How is this for a 1k list? Are the plaguebearers redundant with rotswords already? Do I replace them with the pox walkers cause honestly I brought them to go with their wizard hero but I can swap out the wizard daemon for a the human rotbringer sorcerer.
Is the Nurgles menagerie formation fun? I have 3 flies and a lord of afflictions already but I wouldn’t mind getting a Maggoth rider, a Festus and some more knights. Is Crit 2hits on all companion weapons impactful or is the damage and rend too weak to matter?

In my experience playing into them rotors are still threats while plauge bearers are less but are still annoying. Not sure how they would feel in a 1000 point format. Also I’ve only ever seen belga for a foot sorcerer or foul hoof but I’d have to guess those guys can be toxic in that point bracket.

Why would they release an Underworlds gang focused on the Bonesplitterz if the faction was going to be eliminated, or were there plans to revamp it but ultimately didn't?

yeah proacryl for sure, its pretty much the best out there if you can find it. i know proacryl stuff can be a bit tricky to find though because i guess they use a direct manufacturer to vendor contract model with stores and dont have a distributor middleman so it can be hard for stores to get started with them
not sure if thats changed in the last year or two, but thats what my FLGS owner was explaining to me when he finally got them in, but thats also part of why their cost is so low

I have models and dice and measuring tape. What else do I need to start playing big AoS?
I know the battle tome is not much more than a 60 usd paperweight.
Are the cards worth buying or can I screen cap wahapedia and print them? Am I forgetting something? Is there a quick rules reference for turns and sequences that I can follow? Like a flow chart or something that’s handy and to the point and won’t take time to flip through?
The benefit of using my Phone is that I can control+F to find things in the rules. How do you guys reference or search rules mid game? Is there anything actually worth playing for? Do the battle scroll cards stay relevant or do stat lines get changed too much for that? Do I make a binder or have an index card ring or something?

talking about the armor plates i assume? yeah give proacryl ivory or bright ivory a try, that looks to be about in that ballpark. probably with earthshade over top of it, or a thinned 50/50 earthshade/clear medium (dont use water to thin shades, it makes them coffee stain much worse)

The early warbands came from the manipulation of existing assets. Bonesplitterz were one of the first armies released for AoS so it's safe to say it originates from this earlier phase and was pushed back due to the homogeneity of orcs. Ironskullz came out first in the first wave, Bonesplitterz second.
GW work well in advance of production and delivery is well beyond that too. Rumours suggest they have a timeline of over three years but it could be even more or less.
Bonesplitterz were scrapped in 2024, Hedkrakka's 2021.
Warbands are independent of the broader range and they could be reprinted as wild Ardboys or something with IJ keywords

No it's not at all, retard They only said the modeling team were originally thinking of selling these unique one-off sculpts as like, unit upgrade packs until the design team decided to make a game around them instead. Nothing about reusing assets which only a retard who's never sat down and looked at any of even the 1E Underworlds bands would say.
The Bonesplitters Warband in particular is notable for featuring several design changes that make the sculpts very unique compared to the older Bonesplitter models, similar to how the first Seraphon Warband was the first glimpse at how the eventual new wave of Seraphon models would look.

>episode 19: "his involvement in seeing the miniatures and then saying "we should make a awesome game out of this""
>"then the miniatures team provided us these eight sets of fighters... the original idea for these was that they would be sorting of little expansion packs for your existing units. So Bloodreavers to add into your Bloodreavers, three Liberators to add to your Liberators"
Why would models expanding existing units not blend with the existing ones? All the early warbands fit with their respective units unlike the new ones.
>>
>>97937102
Yeah I'm sorry I think that ship has sailed, though there were some vague indications that they might get a halfling warband or something like that.
Anyway, I do expect DE to return to tow sooner rather than later, though if they do it'll probably he with the 8th edition dark riders instead. The ones you're after might show up in a made to order I suppose. Again, /wfg/ will know more about any files (should they exist) than we do.
Oh and I guess there's some rumours of malerion's elves showing up next edition, if they end up getting a 5 man cavalry unit you could always proxy your dark riders there.

"Fit With" and "Manipulation of Existing Assets" are Completely different things. The UW sculpts, even the early ones, are unique, they aren't CAD reposes using the same digital assets.

Speaking of fyreslayers/khazalids what are your hopes/expectations/fears for that release? I feel like we talked a good bit about CoS and ogres but since we know less about slayers it's been slipping under the radar a little bit.
Apparently we're supposed to get like 12 kits, most of which will be new khazalid stuff instead of fyreslayer specific. I feel like the following we can expect with reasonable certainty, but other than that I think it all depends on what aesthetic they want to lean into.
-1: vulkite berzerker replacement kit (warcry style)
-2: mini droth cav
-3: bael-grimnir or some other FS named character
~~~~~
-4: khazalid not!warriors / not!rangers
-5: khazalid not!quarrelers / not!thunderers
-6: valayan priest?
-7: generic thane type 5/3/3/1/2 melee foot character
-8/9: one or two warmachines, maybe that battering ram thing
>>
>>97937403
I wouldn't trust the 12 kits number, remember the idoneth fiasco?
anyway the absolute minimum fyreslayers need is a replacement for the vulkites, the removal of the other infantry kit, a second centerpiece to have a different pose for a droth, and then something to break up the silhouettes of the army like a chariot, or a warmachine, or a cavalry unit that isn't just scaled down droths, like a flying beast
on the normal dwarfs side of things I think the primary concern should be making these dwarfs distinct enough from the fantasy ones, and also from both the slayers and the kharadrons, while still looking like normal dwarfs, apparently they are to get golems, and that's swell, chariots (either at the exclusion or as dual kit with the fyre one) or cavalry would also be a good thing, since fantasy avoided that while the hobbit was a testbed for some fitting designs that could be used, as per infantry I think they would do good by focusing on all purpose units instead of specialised ones, and crossbows instead of guns, so rangers, also because with that they can capitalise on the fluff of these dwarfs having become used to wandering without a true home of their own
>>
>>
>>97937559
rumormongers say idoneth are getting 3 units and spells
people celebrate
turns out the 3 units were a special character, a generic character that could be built two ways with two warscrolls, and the wave elemental that came instead of normal spells
To be fair 12 kits is a bit harder to misinterpret like the idk one. I do think at least one or two of those will be random terrain or manifestation or some shit. But this would be in line with most other recent big releases right? Nurgle and CoS both got something around 10-12 kits.
I just checked, yeah boole implied 6 warscrolls. He also mentioned 4 names; cannonade, conqueror, linebreaker and realmscorcher. Also I think wfbmu implied there'd be at least one named variant.
We already have two of the variants, the cannonade and the conqueror. The cannonade version is the one with the big cannon on top and then an extra cannon at the bottom, while the conqueror has the flamethrower on top and the drawbridge on the bottom.
I think it's reasonable to assume the "linebreaker" will have the cannon on top and the drawbridge below, while the "realmscorcher" will have the flamethrower on top and the extra cannon below. No idea how the last two configurations would work though, maybe a generic and named "command" version?
Also sort of related but another rumourmonger stated that the wizard cogfort was actually an entirely separate kit and gave a fairly detailed description of it. Apparently spindly wizard towers and a courtyard, something like that. This strikes me as very odd though, and apparently this particular rumourmonger (hastings) hasn't been very accurate lately (though he broke some big news like, 15 years ago)
I suppose we'll find out more when the rest of cities goes on preoder in two weeks.
They're getting an AoR for sure, AND every GA will get one cogfort variant to use as RoR, similar to mega gargants. There's no way gw wants a kit this expensive restricted to just one faction. They even showed this off in the reveal article, with a cogfort next to darkoath.
It's a long shot but my mind goes to the stormcast stardrake, it has some very flat rectangular-ish armour plates that would probably fit the mawgrunta decently while still being somewhat close to the CoS aesthetic. Otherwise maybe the armour of the (now back in tow) griffon general?
People still think that releasing new plastic kits is some expensive and risky investment but the truth is that in the last 10 years the technology and know-how behind it got much much cheaper. Nowadays you can even go to Wargames Atlantic and commission yourself a full plastic kit just for a few thousand bucks. GW released over a dozen of free plastic miniatures they literally give away for free at their physical stores.
What army would/do you play?
There's plenty of "learn/how to play age of sigmar" videos out there.
But yeah generally your models, dice, some measuring tool, and the warscrolls and rules for your army. Those cards are a nice extra but wahapedia will do just fine.
Also terrain, but I'm assuming you'd play at an lgs or something?
Yes, TOW RPG and WFRP are separate systems that kinda do the same thing thematically, at least when you compare WanG and IM for 40k RPGs, they are meant to do different things
C7 has to many systems for their own good and they are still releasing new systems like a HH rpg and a Talisman rpg, and that just all the one they license for GW
My LGS has terrain and I've seen a gnarlmaw on their shelves but I'm going to print one anyway in case it's in use or missing.
>>
>>97938680
Nurgle's got quite a few options though if you want maggoth lords you'll struggle since they're available... like nowhere. But otherwise there's lots of other stuff to find.
And you'll need at least 1 gnarlmaw since right now it's pretty good.
I'd like something reptilian or maybe an insect next. Like a rhino beetle or something.
I also like it more when the animal is more incorporated into the design itself rather than just kind of there. The steel rook is a perfect example.
Both are games where you play with "small warbands"
Warcry is AoS lite but with lots of new rules to the point where it becomes its own thing. You build teams with models availables and every model has its card and own rules. Before a game players build the terrain based on random terrain configuration. The game uses cards for some random things (like terrain, or play-game conditions).
Underworlds is like a boardgame/card game that uses miniatures, it has its own rules (and dice)(it is a simplified mechanic/rules, as symbols)(for exemple if you have guys supporting the attacker than the support symbol also becomes a success). You get a fixed warband (from about 30+ available) and can build or pick a deck to use with them (the warband has its own abilies and the decks have their own play style). In 1.0 players would build a play board out o two board (one for each player), in 2.0 (embergard,spitewood) they made only one "huge" board to play (4 options so far). The cards are used for either small effects/warrior upgrades/and objectives(victory points).
>>97936819
Painting chorfs from spitewood, and also starting the kurnoth band
>>97937093
Should work but you better have a good small dedicated brush to apply the glue as if you leave too much glue on the recess it will fuck your model.
>>97937165
Steelheart's Champions, Fireslayers, Garrek's Reavers, Magore's Fiends are the ones from the first season still needing a wide reprint (sprue). Steelheat imo need new sculpt to fit the new stormcaster height
>>97937175
You mean the gauntlets? If so then ok, you got a point: they had modeled asserts that they just copied instead of modelling everything from 0 (but some of the fingers are different).
If it is the hammer then it is not: the Hammer in the underworlds guy has "SIGMAR" written on the side.
When people say reused asserts it is more to say "They picked the whole model, added or changed a weapon and changed their pose".
>>
>>
>>
>>
Apparently some of the whq hero stuff was sculpted by the same guy who did a lot of the early stormcasts (and ironjawz), as well as the new tzeentch fatemaster. Neat that he's still around. He also did a lot of the new 40k slaanesh guys.
>GW released over a dozen of free plastic miniatures they literally give away for free at their physical stores.
If you're talking about commemorative or mini of the month type minis those usually use shittier moulds, since they're obviously not supposed to last years.
>>
>>97939414
I think he is talking about doing the models and the "prime" sprue yourself, not sure if he really wanted to say that, but in that case it could be done for like 1k, going to the manufator and creating molds and casting a few batches would be at least 3k if not more. Not sure if Wargames Atlantic does it for cheaper.
(also in his exemple of GWS giving free sprues: they are not free, you have to have a subscription and that will pays for the "free" sprue (also GWS sells their plastic drugs at a way higher price than other companies so they have a ton of extra money))
>>97939416
I guess they needed stakes and take down a known character to cause shock value. On story I think they went full nepotism in protecting the Stormcaster from their team over a new one that they didn't liked that much.
yes, it's too much when the model looks bad, and it can look bad when the model stops looking like a miniature of a ghoul covered in blood and starts looking like a badly painted figurine.
Use your blood as accent to highlight poses, actions and roles, not as a base colour.
>>
>>
>>
>>97939983
Vallejo surface primer? Primers aren't supposed to be a base layer, use a regular white paint on top but an off white would be less chalky
Primers should just cover the model for paint adhesion, opacity isn't their purpose
OH SHIT you're the guy who wanted the icy ghouls. Nice to see how those turned out. I dunno, it just showed up. Have some varying levels of it like they got bloodkakked.
Ya know I've been cracking jokes at GW for years now with them putting faction leaders as these massive fuckoff centerpiece models or super pricey and all that.
I somehow missed IDK having their leader just be a mounted guy.
>>
>>97940439
I'm really glad we didn't. AoS is great because it's GW's designers attempting to design factions from whole cloth, or at least two points removed from anything IRL, rather than just copypasting IRL ethnicities and calling it a day. Sometimes it works better than others, but just chasing trends would never have given us cool shit like the Idoneth or Sylvaneth. The best factions of Fantasy (TOW and AOS both) are the ones with the least real-world grounding.
And, frankly, the Cathay minis they came up with aren't that great. The TOW threads spooged themselves over the dragon waifu but it did nothing for me. If it does something for you, well, I'm sure you can proxy them as something in AoS if you really want.
thanks anon
i wanted to try purple wings but couldnt get a tone i liked, but then i tried the blue with black and i liked it a lot, it took me a bit to get the skin tone though, i tried a couple different things
i wasnt gonna do them all with blood on the face, but i figured its a spearhead and i wanted it to be like the just all feasted, i also couldnt figure out a way to make the bones ripping out blend so i threw some blood on it and it looked less weird
i knew i wanted to mainly have the claws and mouths drenched, ive never really done blood effects before so it was also just some experimenting, whenever i work on random shit i like trying new stuff
if you want cathay i would just go for it and put them on rounds. the models are a lot of fun, and they match up with the cities roster pretty well
I have models and dice and measuring tape. What else do I need to start playing big AoS?
objective markers, unfortunately. ideally you have an LGS near you where they have those handy to play with, but if not you can always print out or draw some circles on paper. Don't buy the fucking battletome, check wahapedia to get the info for your faction of choice and Sigdex to build your list. People will also just post the pdf if you ask nicely
>Is there a quick rules reference for turns and sequences that I can follow?
on warcom they have a quick start guide. There's a lot to keep track of in a 2k game but if you've been playing spearhead or smaller size games you'll get the hang of it.
>How do you guys reference or search rules mid game?
Sigdex for referencing unit rules and Tabletop Battles app for keeping score. It even has an option to remind you to take pictures of the board.
>Is there anything actually worth playing for?
no, but the free stuff is good enough.
>Do the battle scroll cards stay relevant or do stat lines get changed too much for that? Do I make a binder or have an index card ring or something?
In a single edition the stats might not change much but abilities will get changed, it's not worth getting the battle scroll cards.
