28, I just work and gym. decided fuck it, finally book that trip to japan. I go in a few months. its a half group tour, half 'go on our own' type of thing, since my Japanese isn't 100% fluent.

anyone been? anything I should keep an eye out for ? Hoping to find some cool cds

im about 6'2 / 184cm, and an old friend years and years ago said "if you ever go, you're gonna be famous! they'll all want to take pictures with you!" not sure how I feel about that.

Oh bro, i'm going this November too. My second trip
>its a half group tour
A few of my friends went on something similar and said the group stuff was like watching Japan on TV, they barely even saw japanese people, that's how touristy the places were. I'd advise being ready to ditch.
>my Japanese isn't 100% fluent.
Not a problem in the big cities, locals keep phones with translator apps handy, all of the official signs are also in English.
>anything I should keep an eye out for ?
Black men are exclusively employed as scammers
>Hoping to find some cool cds
Not my forte
>im about 6'2 / 184cm
184 = 6 feet. By your math 192 would be like 6'6, but it's actually 6'4
>you're gonna be famous
Depending on how you act locals might be afraid of you. If you go to some bumfuck nowhere then yeah they might be somewhat interested, this isn't the 90s anymore Japan is one of the hottest tourist destinations.

Depending on how long you're staying odds are you're just going to hit the main sights in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka. You can try to not railroad yourself into that and get a different experience. But that's very much the opposite of the group tour stuff.
For me, Japan is the best trip i've ever had. I was actually somewhat worried that i would not like it the first time, but it ended up being amazing. Not just weeb/vidya stuff either, people are kind and wonderful down to the smallest interactions.
I'm sure you'll love it, godspeed Anon.

I have been to Japan 3 times. Once by myself and the other two with a friend or family member. You can get by in major cities without any Japanese.

Definitely try new food, go to arcades, and check out anything else you are interested in.

apprecaite the info. even here in the USA I try to be military-style polite and respectful, its just how I am. I hope that translates well when I'm there too.

and for my own sake, I do want to fully commit and learn a second language. I just think its fascinating.
