>FGLS starts selling Beyblades and holding tournaments
>Appears to be the degeneracy of deckbuilding tcg metas and fighting game thuggery but looks like fun
>Google leads me to this breakdown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OUlVBByiok
>Old beys based on a traditional japanese 1700's basetime turned into plastic tops in the 90's
>Poorly designed and boring to play with, tries three revamps that dont last
>Decide fuck it and go in newdirection with Beyblade X sold as "Gear Sports" targeting all ages
>Beys are now a blade, a ratched and a bit with gears on, these are mixed and matched to make a custom blade with arenas having gear teeth that make contact with the bit and actually increase their speed to make fights faster, more violent and requires a plastic cover over the stadium
>Game is played with a 'deck' of three beys all using unique parts with the most overpowered meta ones giving the opponents a handicap
>Get points for stopping, breaking apart or knocking out for a cumulative best of three
>Buy 5 cheap beys and a stadium and friends who played it as a kid all jump in
>Talking about metashit like building Magic decks
>Having fun collecting Beys that are sold like structure decks or blind boosters
>FLGS always has a table at the back out the way with two stadiums on the tabletop at all times

But is it /tg/?

I want to see someone try to argue that it's actually a sport.
That seems like a take modern /tg/ would have.
>>
>>97871933
I think its just too neckbeardy. Like its sold at the stores that sell trading cards and warhammer not the one that sells sneakers and footballs y'know?
>>
>>97871837
The Xbeys are far easier to put together then the burst ones I have. I used to collect them as a child10-15 years ago but I don't remember how those older ones were comparatively.
>Is it /tg/
Sure
>>
>>97871837
I'm actually surprised that it took this long for someone to ask. Beyblades have always been /tg/, but it's a damned shame that it took 20 fucking years for them to start seriously supporting events and tournaments with players that weren't limited to 12 and under.
>>
>>97871837
Oh fuck off with your self promotion, stupid ass youtube shitter.
>>
>>97871837
I think so, and had a bit of fun with them as a kid.
No options for me to play as a adult though. Not because "too old" but because no local game stores or game clubs related to that kind of thing in my area.
Still, more power to you if it's something you enjoy and have people to play with.
>>
>>97872870
Do you think every link is a self promotion? like people watch stuff then take it to the grave like a dark family secret nobody must know about?
>>
>>97871837
It is /tg/ but because of the collecting aspect and being sold by toy stores, it ended up under the /toy/ jurisdiction. It is an invalid argument tho, since the same argument can be made for many wargames and board games. Personally,
I greatly enjoy Beyblade X despite having no local scene and I find it ridiculous and heart-warming at the same time that whenever my friends come by to play TCGs or RPGs, we start with a few rounds of launching Beys to decompress.
We often do it with my wife as well whenever one of us has an annoyingly hard day at work. There is something pure and cathartic about it, it's hard to explain.
>>
>>97871837
Had no idea these existed, despite being into burst enough to recognize beys on sight.
Are these actually fun, or are they just Metal all over again? Best shit about Burst was all the wacky gimmicks like rubber edges, extendable blades, or motorized drivers.
>>
>>97874246
X gen is extremely fun. Thanks to the gears being installed in the arena and present on beys' bits, you don't really and up with slog and boring stamina battles even when playing stamina vs stamina.

just got Bahamut Blitz and Knight Fortress. I like the idea of the blade being multiple pieces you can flip or turn clockwise so they have more or less points of contact.
>>
>>97873964
I was surprised to see how quickly people got pretty serious about beyblade X, but by the time i started hearing about stores putting together local scenes and tournaments and stuff, I was so out of the loop that people had already started doing the scalper/collector thing where some models disappeared off the market and now exclusively get scalped online for hundreds of dollars.
>>
>>97874246
X is no shit the best generation yet. Its the fastest, most high contact the game as ever been, keeps the burst idea though its far less common so its more of a pop off rather than an interruption and Hasbro has not been fucking with the beys like in Metal era. These are the Takara Tomy designs intended to hurt your fingers if you try to stop it spinning if your hand.

I bought a stadium and a few boosters and took it round to a friends and at first people laughed and thought it was silly till they saw just how fucking fast these things go and the impact of the collisions and quickly joined in and now all bought their own. If a combination of cock fighting, fgc thuggery, yugioh owning your cringe and keeping the spirit of beigomas alive i highly recommend Beyblade X specifically.

Just dont buy any from china they are fakes full of lead.
>>
>>97874246
They are about to introduce a beyblade that in the match splits into a beyblade and its beyblade stand. Shits bonkers.
>>
>>97875603
Yeah i got into it knowing fuck all since the original anime season era and bought some from a local toy store and playing at my FLGS a group of neckbeards went "WHAT THE FUCK THIS GUY HAS TIDE WHALE??" and they explained its not quite as bad as Pokemon card scalping but new Beys might have a single bit out of the 3 parts thats super meta and even if the whole Bey might be mid they will go nuts chasing it down for a single piece for other combos in their decks. I told them the shop in the old strip mall a few blocks down had them and they took off running and the store ran out of its Tide Whale stock in a day apparently.
>>
>>97875667
That's the exact sort of shit I can't abide by. I want to play the funny top game with some chill dudes, not engage in sweatlord meta-chasing bullshit.
>>
>>97875872
Thankfully my friends have never even known about metas in anything so they just go "check this out, this ones a honeycomb bee themed bey!" and build based on feel. Like i got Tide Whale because i like its theme i had no idea its Bit was super popular in the meta. Its tall and top heavy and rocks like a whale cresting to slam down from above. Is it the most competitive? no but i love it.

Shame Ghost Circle feels kind of crappy to me.

yes this is /tg/

Are you an ESL?

are you?
>>
>>97875642
Oh cool, that looks like a much more sensible way of doing it than the goofy hopping one from burst
>>
>>97876554
No.
>>
>>97875872
Like with every other game, you can decide that flavour is more important than meta and still hold your ground. I refuse to disassemble my Emps and play it out of the box in every match. Love my waffle girl like you wouldn't believe.
>>
FYI kids if you look at the beginner packs do NOT get Viking Helmet it might be the worst Bey that exists.

Man im a sucker for bee themed stuff, is it still easy to get or a rare chase bey?
>>
>>97879961
I have seen it on amazon for 10 eurobucks just a week ago. Scalping is really a local thing from my experience, I had no problem with finding any of the Hasbro's release Bays in Europe.
>>
>>97879971
got it for 11 brexit bux, but i know Tide Whale was constantly out of stock on amazon for its rare bit.

>You will never let it rip with a sassy maid
bros...
>>
>>97871837
Man, I remember the first time this came around.
Me and my little bro had loads of 'em.
My first one was the transparent plastic one from the first set "Gekiryu-oh" or something.
As is the way with transparent plastic, it was more brittle than the standard, as we discovered one day when my lil bro's OG Draciel shattered it's attack ring.

They were banned from our school because kids were launching them at each other.

There was also a scandal back then about the chinese knockoffs being made with lead and small chips getting in peoples eyes or mouths.

But good news they remade the og's for X and they aren't super expensive premium shit.
>>
>>97880080
Oh man, the chinese knockoff ones we had were beasty.
The weight-disc analogues were heavy as fuck so yeah, maybe ours were lead too.
One knockoff my brother had would spin for fuckin' ever.
>>
>>97880107
I'm pretty sure there was a moral panic about lead in toys in america purely because chinese beys caused a kid to get brain damage from the lead in them and it lead to a bunch of rules changes to make toys safer.

Until a recent regime decided that was woke and now we have asbestos labubus, so i would not recommend ever buying a bey from china even if the legit ones are huge in hong kong right now.
>>
>>97880124
Oh we used to get the knockoff ones from the Paki shop on the corner.
>Asbestos Labubu
Only good things can come of this.
>>
>>97876483
Stupid phat burger being proud of only speaking the language of their overlords they supposedly kicked out a few hundred years ago. Atleast say you speak American, anon
>>
>>97880260
Surely there is a beyblade thats an actual burger.
>>
>>97880269
I FUCKIN' KNEW IT

I played from a kid with plastic gen to metal as a teen and recently bought into X. I own basically everything but never played anyone else. Ive seen videos of events and would feel weird as a almost 40 year old getting paired vs someones kid or autistic 20-something. All these events are highly filmed it seems as well for score tracking and social media points.
>>
>>97880381
Remember, old son, a cringe is just a fear reflex.
You go bey them blades.
Being the oldest fucker in the tournament gives you instant dark horse status.
>>
>>97880381
You can be the unc calling gear chips bit beasts, someone has to be.

Also X is specifically marketed to everything from children to actual elderly people since its origins in Beigoma go back centuries.
>>
Wow, I did not know these things still existed. Much less that people seem to be playing this stuff weekly in my area.
Alright, my interest is piqued. Should I get into this? If I did, what would be the best way to jump into it?

>OP
definitely /tg/
>>
>>97880453
>>97880393
Ive been annoyed since meta that bit-beasts just became logos. I like that they sort of resemble monsters in X but its sad compared to plastic gen.
I dont really understand the point system either.
I did buy a coco orochi and red pegasus because disposable income and they are pretty.
>>
>>97880381
Ngl sounds like skill issue fr fr no cap. Jokes aside, every competitive tabletop event is like this, no matter the game. My friend started to bring his 12yo son to MtG events and nothing weird ever happened.
>>
>>97880616
>Should I get into this?
Absolutely.
>If I did, what would be the best way to jump into it?
No such a thing as bad way but it really depends on your budget and what you want to buy. Do you want to play at home but you don't live in Nippon? Get yourself a 2-player set with Hasbro stadium. It's more narrow than Takara Tomy one but some people actually prefer it over the standard-sized one because it forces even more contact between bays.
>>
>>97880687
>Takara Tomy
Are they worth the price over the Hasbro beys?
>>
>>97881151
They are 100% the same, there is no quality difference between them. The only reason to buy TT over Hasbro is being too impatient to wait for the Hasbro release to keep up with TT releases.
>>
>>97871837
>that kid who shows up with a bootleg Beyblade
>weight ring as wide as a bicycle gear and three times as thick
>made of pure lead because China don't give a fuck
>breaks your official Beyblades on contact
>shrapnel ricochets across the room at blood-drawing speed
>monster Beyblade leaps off stadium in defiance of all laws of aviation
>rips through glass window onto pavement outside
>keeps spinning
Don't take it personally.
>>
>>97871837
if rolling bones is /tg/, so are beyblades.
also, thought the thread subject was an allusion to /xs/, so now i'm imagining what an /xtg/ board would be like.
>>
Took my new Knight Fortress to my locals today and man even without any modding that baseline bey is far more effective than that defensive design should be, my new goat.
>>
>>97880643
Points for play? or points for parts? the parts that have points are just parts dominating the meta and you give your opponent a free point because you are probably going to steamroll them unless bad rng flips or bursts your bey. You save those for your one motherfucker bey for round 2 or 3.
>>
>>97881151
The difference is simple:
>Takara is the designers so they put them out first and import usually ends up 10-15 more based on region and shipping but you get them before the players find out all the new metas and scalpers push a whole walmart shelf into a trolley to flip on ebay.
>Hasbro is a slower release but will also rerelease their own "original" beys that are usually rare or hard to find beys with a new paintjob. So sometimes a really good bey you dont want to pay out for also exists as a hasbro exclusive bey thats just like a stag or kraken instead of a dragon or lion on the gear chip.

I'm pretty interested in getting into Beyblade, but I'm not even sure where to find other people in my area to play against. Either way, I might pick up a Bey next time I'm at my LGS
>>
>>97883148
Beyblades attract other men like digging a large whole at the beach. Set up a stadium at your FLGS with a few beys and they WILL appear.

I can't believe that I am actually tempted to buy beyblade stuff. Truly the meme of "everything you thought was cool at age 12 is still cool" rings true here.
