

>It makes the babyface look like they were properly prepared for the moment and took it seriously.
In Darby's case I think it would've worked better if he had a match or matches before this one that showed that he needs to be smart instead of reckless to win.
>>
>>
>>20250236
That's a good idea, but I can accept the implied growth here with Darby not being afraid to hit a low blow and utilize an opening over the the same exact smug guy who was doing the same exact shit to others constantly. If it builds up to a more vicious and outraged legit heel MJF (as opposed to the cool wink nudge schtick he always does) then it might be the perfect dynamic for the long bloody battle anons have been clamoring for here at the ppv.

good for him
I actually turned the show off as when I put it on a Kenny Omega who looked like he's had AIDS for several years was cutting an awful promo with Ospreay. Then some nigger zoomers came out with neon gear like a shitty episode of mid 2000s TNA and I realized AEW might not be for me.
I'd have watched this though but oh well.

Ok so Goldberg saying it himself that it was stupid to have the match on tv instead of ppv.

1) I don't think this is entirely accurate, they had advertised Goldberg vs. Hogan as a non-title dark match, THEN Bischoff made the decision to put it on TV and make it a title match.
2) This is a WWE documentary, they're as heavily inclined to shit on WCW as they can. The WCW guys doing that PPV know what side their bread is buttered on.
But, sure, if you wanna say they could've sold more tickets and a lot of pay per view buys if they'd just done it as a dark match as originally planned and saved the title match for PPV, sure. But that was a time when ratings mattered much less and Bischoff's obsession with them and particularly his obsession with short-term ratings was incredibly self-sabotaging. In today's landscape, TV is the most important thing. You're heavily incentivized to do stuff like this on TV to teach fans that they have to watch because important stuff can happen.

The dead giveaway was Ciampa saying he wanted the winner of the match. They're never doing MJF/Ciampa, even as a TV match, it's heel/heel and just doesn't make any sense. I think you could suspend disbelief through all the other stuff until Sting shows up (and at that point, it's a couple minutes away, so it's fine), but once Ciampa cuts that promo, it's kinda over.
Although I guess Knight also cut a similar promo, so maybe not.
>>20250493
Yeah I dunno if that's Goldberg kinda jerkin' himself off a bit or just trying to make the WCW brass look stupid, but the Georgia Dome doesn't even have that much capacity.
>>
>>20250480
Ok I can buy that but the way it went down was still stupid. They should have scrapped that Willow vs Camille match since that just buried Camille anyhow and allowed for more time within the 2 hour window to get the Darby vs MJF match done. I have no problem with Lil Nigga winning this match. I just hate how it went down since this was essentially built up his entire time since AEW started. It cheapens it. Doesn't feel fulfilling at all.
>>
>>20250532
I don't think it was a situation where they ran out of time, I think it's because they're running this match back at Double or Nothing and they don't want the main event to be a match they just gave away for free. So you get the big moment on TV, but they still saved something for PPV, is the idea.
I understand what you're saying. I can definitely understand preferring if they had a 15 minute TV match and then building off that match for the PPV. I like this, because I like when unpredictable stuff happens on TV and I think this kind of quick, chaotic victory fits Darby's character and almost all of his match are just him getting seven shades of shit beaten out of him, so him flipping the script and just destroying MJF is kinda subversive, but I can't say that a real match with real length to it probably wouldn't have felt better.

Tony couldn’t make Kenny a draw. Absolutely wasted his career.

Few things in wrestling have pissed me off the way Kenny's 2019 did. You don't take someone who has buzz and garners attention from everyone in the industry, when you're launching the first major arena/network TV rival to WWE in 18 years, and book a story that literally is "Yeah this hot new alternative promotion headed by the most raved about guy outside of WWE? Oops he's actually burned out and washed up and not what he was". You're shouting to the world that your top pickup is past his prime, jobbing him to an ex WWE lowercarder in Pac, and catering exclusively to "will always watch regardless" hardcore consumers of ALL content.

I think its fine for things like this to happen once in a while.
One of the few criticisms of AEW I agree with is that it feels like nothing happens on the weekly tv. Title changes like this need to happen to not make as obvious when someone is gonna retain.

Sorry, we're happy for Mr. Allin, but lng is an acronym for liquidified natural gas and both its supply and demand destructions are currently a very serious issue worldwide. So, out of respect, you'll have to change the name of your thread. Thanks for your attention to this matter

I don't understand why Omega took the easy way when he was in a company that was the red hot alternative at least Mox tried but Omega an the Young Bucks were in cruise control the whole time. I don't blame Cody for leaving that bullshit behind even though he has to deal with Paul's and TKO's celebrity bullshit every Wrestlemania.

Who does Darby defend against now?
>MJF
Doubt it
>Swerve
Lost in the toy box
>Ospreay
Currently stuck in Death Rider's vortex
>Moxley
Please god no
>Jericho
See above
Who else even is there? Bandido? Brody King? Andrade? Or is Tony going to pull a retarded move and push up a shitter like Ricochet or Ciampa into the world title picture? Shit is looking grim

there will 100% be a rematch at the ppv. after that? i don't know. maybe andrade since they had something going during their last match. i think forbidden door comes after so that's set.
personally i'm hoping for lashley to finally get a proper main event shot.

Building MJF up as someone who could legitimately face Kenny Omega, only to have him drop the title in a fucking squash match, is the company committing sudoku levels of garbage.
Absolute fucking shit. Happy for Darby, he deserves it, but come the fuck on man. On a random who cares ass Dynamite too? Fuck off. This shit SUCKED. (Congrats to Darby though, well deserved. No hate for the result, just the booking.)

Ciampa and Knight already cut promos, so Darby is going to do a lot of TV defenses against them and others, then he's going to lose it back to MJF at Double or Nothing and they're probably gonna do MJF vs. Ospreay for Wembley.
>>
>>20249770
I'm sorry but WTF is this shit?!
This is so weird and random and literally everyone involved looks bad because of it. MJF lost in a weak as fuck way, it makes everyone he's beat so far look weak as fuck (omega, hangma'am) and it does nothing for Darby because this wasn't some feud anyone was invested in. Complete waste of just about everything.

So basically Tony KWAB was watching old WCW and decided to copy-paste the Lex Luger title win over Hollywood Hogan from 97 onto Darby and MJF?
>>
>>20252011
You just don’t get wrestling.
Every world title change doesn’t need to happen at a big 4.
Also this makes weekly Dynamites themselves seem bigger and noteworthy having monents like this.
This was a brilliant way to get the belt on lil nigga.

I don't understand the hate for this
MJF needs to shoot a film
Give Darby one month with the belt and lose it at DoN. Thn just have him going back to being Darby and trying for the TNT title. I always imagined RVD should have had the same thing in the late 90s. Just one few week run just to say yeah I did it and go back to being what makes them, them. Also the belt looks fucking sick on Darby it's actually crazy.

Nobody hates this except for like one guy. I've waited since I dunno fucking Fyter Fest for lil nigga to get the world championship belt. It's about fucking time. I don't think it'll be a long run at all but I wouldn't mind it if it was.
