Momir doesn't have a fucking meta. It's completely random. I've always dropped every turn possible because you're just as likely to drop a mana ramp as you are an ornithopter, and like you said if you wait you could be swamped behind useful useful weenies.

Usually blue is part of a control or tempo plan. Control wants to shut down opponents from winning the game, tempo wants to be efficient on the board and close out the game quickly while disrupting the opponent's impactful plays. 8 is the magic number for momir, it's where all the biggest impact hits are. The useful 1 drops are vastly outnumbered by chaff. I usually drop at 2, and skip 3 on the play.
