I can remember shit pretty well if I put my mind to it, but I also have an uncanny ability to delude myself and I'm so confident in my interpretation of the rules the others start to believe it too

Bring index cards with your turn's sequence of events and a paperclip or book page marker to move as you go through them.
Use flash cards (usually also the index cards) to summarize items and terms you need to know.
You don't need an eidactic memory if you keep the relevant info close at hand. Treat it like a test where cheating is encouraged as long as you get the right answer quickly

using pen and paper is preferable but you can also type it up on a PC
no using screenshots or copy/pasting though
no AI obviously

the final result is not the cheat sheet itself (that's a bonus)
it's the work your brain does to process the rules and condense them to a cheatsheet format

Last time i had to learn a system (as GM) I wrote out about four pages of notes. Basically

had same "problem" yesterday during a blood bowl LRB06 game, in the end we just checked the rulebook yeah we slow the play down but at least we know we're playing right. We can't remember every rule maybe we don't play for months (in my case was that) so we forgot some of even the basic rules.

Skim read for general rules and concepts, as well as understanding the layout of the book. Full read to pick up anything I missed and further reinforce rules understand. Second skim read to go back through and note the location of important rules, and also to record a cheat sheet like >>97932445 mentioned.

Taking the time to go through and write down the rules and asking yourself to reword them and commit your understanding of them to paper will help to improve your information retention. You can try to challenge yourself to fit everything on one page, but really the goal is to cement the ideas in your brain by reading them, rewording them, and recording them.

Visualize what you are reading. Use all your senses. Imagine the warmth radiating off of the ogre's taint. Get as many neurons involved as you can. If you grew up with screens you probably do have brainrot though. It is by experiencing life that we form the underlying network of connected memories from which inspiration is drawn.
