It's not that Blitzwing is too short, Astrotrain just has weird proportions.
You'll notice both their bodies more or less line up to the shoulders except Astrotrain's head is too high up.

So instead of convering like the g1 toy, it has one half be the train and the other half be the shuttle, with a biiiig shell that you fold around to form the other half of each
I mean, it's a cool way to reinvent it, just absolutely dogshit execution

I’ve been watching Victory since it’s up on YouTube and it bothers me so much when the subs leave in a Japanese phrase and don’t bother explaining what it means. It’s especially bad when you look up the phrase and find out that there’s a perfectly good English translation they could have used. Kisama is a rude way of saying “you” and easily translates as “you scumbag” or “you bastard”. They even have the same number of syllables

I can't unsee the miekun meme, bulkier arms would unironically do a lot of heavy lifting for this figure, but my goodness he's so scrawny where he shouldn't be and it just accentuates the other weakpoints. I love the 86 line and think it's the bee's knees but 86 astrotrain is just a laughably (or would be, if I didnt need an astrotrain to the point this just hurts my soul) weak link and let down.
Of all the astrotrain toys, this sure is one of them.

I hate how modern anime dubs don't do this, during the times when you SHOULD do it.
Just because they're overcompensating for this.
There's no fucking excuse for having people address each other as "big brother Shouten" etc. We know what a nii-chan is, use it. But don't fucking leave in keikaku.

It's the same reason sentence enders tend to be ignored completely, because things like that are so uncommon in English they come across more as annoying than anything if they're let in. TFwiki still has a ton of "uuugh these Japanese people are doing Japanese speech THINGS" on a lot of their Beast Wars dub difference pages.
>>
>>11723974
Like I said, they're hypercorrecting.
Just like how their translations are all way overly literal now, even when it makes no sense, and everything's super sanitized because they've been fed the 'japan doesn't have swears' meme

My only real complaint with Siege Astrotrain was the greebles. They make his bot mode look like he was chewed up by a dog. His Titan Returns toy struck a great balance with detail, giving him probably the best looking bot mode of all the modern Astrotrain figures, but both alt modes are kinda awful, and the headmaster gimmick being shoehorned in is annoying.

I mean, that's basically what siege did, just with some fattening and choking on greebles. For some reason hasbro thinks they're capable of reinventing the wheel on already perfectly good triple changers from the G1 era but, fucking hell, at least legacy blitzwing had a good robot mode

>>
>>
>>11724191
The tank dick looks stupid and it stretches out too far and is too uncovered to even be toon accurate. That aside, I don't like the tank because it's completely the wrong fucking tank. It's far too blocky with itty-bitty teeny-tiny fatbread-like treads. Proper G1 blitzwing has a round turret with giant treads showing loud and proud. But I guess it's a lot to ask from modern hasbro to make a tank mode that doesn't suck shit.

I wish Astrotrain wasn't one of my favorite 80s show Decepticons. Is it almost entirely because of Triple Takeover and his cool voice? Yes. But goddamnit he's cute, and oddly pitiable. Probably the coolest choices of vehicle modes too.
He's like, the only triple changer I love now that I think about it, besides Octane for obvious reasons (he will NEVER get a good toy at this rate), TFA Blitzwing (ditto), and IDW Springer (I will never get that decade+ old toy and I hate they'll likely never surpass it). Man... Triple-Changers are so fucked over, dude.

It's neat but I already own a G1 reissue Magnus and the ML Convoy mold, so I decided to pass. Also that armored mode isn't as much of an improvement compared to other MLs due to the original toy having decently articulated arms already and the fact that they had to work with a plank for the legs.
I have enough G1 Magnuses already anyways.

>>

>>
>>11724543
>interestingly, he has the color scheme of the Japanese Astrotrain
That's the reason I bought Galaxy Shuttle, always loved how clever the Takara guys were with the design of the original toy as they actually managed to make the colors change between alt modes so both of them looked realistic. Then Hasbro turned him gray and purple ruining that, but oh well.
>>
>>
>>11724546
I know but the new toy uses the Astrotrain mold in colors very similar to Astrotrain's old Japanese toy. They could've tossed in an Astrotrain's head and let buyers decide which character the new toy is.
>>
>>
>>11724546
We know. It's still an excuse to release that mold in his original realistic colors.
>>11724551
>I don't really care for the SS86 UM
I hated the broad shoulders at first but the transformation of the whole thing is super clever (more than the MP one) and it's a solid and chunky toy all around, I ended up liking it a lot.
>>
>>11724543
Y'know...while I already have Galaxy Shuttle and have no intention of "upgrading" from my Siege Astrotrain, I *might* be tempted to bite at the new mold if they released it in these colors. It'll still look like shit, but at least I can use him as a whole new character and throw him with my Toxitron dudes.
Alternately, I might just track down and buy the original G1 toy for the hell of it.

No they didn't, that was in the cartoon, the hasbro toy is still white
The grey was the prototype colouring and of course the cartoon production was before a lot of toys went to market so there were always going to be discrepancies

Absolutely. I opted for Delta Magnus myself, but it's really the only Transformers purchase I'm planning on this year. Even if the armored mode is a bit limited, it'll still be more than worth it for this sexy blue boy.
>>11724542
>G1 reissue Magnus
So is there any diecast on the original G1 Magnus trailer at all? The ML looks like it's going to do the rear/feet of the trailer in diecast for stability, but I've never handled the original.
>>11724553
I think TR Octane and Blitzwing are both really great triple changers and just plain fun toys in a way that seems alien to the current mainline shit. They have the kind of simple yet effective transformations where you can't pick them up without wanting to change them around, and it's fun to go between any two modes.

Not really. I like trains, they're cool, but they're not a hobby/fixation/etc for me lol. A space shuttle and steam train are just both singularly-cool vehicles that have cool contrast together :)
>>11724543
I really like this guy, for the realistic colors on the alt modes. That's really fun.
Actually guys, here's a question. Why did some fans convince Hasbro that the left >>11723788 is the "correct" colors for Astrotrain's wings? Picrel is the toy the show model was based off, and they use this pattern several times in the show. True, most times they painted the entire wing purple for expediency, but the pattern was always the same as this toy, with the outline around in the lineart.
When did it ever get depicted like the SS86 toy, with a solid purple wing and a gray stripe near the top? And why do people say that's the "correct" design, while the picrel/Siege wings are "an animation error"? That doesn't sound right, if anything these look more correct. Even the final US toy and the JP toy both have the same wing pattern as this toy, despite different final colors.
>>
>>
>>11724584
>>11724587

>>11724593
But it's not. This is what I described, this's the toy wing design but the center is painted purple for expediency. You can even still see the lineart of the outer stripe, as if it was supposed to be two separate colors but they didn't bother. Yeah there's some gray near the top, but so does the toy design.
This's not what the SS86 is. >>11723788 the SS86 has no implied outline even molded in, there's a gray stripe *near* the top but not *on* top; instead the top of the wings are purple. This is just a wholly different design, I don't even know where this comes from.

>when you're reminded of ozempictrain
How did this happen, how did they mess up so badly, a case of re-inventing the the wheel, new designer?
>>
>>11724596
>there's a gray stripe *near* the top but not *on* top; instead the top of the wings are purple
I really think they've been consistently mistransforning that. The gray piece should be on the border of the wing like in shuttle mode instead of being folded, that also would cover the kibble junk that peeks from the top of the wings in robot mode.
>>
>>
>>11724599
Oh of course, agreed; it's like the gray stripe on Optimus Prime's truck cab. It SHOULD be there, it looks BETTER with it, they even rarely did paint it in the show, but most times they didn't. That's what I meant by "Astrotrain's wings 'should' be gray with a purple outline", even though the inside was 9/10 times also purple on the show.
>>11724603
Oh as in, the SS86 wings are mistransformed you think? That... that would explain a lot actually, yeah damn. That hinge on the wings seems to only exist for folding away in train mode, I guess they forgot to fold them back up in bot mode. That is fucked up man.
>>
>>11724616
>they even rarely did paint it in the show, but most times they didn't
AKOM was the ones who would consistently put it there, meaning the stripe was part of the earlier color schemes but revised out. Funniest thing is that AKOM would color the side stripe but not wrap it around to the front.
>>
>>11724601
Hasbro purposefully makes bad molds of popular characters because the day they make a "perfect" one, it will drastically cut into future sales. That's why SS86 Magnus has no neck and super-wide shoulders, or why the SS86 Megatron has blue shins, and only the battle damaged version got the correct color. It's also why they're absolutely fine without addressing they yellowing plastic issue; they know it just means you'll rebuy something down the line.
The problem is that all these toy companies promise their shareholders that they're going to earn more money than last year, every year, forever. But there's no room for market growth in posable action figures (and many other markets), so companies are doubling down on jewing the fuck out of their existing clientele. For Transformers, that means focusing on older G1 fans with disposable income and a room with shelves full of plastic.

This. Some collectors are such checklist cucks that they don't care how good or unique any given figure is as long as it fills an empty spot on their shelves, but I want a Galaxy Shuttle because I genuinely love his original design and want to see it remade.
I want a big dude with a space shuttle nose for a torso, thruster heels, and a tailfin gun. Not "white astrotrain", and all the compromises that entails.

>Some collectors are such checklist cucks that they don't care how good or unique any given figure is as long as it fills an empty spot on their shelves
Dude, pretty much nobody has bought Legacy Galaxy Shuttle for the Victory character first and foremost, the whole appeal of the figure is to have an Astrotrain mold with realistic alt mode colors like the Diaclone prototype. It being a reference to a different dude is just a bonus.
And this is coming from someone who watched Victory as his first Transformers cartoon when I was a kid, so I doubt there's someone here with more nostalgia for that show than me.
>I want a Galaxy Shuttle because I genuinely love his original design and want to see it remade.
Good luck with that, he's a non-character in one of the most obscure Transformers shows for western audiences. The fact Hasbro made space on the Astrotrain mold for his head is already a miracle.

There is something thematically neat about his two altmodes being one that is stuck to a track and another that can escape the bounds of gravity itself and go to space. But due to fuel expense, it still basically follows the track of its parabolic arc and can't really change its mind and go somewhere else.

But that should work fine with properly-subtitled lines since you'd still HEAR them. albeit maybe not know how to spell them (my brother in law used to draw cool anime guys saying "KSO!")

Took a cotton swab/qtip to it with a little bit of water, most of of it came away save for a little dug in bit but yeah, the surface around the pin is cratered like it was plastic that never took or something when compared to the other shoulder. It all works fine and I want to say I could smell oxidation if I got close in, but I couldnt say for sure as that's a new one for me.

I think a lot of Car Robots/RID is sort of shit, but I appreciate the details and the willingness to do different things with robot mode proportions and the car parts (though obviously have huging vehicle chunks as a "shield" is lazy). Modern Hasbro can't even do good face sculpts half the time.

The franchise is over 40 years old, anon. The WFC cycle was the cycle just before Legacy. I was just citing my favorite in memory. Of the toys I own from AotP Megatronus the Werehog and Quickstrike probably have the best headsculpts. Looking outside Transformers, Exkaiser is also excellent.

Yeah nah, looking at just Astrotrain tfor a low hanging fruit example I'm good with sticking to my DCS. Stop being such a consoomer and exercise your own personal taste. All the new molds from 86 will also be "outdated" in a few years if you play that game.
>>
>>11725906
With this I have just realized that Hasbro seems allergic to anything that is #2 or a sequel. They haven't made any proper Energon updated toys aside from Core Class Megatron/Galvatron and that was the second anime in the Unicron Trilogy. We have yet to get any Transmetal 1 toys updated and they appeared in the second season of Beast Wars. They also refuse to do Skids and Mudflap from the RoTF movie.

Help me find a video I remember from ages ago.
It was the building process of a fairly large custom G1 Devastator statue, made out of Tonka trucks and other toys. The face was this weird screaming expression, and the whole thing's proportions were out of wack. Then the guy had some hired "babes" pose around the finished statue.

the show in general downplayed the organic aspect and just kept it as textures, even though having organic skin on the robot modes would be a perfect way around season 1's use of beast modes for protection. The raw energon was all mostly gone so it didn't matter.
But if you look at the Rampage figure, the robot mode bits are all full of pockmarks and ridges to make it feel like organic parts.
The show just does some textures to replicate that.

wrong. only when the person is totally theoretical. Grammar is not, and is never, about your personal knowledge, because that would be retarded. it's about pronoun-noun agreement.
In this case, "one-one-seven-two-five-four-six" is a he-or-she. Whereas "Whoever annon 11725246 is" should be a they. The pronoun corresponds to 'whoever'

Dumbest idea ever: Do anyone collecting G1 Transformers stuff (especially the movie stuff) also collect the Jakks Sonic figures? Someone out there might have the MTMTE Hot Rod and a Jakks Big the Cat figure, so logically, the only thing in mind is giving Hot Rod's fishing rod to Big, who also loves fishing.

I'm skipping Shiel-D Prime, turns out the wholesale deal we had rigged up fell through. and the more I look at it, the goofier the liger mode looks. What the fuck is that thigh to calf to foot ratio? and there's no neck, because the liger head chest is already way too massive in robot mode.. yeah they didn't do this one right at all.
