>contraindicated with a history of drug abuse
>ADHD is highly correlated with drug abuse
>stimulant treatment for ADHD patients reduce the potential for drug abuse
>treating ADHD-induced drug abuse is contraindicated with itself
why is psychiatry like this?

clarifying it can make it worse for some people of course, but a lot of my life was thrown away because of this bullshit contraindication. it's simply way too overused for what its worth. i have a friend who ended up getting his medication from street markets just to pass his college because his doctors switched and suddenly went retarded

ADHD "meds" make people prone to addiction issues because the "meds" have addiction-forming properties so people who took the "meds" are more naturally inclined to abuse any kind of drug, not just amphetamines or other methylphenidate derivates. This happens because long-term use of ADHD "meds" actually causes brain damage which manifests itself variously, e.g. in form of affective disorders or low-level dystonia. Drug abuse has been falsely propagated since the '80s as things "caused by ADHD" despite the treatment being primarily responsible for it in the first place.
You see a similar pattern with schizophrenia patients smoking all the time because they find nicotin helpful in combatting akathisia and tremors caused by anti-psychotics.
Psychiatry obviously doesn't mention the connection because psychiatric organizations are pretty much subsidiaries of the pharmaceutical industry which have captured all the relevant organizations and institutions.

Boredom and disorganized thinking make kids more likely to experiment with drugs. In ADHD patients, stimulant therapy reduces both of those conditions, ergo less likely to experiment.
It's a completely different scenario when the ADHD patient has already abused drugs as the window of opportunity to prevent drug experimentation has already closed (and they are likely aware the medication could be abused as well).

pre-ADHD meds I used drugs to self manage (weed, coffee, nicotine)
post-ADHD meds I am tempted to do less weed but more nicotine and coffee
it’s fucked up but it’s something about our brains to feel calm enough to focus or else it’s just pure chaos for no reason to get anything productive done
