If you need to know them, they'll become known unknowns. If you don't, they don't matter, and they don't exist.

When you find them you know them and now they're unknowns knowns.

Look into known unknowns, using known knowns to investigate. Eventually the unknown unknowns will come out and become known unknowns which you can hopefully investigate via known knowns at a later date so they, to, may become known knowns.

You continue data collection and theory refinement to look for unexpected anomalies or behavior. Really just that. You prepare for and plan for what you expect, have a safety margin that is calculated and observe as many data points as possible to detect something unknown.
