Do people here play something that's not a dungeon crawler or an endless battle simulator?

Yeah it's called REAL LIFE buddy!

I play 3.5 where my party spends most of the time in taverns or haggling for goods as we travel as a merchant caravan.

Sure, my group tends to have fights maybe every other session, because players keep solving problems by doing weird shit like talking to NPCs instead of fighting them.

I have an irregular VtM game that my table plays. To tell you the truth, we play our Spelljammer campaign way more often, and the VtM group has 2 different members than the D&D game. But every now and then we get into VtM, which is all ab out politics, social networking, mysteries and sleuthing. It hardly ever has combat, which has made the combat more fun. They'll spend an entire session planning things out before they attack the Tong stronghold in Chinatown.

Yes. I have played for over 20 years and I have never played either of those things even once. And neither have most of the people in my groups.

Not infrequently we'd have no combat at all in a session unless we decided to go looking for trouble.
Depends on where you are and what you're doing; six weeks hacking through savage jungle is different to a stopover in a bustling port town.
However, we were on a time limited Hexcrawl, so we were incentivised to go to dangerous places and do dangerous things in them.

How much of your average gameplay session is expend in combat or exploration?

Depends on the game. If it's 5e, which my players keep telling me they wanna play? Easily half of the session is combat. It's so fucking sloggy.

Most people on this board hate either one or both of those, so maybe take a look at the catalog before making a thread.
You do know what the catalog is, right?

Life is an endless battle though.

Not for some people.
>>
>>97923001
90%
And we like it that way because combat is fun. I understand most people don't like the system they're playing tho so I understand why they think combat is a slog when it gets too long.

Run the game you want, and tell them it's homebrewed D&D 5e.
>>
>>97923195
Eh. It's only a minor annoyance to me. I don't mind 5e. It's not my fave but it's fine.

So what was the point of making this thread?

Have you consider you may not be talking to OP?
>>
>>97923441
Have you considered the numerous reasons why it's perfectly reasonable why I thought I was?

Well, you were wrong.

I'm not OP. I'm not >>97923441, either. I'm >>97923253, and I didn't make this thread, anon.
>>
>>97923515
So what, you want a fucking medal, or what?
>>
>>97923555
You're weirdly hostile, anon. I responded civily to a question about much gameplay was spent in combat, someone suggested I run a different game and pretend it's a homebrew 5e, I said I didn't mind 5e, you mistook me for OP, and I said I wasn't.

What is it you're so hostile about? We were having a civil conversation, up until you just now freaked out at me.

>We were having a civil conversation
No we weren't, because I'm neither OP nor the Anon you replied to.
Get over it faggot.

ok, but why tho

I don't like combat. At least it should be a single roll and not stand in the way.
