Does forcing people to watch ads actually increase sales? Or is it just companies throwing money for the sadistic enjoyment of making your day worse?

I fell for the Dubai chocolate meme.

Most ads aren't actually designed to make you want to immediately go out and buy the product. They're designed just to get the brand name of the product in your head so that you unconsciously associate that brand name with that product.
