Somewhat related to the tq, but genuinely does anyone like a single character from wood elves? I dont think anyone even likes Orion, and the fairy bitch would genuinely be better off in that one rat fucks stomach. I dont even hate her because of her old model, I genuinely dont like the concept of her. The wild hunt also would be cool if it was just completely divorced from being tied to Orion too while im on my rant. Man what a fucking weird army.
Anyways to add to wood elves, Idk something interesting. Add some enslaved lizardmen or something to stand out there.

>Anyways to add to wood elves, Idk something interesting. Add some enslaved lizardmen or something to stand out there.
Yeah, what you want is Sylvaneth. You'd never admit it because it's icky AoS and not in the cool hype and aura video game, but that's what you want.

yeah it's like saying the Empire is controversial because of its imperialistic german themes and iron crosses being associated with the Nazis, medieval Russia has practically nothing to do with Putin's regime.

As a lover of ancient history and all things spooky, I've decided I want to start a Greco-Roman themed Tomb Kings army. I already have some VC I can lean into. Any anons got cool resources or suggestions? So far I'm thinking
Using my 6th ed Lahmia vamp as a Liche Priestess or Tomb Queen
Already have WGA skeletons
Maybe zombie or stone minotaurs as Ushabti
Potentially some Dark Elf stuff kitbashed for Medusa vibes. I feel like Harpies have some potential but not sure as what.
Dark Art Studios have Roman legion skellies I could use as Tomb Guard
Any more ideas?

I want his 4th Edition model. The current one looks like shit. My brother sold mine behind my back while I was living away.
And let's talk about how that shitty Woodeth army was literally ruled by a High Elves character GWE made to strip Wood Elves of their identity.
GW has only a favorite Elves faction when they are not busy having a hard-on for Archon, and they always show it.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97921554
You say strip I say enhance. It’s a proper fairy tale army. Personally I’d shave the human attributes of the faces away to make them faceless to completely solidify that aesthetic in a more flexible sense, but that’s me. but yeah gw does love their high elves.

I'm starting to really dislike WFRP 4E.
It's already quite bad that the books focus on downtime "Endeavours" to the point of filling out entire pages of filler with 1-2 paragraphs of actually useful content (basically cut down event tables), rather than help you run a proper game of any kind, but then they keep on shoving in tidbits like "If the Characters find the courage to assume a progressive stance, they can use their new platform to enact lasting, positive change".
The tone is all off and too little is of actual use.
Maybe I should just go back to 2E.

Conquest athanatoi/varangian guard dual kit for ushabti. I built these as Varangians, but you can have them with facemasks and without the fur cloaks. The old Dominion range from para bellum also had undead minotaurs, but those might get too big for whfb due to the wonky 38mm scale.

Empire lore feels like such an afterthought and it is literally 'everything happens in Altdorf and Nuln' and everywhere else gets nothing. Even then it still makes no sense because Altdorf has to have the college of engineering even though Nuln is the biggest engineering centre. It really wouldn't have killed them to spread things out, even the colleges of magic would have been cooler in Talabheim.

it also doesn't make much sense in retrospective because Altdorf wasnt't the capital until after the Great War and Magnus had no connection to the city so why would Teclis pick Altdorf for the colleges specially seeing as the Church of Sigmar doesn't like magic.
>>
>>97922497
That is pretty well explained in WFRP
1.) It's on a major leyline, so it's easier to train wizards on it
2.) If the collages went really badly, it would be far enough away from Magnus that he wouldn't be in either imminent danger or get his capital blown up
3.) The location close to the Sigmarite church is on purpos,e as it also allows them and the Witch Hunter to closely observe the collages for Chaos Corruption and Necromancy

Add for beastmen:
Core - Raven swarm ~40pts
M1 WS4 BS1 S2 T1 W5 I3 A5 Ld5
Flying(8), move through cover, scout, immune to psych, loner, skirmish, Fear, Unbreakable
Remove:
Regular chaos giant and chaos trolls. I don't think they are taken often enough to really matter which is why I put two, but they don't fit the theme of the army. At least the chaos spawns can be fluffed as just extremely fucked up beastmen.

What would everyone like their army to get that acts similar to the herdstone and Casket of Souls? A stationary object that does something for the army, whether its a unit like casket or terrain like herd.
As an example, a waystone for wood elves or Effigy of Gork and Mork kind of deal.

>>97922906
>betrayal
Can’t do that when the faction offers no promise to begin with, moment dark elves are introduced wood elves will literally never be touched up on again. Same case for tomb kings when vampire counts come back. You can keep making Settra and maybe even Arkhan relevant in tows timeline, hell you can even update the kits, people are still gonna fall out of them because vampire counts have that warhammer twist that makes them unique compared to something so utterly stagnant that are tomb kings.

>>
>>
>>
Wood Elves had many characters when they got their first codex back, when Undead were a single Army. Alarielle didn't even exist; she was introduced afterward because it was a sin that Wood Elves had something High Elves hadn't, and so they split Isha in two, and the High got one who literally dismantled chaos champions if the cme closer enough. They were the better eleves, back then. The High Elves who grew up out of all the shit that makes them closeted Dark Elves. But then GW decided to first turn them into crazy hillibillies because muh Grimdark and then let them rot until a High Elves character is now literally controlling the woods. I am fucking tired of Silvaneth. At least Lumineth has something looking like High Elves. I want wardancers, Elves with bows, not woods cosplaying as what my army was. One treeman was enough. For fuck sake the only good wardancer miniature GW ever sculpted was for Warhammer Quest back in 1995.

But they did have some good ones like the nobles and mages.
>>
>>97923369
Glad I'm not alone in hating the twig hobo shit. I would rather use the monopose archers than nu-Glade Guard, and the nu-Waywatchers and nu-Wardancers were a downgrade in every possible way over the old metals.
>>
I've been working towards a Mino Blood Herd army and was originally planning only 1 weapon type in each unit.
But it really looks like mixing is more effective but that leads to Motley Crew problems
I would give everyone shields so in theory I could have everyone fight with shields which negates a lot of the issue but
How does combat work if I attacked with 2x Great Weapons, 2x Hand?
I don't think adding a Character in the mix would change anything because GW did FAQ the different armor save thing out of the game.

That’s one of the best parts of the Fantasy community. If this were AoS or especially 40k, you wouldn’t even find the average casual player that would be ok with you using “ legends/legacy “ rules let alone a whole comp rewrite. I guess that comes with the territory of Fantasy players being older and having spent more time in the hobby. We realize when GW makes a mistake, which they do often, we don’t have to wait for them to fix it or even accept their fixes if they aren’t sensible.
Honestly the only thing I really need GW to do is to continue to sell the models for Fantasy, past that they aren’t all that necessary.
>>
>>97924252
dude SB and all legacy shit dies overnight the minute GW add those factions, and pretty much every community has done the same with patching shitty GW temp rules for squatted or pre-release armies barring the most tournament active like 40k. If the community really was how you describe they'd have never switched to TOW which was an obviously inferior ruleset at launch and stuck with 9th age, WAP or older editions.

I bet that at some point GW will divorce AOS from Fantasy/TOW so completely that they fundamentally retcon the End Times and just go back to the Storm of Chaos canon. Because literally nothing that happens in ET actually has to happen for AOS to happen outside of certain characters still being around for the end of the world. Which all of them are immortal anyway, so it could be 1000 years after Karl's death for all it matters.

I'm more interested in the Eonir and hope that ToW and WFRP will explore them further. Warhammer elves are interesting because they have a bit of edge to them not being humanity's nanies or punching bags, but its exactly for that reason that a more mild and seemingly friendly (or rather diplomatic) elf faction is interesting and should be available as allies to other factions fighting chaos, skaven and beastmen.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97924637
Outside of what they got in Archives of Empire vol. 1 and the Salzenmund books, I wouldn't expect much more for them in either WFRP or TOW.
The Wood Elf AJ seem to explicitly ignore them, even though it was set in Laurlorn forest.
>>
>>97924702
Since we got a high elf book and a dwarf book I kinda expect them to release a wood elf book focusing on eonir, but I might be huffing copium.
Would be cool if they made them playable in TWW3 with a new lord, focusing on diplomacy with the other factions to soak up enemy attacks for you while managing civil unrest between the three castes of people living in laurelorn.

C7 still need to release the core rulebook, Starter set, Marianburg and Wrecker point books for 5e before they announce anything else
I would expect some Eonir stuff in the Wreckers point book, since it about the North West Corner of the Empire, and the Eonir do have a port they trade with the Dark Elves there.
TWW is a game on its last legs. I wouldn't expect much after the End Times DLC if anything

Yeah, it's just called 5e, the Dark Elf book Temple of Spite is a 5e book in the copyright, not a 4e book and the statlines in that book reflect the updated rules, but it seems pretty convertible to 4e
So 5e is getting a new starter set, which is about Ostland apparently
>>
>>97924794
Well shit, guess I'm behind on the news. I heard they're going to be releasing a new corebook with the updated rules but didn't expect a new fullblown edition. It would suck if they changed too much and made converting 2e stuff harder, or worse invalidate 4e books they released recently.
>>
>>97924815
Every time they talk about 5e Cubicle 7 stresses how convertible it is to 4e and how they don't want to make people's books redundant.
Temple of Spite even references 4e books like the Dark Elf Cosair PDF or the HE player guide for use with Temple of Spite
found a YouTube channel of a guy trying to work out some of the changes for 5e from the statlines trait and ability change shown in Temple of Spire

Meh, I think it's a case of necessity. Say gw suddenly legendsed half the aos armies I imagine you'd see community rules pop up. See for example the community points of 2015 when gw was too retarded to add that themselves.
By the same account imagine if only one or two factions didn't come back to tow instead of like half (let's say lizardmen and daemons as an example), do you think the renegade rules would be as widely accepted as they? Necessity breeds this kind of community response imo. Not that I don't think tow's playerbase isn't on the whole more willing to sidestep gw than the mainline games are, but I think the difference is kind of overstated.

I know it's a meme and AoS moved on and apparently it's better now whatever but genuinely how the fuck does "Mortuary Factory" even mean? Isn't a Mortuary a building in the middle of a graveyard or some shit? How did someone a) even write that and b) someone not immediately notice what a stupid fucking name it was? I know AoS was rushed but surely at least someone glanced over the books before publication.
>>
>>
>>97924535
>>97925050
It would be as simple a retcon as
>Mannfred von Carstein was appalled by what he saw in his scrying orb; [insert gay ET ritual events here]. He cast it shattering across the ground. "This will not come to pass," he thought. "I shall see to that myself."
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97924535
How is it easier? Literally just, when they inevitably move the timeline for TOW back up to the reign of Karl Franz, re-establish Storm of Chaos as the story and then move forward from there. Archaon gets kicked in the dick by Grimgor, retreats north, and another major Chaos invasion doesn't happen til some indeterminate time in the future. World continues on.
>>
>>97925043
>I know AoS was rushed but surely at least someone glanced over the books before publication.
If they did they must've skipped the maps. I'm also pretty sure some gw artist said that at the time they didn't have shit to work with beyond the models, so they were told to just come up with stuff.
Anyway about the mortuary factory, I think it actually shows up in an early novel or something like that, it produces urns and shit like that.
>>
>>
>>97925257
Why would they do that? They aren’t even going to move the timeline forward past the chaos invasion of praag or whatever it was called for old world (brain blanks out on Kislev and chaos, please understand), we’d be lucky if we even get to that event in 10 years which is how long it took for HH to enter the scouring from the, well, the Horus heresy. Mixing in Cathay also gives them time to, well, focus on not the old world.
>>
>>97925296
I don't think it will happen relatively soon, but I'm certain it will happen eventually. TOW is moving at a snail's pace but eventually they'll run out of shit to talk about in the time between Magnus and Karl.

>Just like Poland the more you try to kill civilians it just reinforces nationhood.
That's only a comparison for the historically illiterate. Poland has existed since 966 AD. The idea of Poland as a state/people is older than than the vast majority of other European countries and nations. Ukraine meanwhile came into existence as a state in 1991 and the Ukrainian people didn't even consider themselves Ukrainian until the 19th century.

With the somewhat glaring caveat that the German militarism that would be associated with hasn't existed for 80 years whereas Putin is explicitly using 11th century east slavic history as a justification for his war.

I've thought that we could have a Chaos tribes in the Southlands that act like sub-Saharan African tribes led by witch doctors with big tribal masks and such. Doing something like Voodoo as a main worship/magic practice. Instead of being broad and hulking like the northerners, they'd be freakishly tall and strong like those really tall tribes in Sudan. Built kinda like the blue Monstar from Space Jam.
Hire cultural consultants and shit like they did for Cathay so we don't have a modern day Pygmy situation and I think it could be a really cool new way for Chaos to thrive in the south.
And ya also make Araby a fucking faction.

If I recall right, regular Warriors are just dudes from the hold mobilized to defend it. They would have the colors of the hold represented on their shields and banners. Armored Dwarves like those in the Hammerers/Longbeard kit and Ironbreakers/Irondrakes kit who are more elite, proper soldiers would have the hold’s colors on their armor, and it would be reasonable to have the Thanes personal colors represented if they were sworn to his service.

Mechanically 4E is mostly good and I prefer it to 2E, so I look forward to how they tweak the advantage and casting again I guess.
DEI-wise, random black folk in the Empire are a bit weird (at least one of the starter set character is specified to be a child of a traveling merchant IIRC, haven't read those backstories in a while) but that's easily ignored since me and my group just assume 99% of humans NPCs are white unless it's stated they traveled from a different continent. I haven't looked into the ToW RPG much, so most egregious DEI stuff I see is the uptick in female Bret knights in the ToW tabletop game (albeit they're not a new thing in lore, they just hid their gender before aside from Repanse).
Overall 2E is still perfectly functional, if you like it and have the books keep playing it. If you want to try out something new pirate the new edition and see if it's to your liking.
>>
>>97925482
I don't want any of those options. I want them to bring back old models and make new models in the style of those very same old models. Aesthetically, GW had something special going on from 1986-1997 and ever since then they've constantly strayed away from what made their models special.
I guarantee you that these rumored new chaos warriors and knights are going to stink because they're going to be get another pointless iteration on the 2004 design.

I don't disagree with the point on the minis, I think GW should bring back starters that are just a shit ton of simple but charming simple models (easy to assemble, paint and fill up on before you buy more detailed kits), but it's like you're trying to be a contrarian too hard.

Grail Knights, like spehs muhreens, are male ONLY, and that excludes even Repanse de Lyonesse, who is a Paladin KOTR. Women cannot become Grail Knights under any circumstances, and thus cannot become Questing Knights under any circumstances since they literally cannot ever sip from the Grail and thus would be excluded from the Questing Vow too. Women can become Knights Errant and full-fledged KOTR ONLY, and usually only if they hide their sex from their peers, though this is entirely because of Bretonnian social convention and not the Lady's decree, but to reiterate, a woman knight cannot ascend to Questing/Grail Knight status under any circumstances.

>>

Eh, that part was fine, it gave him impetus for his angst and a blood connection to both the norf and the Empire. The actual part where he falls made me drop the novel immediately. First he "sneaks" into the Grand Theogonist's presence while soaked in shit from the sewer (literally, I am not making this up, it describes Sigmarites smelling him and gagging and literally everyone is staring at him while he tries to blend in, but this is played 100% straight and edgy), then he wins a 1v100 as a normal mortal, then he tanks a cannonball to the face, then a bunch of Chaos Warriors with wings fly in to deus ex machima him out of Altdorf. Just totally fucking retarded even for Warhams. Pure insanity. Also, the part about Sigmar ignoring his prayers literally just made no sense and was just the author being a mental middle schooler atheist. If anything he should've been struck by lightning or some shit.

Maybe it's my German autism but those two names basically mean the same thing.
For towns in medieval Germany, belonging to a castle/burg, suffixes like "-stadt" "-dorf" "-weiler" "-markt" were more common.

My group wants to try some of the other, not-TOW editions. Which ones should we try? If it helps at all the factions we generally play are WoC, Empire, Skaven, Greenskins and Beastmen. Also keep in mind we're mostly retarded zoomers.

>>97927350
Yeah I know. But Folburg was already a canon town and I wanted to add a separate location called Castle Fol on the map.
My lore explanation is that Folburg came first and then centuries later Castle Fol was build, when language had shifted somewhat.
But thanks for pointing it out, my autism goes into overdrive too if I find stuff like that out after I've already printed it

You just got to make sure you get the charge, and you do that with sabretusks acting as annoying as fuck charge redirecters. Gnoblars are some of the best point for point objective/corner holders in the game.
Can you compete with the most broken tournament faggotry? No. But why would you want to play fags like that anyway

The one Gav Thorpe was rumoured to be writing?
I'm not sure that one is going ahead. But I think in interviews they did say they're planning another almost TEW-sized capsign that is meant to be going to the east, with the startet set adventure leading into it.
This artist also did a Bugman, Astrogoth and Ungrim artwork, so I don't really know what that means, but he plastered the C7 logo on, so it's official artwork that he was commissioned to make for Cubicle 7
>>
>>97928274
I think that one didn't get made but they're still doing a vaguely similar one, though I could also see them scrapping that and going East instead, with what they had for said adventure being reworked into the various Marienburg/Dark Elf books we've been getting.

So no camels or elephants, give them saurus riders (tauntaun looking reptile) and kobold (hyena looking creatures) slaves, djinn, elemental constructs, roc as flyers, keep the carpets but make it a wizard mount. Another straight up human faction would be boring

>arabs that are evil because under the yoke of an evil sorcerer/djinn
Is the canon reason behind their conquest of Estalia and the resulting Reconquista-Crusades that created the BPs. Some Arabyans are not evil and are benevolent, like Al-Muktar's Desert Dogs and Suliman le Saracen, they seem to represent "default" Araby without the influence of an evil ruler or Chaos.
>arabs that are evil because they're greedy merchants/enslavers
This is what we got in the form of Jafar and Mydas the Mean.
>arabs that are evil because they joined or are under the forces of chaos

>arabs that are evil merely out of necessity to survive
This we've not seen any of yet but could easily happen.

I think they should rewrite Araby to be more like pre ww1 and ww1 style nomadic raiders but with worse tech. Have their society be structured around tribes and raiding to survive. Also integrate blood feuds heavily into their culture. It would be cool to see a human faction that isn’t civilized in the traditional sense, but is always on the move.

checklist for making Cathay interesting:
1. Only one dragon, the Emperor, who doesn't have a human form.
2. The people have to appease him by sending maidens to a forbidden palace.
3. They don't dare anger him by having men deflower the maidens at the palace so only eunuchs are allowed in the palace
4. Eunuchs are callous detached chuds who de facto rule in the emperor's stead and cause mayhem, even harbouring a tzeentchian cult.
5. Great Bastion barely held together by a few heroic competent generals who have to negotiate court politics and try to avoid assassins (the many schools of assassins that inspired Eshin).
6. Cathayan magic is soul-based similar to the TK but they rip the souls out of living peasants for their magic, this leaves behind a jiangshi zombie.

I just don't particularly give a shit about fantasy China. It honestly doesn't feel like it occupies the same world as the Empire, Ulthuan, or Lustria. Too much magic just willy nilly everywhere. Same with Kislev where everything is enchanted with ice magic.
>>
>>
>>97929726
>Sad, what would you do to make them exciting?
Not quoted but honestly i'd just steal heavily from chinese webnovels.
The emperor is either a great schemer and is therefore acting as if he's dying/uncaring/malevolent but is actually doing something big and cool.
Or perhaps he, or the power behind the throne, genuinely doesn't care beyond the grain flowing upward, having enough soldiers and "luck" or "incense" or similar more abstract power from the provinces and therefore lets local governors, and petty warlord generals, get away with a lot in their corners of the empire so long as they see to that, which also lets you make those places more unique and have their own soldier heraldry, peasantry etc cause the imperial rule is really decentralized. (and if they start getting too powerful they'll probably be 'promoted' to a position in the capital where they can't order around their troops, this would also lead to rebellions)
For wizards i'd use lesser 'cultivator' mortal type stuff like pill alchemists, talisman makers, gu cultivators with poisonous bugs etc. Either serving the empire or 'mercenary' types.
Maybe add in a bit of lore about distinct sects, but probably keep it simple. In many webnovels they're just self-interest factions building power, not even necessarily about immortal cultivation, only some are ascetic and outside the imperial power structures.
Similarly Jianghu thugs for the wuxia feel with a bit of warhammer grit to them, anything from regular criminal robbers to lone swordsmen.
Add-in demons (wether corrupted by chaos or 'spirits') based off their myths based off like chiyou or various monsters derived from their myths and legends, of which there are frankly entire books about. Stuff like Nuwa, modern ones like White Snake, the Monkey King etc and more rad old Citadel weirdo type monsters from the Classic of Mountains and Seas. (like a snake with a dozen human heads)
Pepper liberally with chaos influence as desired.

I want to give my PCs a very hotly contested package. What kind of artifact or doodad would be if interest to a Temple of Sigmar, (wood) elves, and skaven?
I was thinking a warrior priests' relic gorget with magic resistance granted by having elven crystals worked into it and the skaven and elves both want it to rip the crystals out. My knowledge of elves is pretty limited though.

So you might as well. It can only get worse.

A little bit of column A, a little bit of column B. Use traditional symbols sometimes, come up with your own designs when you feel like it, just remember to have fun with it. Any excuse to freehand something is a good excuse.

>GW releases really cool uniforms and heraldry books
>Only does the Empire, Skaven, and High Elves
Is this another instance of GW dropping something before it was done, like Thrones of Chaos, or did they just not do anything else with it? At a minimum they could have also done Dark Elves. Vampire Counts would have gone hard.

They're all good. I'm very partial to 8th, as it's the most interactive edition (and I've got a small but awesome group of laid back opponents)
but 6th and 7th are also good.
Warhammer reinassance is a most elegant rendition of 4th and 5th combined
And 3rd edition is just old school wacky fun

I think the most popular alternative is playing 7th with 6th edition army books and a house rule that you need four and not five models to get a rank bonus.

I'd probably agree but there's a lot of mixed messaging in the rumour community, similar to the Cathay launch, that suggests no one really knows anything concrete. Logically you'd think GW would want to use Kislev for a new edition launch but everyone swears there's no edition till 2028. Q1 2027 is probably the earliest they'd launch a new edition, even though it's actually quite a bad time to do it, which shows how little confidence they had in TOW at launch.

As >>97931219 puts it, a bit of a mix. For my DoW I've taken the red and white stripes and roundel in the centre as a base, and then add whatever icon I feel like goes with the unit.
If I add dwarfs to them, I may he tempted to mix traditional dwarven icons with "tilean" ones to reflect some dwarven clan thats settled in Pavona (since the city does have trade along the dwarf road, iirc)

Kislev is lame. Cathay is cool.

I love the cathay models and designs, but I'll admit, I've been painting warhammer for 20 years and these guys are a pain in the ass to paint. So many overlapping layered fabrics and sashes and trim. Just getting through my battalion has been a task
>>
>>
>>
>>97932449
they're not impossible, just a ton of work, and in particular stuff like the rolled fabric around the waist with a leather belt over top of it, those sections are so thin with separate materials so close together that its very difficult to paint them without 3 cleanup passes.
the cowels also make the faces difficult to reach, and the helmet tassles can often sit very close to the armor on their back which can create a situation where its hard to paint one surface without the other side of the brush touching the other.
in general i will say they are very well done models, but its definitely an army you only want to collect if its going to be a labor of love, because these are certainly a tier above things like dwarfs and chaos warriors in terms of effort required. i think the end result is worth the effort, but if someone is the type of painter to get burnt out doing details, this is not the army for them.

I painted the batallion and shugengan lord in like 5 hours with speedpaints andsold them, it's literally all cloth and leather, it's not difficult.
>>
>>
>>97932482
i'll take things that didnt happen for $200
the battalion is 50 models including the artillery crew. at 5 hours thats 6 minutes per figure.
i've painted models quickly, but 6 minutes per model? you have at least 6 different colors on the infantry plus transfers, basing and tufts, all in 6 minutes?

>>97931149
Ma'am this is New GW we are talking about. If you don't want 7/10 of the ice queens bodyguards to have cornrows (same percentage of the normal horse archers and infantry) you have come to the wrong company

it was probably more like 7 hours being honest; did it in one day though, but yeah it's literally 7 or so colours so an hour to production line each colour. I'm not counting the basing which I usually do in the evening so it sets for next day but we did only say painting. Point is that the models aren't that hard to knock out, you could spend a lot more time on other armies.
>>97932644
I'm not a commission painter but painting is as hard as you want to make it especially now with so many options. It's fags like the other guy saying 'it looks speedpainted' that lead to people giving up and pushing grey hordes around. Keep it simple and ignore YT bullshit vids, do everything you can to cut down on time and at the end of the day it is the cohesive scheme that makes the army.
