Humankind has finally begun its eminence over the world.
The nations are thriving, populations are booming, and the peoples of the surface have finally been granted the freedom and comfort to pursue finer pursuits like music, art, and crafting of frivolous things like toys and trinkets. At day, the Lights Above protect the world as they always have, and, even at night, their illumination is now harnessed to protect the settlements of man from the abyssal hordes. This peace, however, has been thrown into doubt.
Something is brewing beneath earth, out of the sight of the Lights Above. Cultists worshipping the Core and its false gods have been exploding in population, more and more Magecorps being corrupted to their cause. Monster activity has heightened, and the rate of their mutation has increased. Nobody quite knows how to explain all of these coinciding phenomena, but almost everyone can agree on this— whatever's happening, it cannot be good.
You, for better or for worse, are on the frontlines of this developing battlefield. Your party, the Dawnseekers is a relatively new Corps from a relatively new guild. Serving under the Dawnstone, your merry band of Spelldivers, for their own personal reasons, have opted to risk their lives to combat the Core's darkness. You, regardless of motive, are humanity's first line of defense.Link to relevant information including mechanics, equipment, and spell sigils: https://rentry.org/spelldivers

The Dawnseekers bring might and magic, yet the sheer, overwhelming numbers of the horde obstruct their better efforts. Hordes of tough, feathered bodies line the path, obstructing WINTRY, FLOCHE, OPHELIA, and EIGENGRAU from landing lethal blows upon the mighty Titaniform. THORNE, meanwhile, begins tearing his way through, blade ripping through one but suddenly stopping on the next as if by some invisible barrier. The Cumuloform shrieks, feathers bristling with power as a potent electromagnetism keeps his blade at bay.

JOROGUMO, meanwhile, finds no such obstructions, her Palebreath Spear skewering through victim after victim, its venom percolating through their thick, feathered hides before bursting into a conflagration of silvery-blue fire. Her attack reaches the towering Titaniform, but it alone is not enough to bring it to its knees.

>TITANIFORM
-Floche: HIT. 12 DMG shunted to Alaryck [8 Barrier, 12 HP > 8 HP]. 1 > 2 Lightning
-Conquest: HIT. 12 DMG shunted to Alaryck. 8 > 0 HP [HIEROSHIELD BROKEN]. 1 > 2 Lightning stacks
-Eigengrau: HIT. [HIEROSHIELD BROKEN]
-Lansa: HIT. [HIEROSHIELD BROKEN] (will be revived by fire)
-Alaryck (already unconscious, will be revived by fire)
>BOLTRUNNERS

-Hurdy-Gurdy: MISS.
-Warpig: MISS.
>CUMULOFORMS:

-Hurdy-Gurdy: MISS
-Warpig: MISS
-Thorne: MISS. Recoil dealt
The TITANIFORM wreaks havoc, crimson lightning singeing the fields and bathing the wheat and mages in its sinister red light. Total disaster is averted thanks to ALARYCK's noble resistance, though that enough is not sufficient to halt its wrath entirely. Thankfully, the other Boltrunners are far less effective, merely scratching the bulky recipients of their claws and currents, especially thanks to the frigid barriers placed by noble ALICIEL.
Their capacitance expended, numbers curbed and leader near death, the winds blow at the backs of the Dawnseekers as momentum shifts in their favor. What shall you do with it?

Seeing her colleagues collapsing, Roa begins moving to the front lines, anxious to blast the monstrosities before further damage can be done. However, the sound of splintering wood catches her attention. One of the beasts has reached the barricade!
“BRIGHTLANCE!”
Her radioactive blast strikes it with unerring accuracy, but it’s not enough. It’s still half alive.
“Another!” She calls for aid.
Her attack curls upwards, offering a healthy dose of radiotherapy to Cynthia, should the beast fall by someone else’s hand.

It all went well. Just as Hierophant demonstrated and just as you said. I'll try to keep this mind and not freak out again. The minor complication being the big one's not actually dead yet, but at least the Palebreath passed over Parsley and Wintry (and Warpig too lol).

As Thorne is intercepted in the dark, Jorogumo sniffs as she sees that the Titaniform still stands. Her expression remains sedate as ever. "Ah, alas, alack. I suppose such obstructions are to be expected in the ever-predacious dark. Nonetheless, this oversight shall be duly rectified."
She breathes out once more...

This fucker's been chunked by two Palebreaths (50 DMG or 54 DMG if there's the extra Poison stack applied >>6420226 + 4 DMG from Fire), so he has at least 26 HP from the start of this round.
Titaniform is gonna die now from my attack and then Ophelia's, by my reckoning. Paranoid thoughts:I am banking on the fifth Stratiform not being near Thorne during the enemy turn and giving a second boost to the Boltrunner 2 (my first target) for a DC of 10 (which would stop my attack entirely).

It seems Parsley's optimism in his peers was not misplaced, what with the cacophonous barrage of spells rising to meet the challenge presented by BIG GAME. It's almost enough to make him think that maybe there is something to this 'teamplay' idea after all. At least, until the titaniform sidesteps him as easily as he did its smaller cousin, prompting indignant outrage. How dare it ignore his spectacular self?! Has he not proven his mettle by standing here with robes unsoiled? To not even warrant a glancing attack-- certainly, he and Wintry are unarmed, but this is now how he wished it were so!
"You dare think me insignificant?! Come, my barbaric brethren, let us show this overgrown vermin the error of its ways in turning its tail towards us!" Quickly doddering along, he aims to stand behind WARPIG and let loose another blast that fortifies and shreds armour in equal measure, only for the warrior to step away before he can reach the right spot. Any word of protest he can muster is drowned out by LANSA's spell blasting right where he was about to step into, and he decides to hold his tongue for a change.

But wait. The moment of silence allows Parsley a rare moment of clarity. Between him and the quiet town they've gathered here to defend, past the titaniform's bulk, the irregular line of his comrades, and the occasional tree...
...is a single motherfucker pecking at the barricades.
"DAWNSEEKERS!" He screeches his voice hoarse, perhaps expending the most effort he's ever had to in his life. After-action reports would likely mistake it for one of the birds' death cries. "ABYSSKIN THREATENING THE TOWN! STOP IIIIIT!"

>Cast Sound The Horn
It seems the antagonistic forces of the abyss had plotted against him specifically. How dastardly! Not that he felt any pain in his empowered form, but still immensely disappointed his valiant charge was interrupted. The Dawnseekers return the assault of the Boltrunners on themselves, their comrades, and the innocent people of this village with righteous rage, gripping their foci with an intent that would be called murderous were these wretched monsters human. LANSA, JOROGUMO, CYNTHIA, and OPHELIA, a full fifth of the Spelldivers deployed to this mission turn their magic upon the Titaniform, a surge of flame and fury bursting forth, baptizing the giant avian beast in a conflagration of stars, silver, and soot. The beast shrieks, blackened feathers crumbling to ash in the air as it frantically thrashes about, crimson electricity surging over its body as it attempts to muster a counterattack, a truly terrifying capacitance building up within its core, threatening to leap forth at any time, and–
It stops.
The titaniform, having been sorely stripped of its illusions of invincibility, collapses pathetically to the ground, body blackened and bare, most of its skin and all its feathers burnt away. Looking at it, one almost feels a sense of pity— if not for its prodigious size, it really could have been an ordinary bird.
>LANSA experiences recoil. 2 damage taken
While most of the corps keeps their eyes on the giant, UR-GLARBAOTH and UNDYING ROA keep their focus on the task at hand. A straggler, perhaps out of desperation or perhaps out of cunning, slipped past the forward line, yet, before it can claw away at the wooden barricades keeping them at bay, it meets a gruesome end at the hands of their spells.
The remaining boltrunners galvanize, preparing one last desperate assault. Dawnseekers, can you destroy them before the attack comes?
[NOTE: some larger monsters will be able to be looted multiple times. The Titaniform may be looted THRICE.]

All that's left for his trouble is a coughing fit and a cold back, as the titaniform keels to the ground and is promptly beset upon by Jorogumo and Ophelia like vultures.

It’s very dead due to the attacks from the other two, might I suggest looting it instead? Position is good too, next turn the four of us can hit the rest of them pretty hard. Assuming they don’t spread too far, I think it would be good if:
-Ur shoots blue, getting it to 10
-Floche shoots red with 1 bullet that does at least 4 damage, then as many as possible into green
-Cookie stabs green
-Roa deals the last 11 needed to kill both smaller ones auto hit red, 87.5% success chance on blue, then hits green
This should maximize our threat elimination and reduce overflow wastage, unless I’ve misread some spells

//Sorry about the wait, my upload to 4chan has been fucked. Hoping this works with image and dice.//
The Boltrunners finally recover from tbe daze of losing their leader, powerful legs crackling with static as they channel their latent mana into devastating magic. They have suffered great losses, yes, but the flock is still the flock, and it shall not see any of its members die without retribution. You are no longer mere obstacles to these monsters— you are predators, dangerous and hateful, and their only means of survival is to see you mages drop dead.
The Dawnseekers, meanwhile, are far more focused on resources than retribution. Most of the mages race across the charred plain, snatching up whatever usable materials exist in the burning bodies before they're claimed by the spells that felled them— or worse, the flesh-rending beaks of their fellow Boltrunners.
Others, meanwhile, keep their focus on the battle at hand. ROA, COOKIE, and EIGENGRAU prepare for the next volley, one focusing on her offense, one her defense, and the latter the bullets needed to cast his own spells. Others, meanwhile, deal death upon the stragglers: THORNE, WINTRY, and WARPIG wreak havoc on the frontlines, tearing the unfortunate avians in their path asunder. In the back, the cumuloform fares no better, riddled in flame, venom, gunshot, its body singed and mangled and barely recognizable as a corpse, let alone its former self. Yet, even in this victory, the desperation of the enemy becomes a danger— who knows what a cornered animal is capable of?

Alaryck once again shields his comerades from harm, a burning beacon of hope against the dread omens hanging over the heads of CONQUEST and WINTRY. COOKIE, meanwhile, is once again shielded by her clever bit of magecraft— a shield, it seems, is never a bad thing to have.
Few remain, but one has crossed the threshold. Spelldivers, can you put this stampede to an end once and for all?

Both birds GALVANIZE, lightning crackling across their feather, stitching their broken skin back together and adding power back to their strides.
>Stratiform: 51 HP, 1 fire stack
>Cumuloform: 13 HP, 1 fire stack, 13 poison stacks.
If the cumuloform is killed but the stratiform is not, the latter, lacking offensive capabilities, may attempt to flee. Do be warned, though, attempts to delay may lead to reinforcements arriving. The end approaches, spelldivers— how shall you seize it?

(Never mind; it appears that the stratiform got obliterated by the cryonic depths of hell, and a well-placed bullet. Flavor text for last turn:)
Almost as soon as Cynthia finishes halfheartedly picking the coreshards out of one charred chicken, another one eagerly runs forward to take its place in the slaughterhouse hotseat. "Ah!" she shouts in surprise, half thinking that this is all just a dream, and half considering stepping back to unleash a spell upon it. Thankfully, the well-oiled kitchen staff are quick to render it into a well-seasoned steaming pile of meat-on-bone. With nothing better to do, Cynthia sighs and picks up where she left off, trying not to burn her fingers.

Truly, anyone who Cynthia had known prior to her joining the Dawnseekers would have been utterly scandalized to see a young lady like her stoop down to rummage around in the gore of a recently-slain animal, no less a vile spawn of the abyss. Perhaps she's getting carried away by the enthusiasm for looting shared by her comrades, or perhaps there is actually something interesting about examining the warped innards of a monster. Regardless, she is far more comfortable with the whole gristly process than she was when dealing with the stalagmice.
With the shards stashed away in her purse, the weariness from this lengthy mission finally takes its toll. Gracefully sitting down in the field grass, she rests her back against the wooden stakes of the palisade and lazily watches the last of the splendid carnage through the eyes of the ever-vigilant Ladybird.

Congratulations! Please select a FORM sigil
>Weirdweb: Medium runespace melee form sigil. Creates a web of mana on every unoccupied space adjacent to the caster. Once an enemy moves onto that space, they are targeted by the spell. Web tiles stay in place unless triggered, or until the caster moves.
>Trilink: high runespace iteration of the Chain sigil, increasing its chaining distance but limiting its output to 3 total targets
>Dual Palm: High runespace melee spell form that allows the caster to simultaneously target one ally (including themselves) and one enemy with a single cast

Congratulations! You gain the FORM sigil:
>Spellmine [Runespace: 1, 2d6+3, Range: 4, +4 PWR against enemies; Instead of casting directly, the user imbues their magic onto an unoccupied spot on the ground within range. Should the enemy tread on that tile, they become the target of the spell. For the sake of displacement effects, this tile is considered safe]
A devious trap used to release a devastating surprise attack against an enemy

NEW SIGILS
EFFECT
>Nettlefetter [Runespace: 2, PWR: 2; Upon successfully hitting an enemy with this spell, they become Fettered in place until the end of this round. If they opt move, they take damage equal to this spell’s PWR]
Crafts tendrils of mana laced with thorns and lethal intent. While they cannot harm directly, they bind a user in place, inflicting horrible agony upon any unfortunate enough to attempt an escape.
FORM
>Buckshot [Runespace: 3, 2d6, Range: 4, PWR: +3. Upon casting this spell, you are knocked backwards 2 spaces. If either of these spaces is occupied by a wall, enemy, or other impassable tile, your recoil movement ends and you take 2 damage per untravelled tile (maximum of 4)]
A lethal spell form with extraordinary power for a ranged sigil— and even more extraordinary recoil.
>Dual Palm [Runespace: 3, 2d5, Range: Melee, PWR: +2; User may target up to one enemy and up to one ally (including themselves) upon casting this spell. For the sake of enemy-ally specific interactions (e.g. Cthonic), each cast is considered separately. ]
You wreathe each hand with mana, splitting your magic into the elements that heal, and the elements that harm.
>Flashstep [Runespace: 3, 1d8+1, Range: 3; User moves a number of tiles equal to this spell’s range, targeting all enemies they pass through with this spell’s effects. Regardless of this spell’s range, it is considered a MELEE attack. LONGSHOT INTERACTION: You may take Longshot with this spell, but you must forgo the ACC bonus] [ELEMENT: LIGHTNING]
You become a living lightning bolt, tearing through enemies and helping your allies with frightening celerity.
>Gestaltoss [Runespace 2, 2d4+3, Range: 3; Upon casting this spell, one bullet follows one of the 10 acceptable trajectories, while the other follows a parallel and adjacent one. Both bullets may hit a single target of sufficient size.]
A sigil crafted using trickshooters as reference, this form allows the user to cast their spells in two parallel trajectories at the cost of its range
MODIFIER
>Arcing [Runespace: 2; Upon hitting a target, this spell also may target one enemy (not ally) within 2 spaces with a -1 ACC penalty. May only activate once per cast.] [ELEMENT: LIGHTNING]
Primitive iteration of what would later become the Chain form, utilizing the natural properties of electricity to discharge this spell into a nearby enemy.

BALANCE ADJUSTMENTS
>FIRE STACKS (Positive): When your heiroshield is broken, immediately resolve positive fire, removing one stack and healing the appropriate amount. This can happen any number of times per turn. Even when this occurs, any remaining fire stacks still resolve as normal at the end of the round
>Ricochet: [Runespace: 1, 2d6, Range: 8; Upon hitting an impassable (black) tile, this spell ricochets off of it, changing trajectory at the discretion of the caster, in any of the 8 straight trajectories which are not obstructed by impassable tiles, including the direction from which the spell was cast. This spell gains 1 ACC (max of +3) for each ricochet.]

You all find yourself back at the Silverharp, met with a warm welcome and a free round of drinks. Words of your exploits: your perilous journeys, your heroic deeds, and your great feats of might, courage, and mastery have begun to spread. Of course, most places do not know you quite that well— after all, this tavern is your home base, the place where not only your own drunken tales pour loose with ale and merriment, but where others directly aided by your guild happily sing your praises. Still, it makes it all feel worth it, even if some of you are schlepping in with bruises and scars for your troubles.
Before, however, you begin to down your free liquor, a middle aged clad in black-hemmed yellow sanbenito and a dark, austere cap greets you all at your table, clearly aware of your habits and waiting for you to arrive. He lifts his hands, a manufactured smile on his lips as if to tell you he comes in peace. Still, it’s hard not to be anxious— after all, this is a member of Benvatio’s intelligence organization.
“I have come not to investigate you,” he announces, reaching for something in his coat, “but rather, to give our thanks. Very few seem to want to do the dirty work anymore— even with our pay, they would rather chase glory or secrets. Some beasts amok in a small village? Those who have the might lack the perspective, and those who want to help lack the power. You, my friends, are a perfect mix.”
He places the envelope on the table, leaving it for you to discuss.
“A reward, my friends. Choose well, for there will be no adjustments.”
As silently as a ghost, the man walks out into the night.
Please select from the following benefits. Do note that these may return as you gain more REP with Benvatio’s government:
>Expedited liquor license [Silverharp’s Philtreliquor License will be approved immediately, at a discounted total fee of 400 Coreshards]

Jorogumo is already at the bar when the others arrive, fine and fresh and in new clothes and snacking delicately on a plateful of roasted nuts.
"In times past, in times of cabbages and kings and a great deal many other things, the sages and their lackeys fought their struggles in the shadows to determine whose image the post-mortal world will be cast in. It is no different today, with these 'corporations.' Let us partake in the fruits of others' labor."

A bloodstained CONQUEST stumbles into the bar, still riding from the high of another successful battle. There's no doubt that she could've changed her outfit. She was given more than enough time to notice the stench of iron and rot hanging around her thanks to the battle she fought. Perhaps she sees no point in washing it off when it's all just going to be stained in blood again.
She'll inevitably change into something fresh, when one of her fellow comrades presses the point enough. But until then, she's going to enjoy the high she's on.

"Restrictions. Bans. They serve no purpose other than to limit a soldier's repertoire." Conquest throws her head back as she lets out a seedy-sounding chuckle. "Why should we bother with such trivial things? If a tool exists, and it can be used to subjugate those who stand in your way...should we not use it?"
"We can always purchase the license with our own funds. Do not blind yourselves to cheap, simple shortcuts."

As silence falls upon the meadow, the thrill of combat has passed, and with it any motivation for Parsley to remain upright. Sort of like >>6424686, but with less blood and decorum and not nearly as artistically rendered. They're going to have to bring him home in a cart, or maybe just leave him there until he defrosts. Back at the Silverharp one way or another, Parsley is still warming up under several blankets, nursing a mug of hot cocoa. Shivering with both the lingering cold and childlike giddiness, he's not about to let feeling terrible stop his excitement at the prospect of CLASSIFIED RESEARCH. "Oooh, I do wonder if the government and the hierophants are of one mind with regards to what they keep to themselves. What double-edged marvels will we be made privy to? Hoohoo, it's almost enough to have me running about like one of those blasted birds..."
>>6425161
A barely begrudging toast is raised Alaryck's way before he departs. "Your work out there was invaluable, my good man. Stars know I'd never think of trying the same spell arrangement, the idea of purposely getting hit is frankly abominable to my good senses."

>>6425146
Later, at the Silverharp, fully refreshed and having rid of the lightning-caused pinprick ache in his joints, Lansa considers the government man's offers.
He is well-informed of liquor's many dangers, but his friends in the Dawnseekers might tell him otherwise; and money is not really what he's after. No, he would rather have knowledge, and the third option is also highly desirable by many of his teammates.

Thorne enters after stabling Hades with a nice bag of oats, a bath, and a brushdown. He smells like herbal soap and fresh linens. He gives a light grumble about how nothing smells as bad to him as dead poultry beasts and their innards.
"Cursed weapons make for a good 'story', but don't underestimate how much trouble they are outside of a good scrape." Thorne nods to himself. "Imagine if you had a talking cat in your ear constantly begging for treats, but those treats were violence and suffering. It would be enough to drive men mad."
He pours himself a drink into his snake adorned drinking horn. "What was it that finally broke that heretic band of Spelldivers we struck down. Who can say for sure but the higher ups in the Hierophants, who haven't deigned to tell us in detail..."
"Besides that, weren't these sigil makers already trying to sell us those 'Sin' sigils without this classified access?"
