I have no space for Legos so I made this to play with them in my spare time.
The little man you see in this picture is what I would do when I was a kid and didn't have a lego man to spare.

He can fight Ninjago characters or whatever else, all good. Show Kai who the real master of fire is. Or if one wants to use him as a cosplayer, he can go walk around a city or halloween party.
I know lots of Bionicle fans have Tahu fatigue, but he's my favorite as my first Bionicle. I'm selfishly happy that if/when we get only one Bionicle item we're getting Tahu. I would of course like other Toa, Matoran, whatever else, but if it can only be one, I'm not complaining.

You were NOTHING! A novelty at best. To be seen and forgotten just as quickly. You will adorn shelves for a few months then be shuffled off to bins, cupboards, and drawers once something new comes along. Soon enough you will be sold to second hand stores and stand among others who shined and were forgotten as you pose for hillbillies at flea markets.

Not sure how I feel about the weird scale but it looks good. I'm sure it'll have a ridiculous price tag though.

Why does lego keep making these awful looking brick-built figures? Who is buying these?
>>
>>
>>11764729
>Who is buying these?
they're trying to prove they can sell buildable figures without resorting to a dedicated constraction line. If they were smart and still wanted it to be licensed, they'd make Transformer figs in the 20-40 dollar range

Yeah it’s weird because by and large what people actually want from licenses are minifigures. There is of course a market for shelf warmer statues. But the purchasers of those things aren’t actually asking for that, they just see it and impulse buy it. When people were clamoring for a shrek license, they were clamoring for shrek minifigures. Yeah in the swamp with the house but that’s just fluff.

Apparently we get like 3 minifigure sets (atleast 2 vehicles and new avengers tower done in mini modular style) for Doomsday this year with a Doom bust and Herbie brickbuilt figure too. So that's 5 Doomsday sets for 2026. Next year we are getting Doom's castle from Latveria.
One cool thing is that in Secret Wars, Battleworld will have a more medieval look so we might get some badass sets.

Looks nice but at what price? Also I cannot understand how there are 1k pieces in this set. Is it all just tiny lil bits?
I was contemplating joting this one down if its for 40e or something but I'll have to wait a long while before having the kid play with it.
>>
>>11764784
Why lego does new ver of same set, even if it isnt shit ip
>because it sells
But old set would sell to? How many of you will buy this if you already bought the previous version? Why they dont do another 3in1 set that is different, even a fucking imperial fleet would be more intresting. Meanwhile we get 3in1 castle and 3in1 pirateship every 3 years.
>>
>>
>>11764798
It is simultaneously because they know they usually always want a certain thing on the shelf, but know that the "newness" has worn off, so they retire a set and put an ever-so-slightly-marginally-different version of the same thing out. Its exactly the same reason why they always have an X-Wing, or a Millennium Falcon, etc. out. It is the same damn thing, and people will still buy it anyway. And people are starving for Pirates and Castle, so they'll get whatever crumbs they can.

why is creator 3in1 becoming little girl displayslop? We used to get all sorts of neat smaller minifigure scale sets in this theme. Now it seems like the formula for each wave is:
>one or two large minifigure scale sets harkening back to the good old days £100~
>several brick built animals that are overpriced £60~
>at least 3 cheap display sets for little girls £20~ (picrel)
Where are the £20 submarines and swamp boats and shit we used to get? Where are the minifigure scale houses and buildings?

I don't understand who is buying these sets? I always see them discounted and I'm still not tempted by them. I don't think thing but lego even sells that well. Are there just no straight male lego set designers that want to make cool shit for boys anymore?
>>
>>11764875
their designers are probably filled with trannies, women, and raging homos. The flower builds aren't bad, but who gives a shit about it after 50 sets of the same bland stuff. Afol cucks love display items. Having a small simple house would force them to connect it to a different setup or god forbid make a moc out of it.

It seems I asked at the end of the last thread's life, so I'll ask again here.
I am slowly getting the parts together to make a Conan the Barbarian MOC of the Tower of the Elephant. I'm trying to pick between these two versions of the evil sorcerer Yara I made. Do you guys have preferences?
The one with legs feels a little plain, his beard covers up most of his torso details. the one with skirt piece for robe looks more elaborate, but not as posable. I'm on the fence and figured I'd let my homies here make the choice.
I dig the Queen/Flash reference from last thread, but thats a different dude in a robe haha. I buy/read the Flash Gordon comics published by Madcave right now and those are super fun, it gets a high recommendation.

I really liked the single person vehicles these sets put out too, the smaller ones. Like the helicopter drone and the cyber drone. The helicopter was designed to seat a minifig. And the cyber drone I kept in it's second configuration. The main one was nice but it couldn't hold a minifig with a helmet or hair. So this one suited me better. I think growing up with He-Man and Thundercats made me like those single person flying machines much more.

Name a single house that’s double the price and the same size. The closest analogue I could find on store shelves today is the Unicorn Castle 3-in-1, which is roughly the same price (accounting for inflation), has 10% more pieces, and has three horse figures.

I mean, outside of the books it's a normalfag series now but like Lucas Jackson had his own dogshit prequel trilogy that was unanimously seen as dogshit. And unlike the prequel trilogy there are no nostalgiafags to pretend it was good even. LotR really has had no major impact on pop culture since the original trilogy of films, none of their attempts at milking it has been syccessful unlike Star Wars.

I think they were going toward something akin to those smaller sets with these two in Dreamzzz, down to the accompanying minifig
Also, inb4 "10 instructions online only", think of it as a return to the older Make and Create which came with instructionless inspiration builds.
>>
>>11765499
>tiny piece inflation
It’s also 30% more massive. That’s why I specifically included the weight comparison you dumb motherfucker. So you get an extra pound of bricks (about 500 additional pieces), for about $15 more. This isn’t an unfavourable comparison however you look at it.
>>
>>
>>
>Lego is cheaper if you use inflation!
>Lego gives you more pieces!!
>Its just much better than it used to be!!!
Sorry buds but you can't do shit with 100 1x1 elements. You can't build shit with. You can't make a building or a car. No, it's a ton of filler that would only be used for decorating or adding texture to a larger build. I hate that almost all new sets have 30 extra steps to make a shape that should only need 4 or 5 pieces. Sometimes it feels like it's for build stability, but sometimes it doesn't make the build strong at all. Not to mention a lot of new elements have come out that are super specific like vehicle parts. More worsterser than the worst is that the plastic is thinner/lighter/less solid than it used to be.

>cheaper if you use inflation
Can you give me a single reason we ought not adjust for inflation or are you just looking for any means of clinging to this completely untenable, “only six figure yuppie gigachads can afford lego now!” talking point?
Everything else is totally subjective. I personally like the intricate details and finer forms of more modern sets, but I understand there’s a lot of charm to the older, blockier builds. I’m not interested in fighting you on matters of opinion. But it remains a matter of fact that Lego is not “twice as expensive for the same thing,” today, at least not looking at the examples you yourself provided.
>>
>>11765589
Back then less was more. We are getting charged the same price for worse sets. You want an example? The Batman Batmobile old set vs new set. Old one comes with a villain, new one doesn't. Sure, the new one visually looks more intricate and detailed, yet it doesn't come with any big blue fire pieces. There are tons of pieces under the build exterior that serve no prupose. This isn't new tho, it's been getting worse and worse, as someone who back into Lego like 12 years ago. That's twelve years of improvement for you but 12 years regression for me. And it's not just the builds. The packaging is getting worse. Even the paper bags feel half assed AND something that should have been done 20 years ago. The company is getting bigger. They are producing more and more sets in manufacturing, meaning they have to rush this shit out now to meet demand. They raised the prices the same year they reported their highest revenue/profit ever, and this was without covid or an oil shortage or inflation to fuck with supply and demand. I still buy Lego and enjoy building sets and moccing but I'm not going to pretend that the current state of Lego is perfect. Like, if they refuse to make smaller more affordable, less intricate, more imaginative sets for kids, then all they will have is us older customers. If kids only want TikTok and Minecraft, how will Lego survive? Especially since they're so comfortable abandoning their original themes. And I mean REAL original themes, not shit tied to cartoon media that needs to be outsourced by some other company. If licenses fully replace original themes then that puts the company in jeopardy that they are subservient to Disney/Warner/Universal/Nintendo instead of Lego doing whatever they want to do in terms of sets. And in all honesty it feels like they cannot do what they want anymore. People used to complain about it in the past but now I see how licensed sets are a drag on the toy.

LotR fans have far, far higher standards than Slop Wars piggies, objectively. Their biggest sin is consooming the MtG set with Niggagorn- admittedly a black mark but not nearly the humiliation ritual Luke has been through.

>>11765589
I actually think the reasoning behind people talking about Lego being more expensive these days are more abstract than literal comparison of similarly priced sets with regards to inflation, and things like piece count.
For starters, Lego has such an overwhelming number of IPs now, and far more sets within those IPs than they ever used to, and they tend to even release more sets in every "wave" throughout the year.
Even if you hate Star Wars, in the early years, there were some years where they'd only release maybe 10 sets. Now, they practically release 10 sets at a time, like a half a dozen times a year (or more.)
But I think one of the biggest things that no one really accounts for is this: Regardless of inflation, Lego just almost never released sets more than $100 in the 80s and 90s. Outside of maybe some of the big monorails and stuff with sounds and electronics, it just feels like it never happened. Even the biggest "flagship" set of any given theme was in the $80-$100 range. The biggest pirate ship. The biggest Castle. The biggest Star ship or space base. They were all within that range. It also felt like Lego really focused on many very small sets. like most themes legitimately felt like half the sets were sub $15 or so.
Now it feels like the entry level to many themes is $100. Star Wars on its own has like 5 sets on shelves right now that are in the $500-$1000 range, and probably as many more that are in the $250-$500 range.

Supposedly lego secretly hates the prequel era.
Also it's literally an N1 but in grey with PC mods, I don't give a single shit about modern disney wars nor mando shit but I won't mindlessly hate on a cool ship especially if it's literally just a color-swap of an older beloved prequel ship.

You're already a better writer than the entire current star wars team combined. They have no creativity whatsoever, it's the exact reason why the mando N-1 even exists to begin with, if the shameless tatooine "podracing" scene didn't already tip you off.

They do play star wars music but don't play the iconic pew pew sounds
I wonder why though - would there be a licensing agreement where some other toy manufacturer already has the exclusive rights to use those sounds in their products? Surely the sound effects aren't prohibitively expensive to license if they can get the music

Solid parts that don't bend held up excellent, all the coins from pirates I have, all the spears from the aquazone sets and those crystals too, the chrome parts from aquanauts, the chestplates from the spanish pirates, etc.

Is this a serious problem with cmfs? I remember buying some series 1 and 2 figures and thinking they felt like cheap dogshit. More modern series feel a lot better but ordering a minifig and having to gamble on the print is offputting.

I just realised, how come they use Latin letters for ships, droids, etc in Star Wars when their alphabet is Aurabesh in-universe? Especially ships like X-wing and Y-wing where the letter comes from the shape of the ship, so it's clearly the Latin character and not the phonetic equivalent in Aurabesh.

I figured it was an out-of-universe translation. Like the characters and names aren’t actually in English, but that’s how it’s presented so viewers can understand it.
So an N-1 would actually be a “Nern 1”, but nobody would know what that means, so it’s “translated” to N-1 for the audience.
>>
>>11765802
the in-universe explanation is that our "regular alphabet" is some kind of galactic ancient letters, so those are sometimes used as prestige markings
similar to the way we use Roman Numerals for numbers like "Superbowl LIX" doesn't make sense either

I'm pretty sure the limiting factor is the size of the RFID chips (~1kB) and they can only fit the midi format. The better solution would be to have the sounds stored on the bricks in mp3 or something and you can update them using bluetooth and a phone app so they aren't including the Star Wars sounds in non-licenced sets. That would also allow creativity and kids writing their own basic functions (eg when a green piece touches the side of the brick, play rocket sound effect and create red light).

I don’t disagree with a lot of what you’ve laid out (especially the ascension of IP product), but I was reckoning purely with the example given and purely with the notion that we’re “paying double for the same product,” which doesn’t appear to be the case.
>>11765668
Yeah, the average price of sets has something like doubled in the last decade and a half, and a lot of the flagship IP icons sets start around $300. Lego’s absolutely leaning into adult lifestyle marketing and positioning itself as a “luxury” product, but (as cringe as all that is) this isn’t really happening to the exclusion of smaller, cheaper sets which exist in higher numbers today than ever before (even if the make up a smaller proportion of Lego’s output now).
A lot of people also seem to be talking out of both sides of their mouths. They feel left out of, say, The 40,000 piece, $3600 enterprise made almost entirely of cheese slops and greebling pieces, but they claim to only like 200 piece sets with nothing more complicated than a 2x2 inclined brick.

>What's with normies' fascination with this stuff.
Adult LEGO fans get to experience the same fun of putting something together that they enjoyed as a kid, and it results in something you can display as a normie without the same shame as something extremely nerdy like a castle. I don't think it's terrible surprising at all that they're popular. They also tend to be smaller sets that somehow retail for like $50, so it seems like they have a pretty healthy profit margin.

There's already a new challenge up on Lego Ideas. This time, it's the Batmobile.
>What makes Batman an iconic superhero? Is it his fighting skills and growling voice? The Bat Family of crime-fighting allies at his side, protecting Gotham City against an ultimate rogue gallery?
The legacy of the Dark Knight is built on all of these... and more! Because in Gotham City, Batman's identity isn't just tied to his cloak and drive for justice. His legacy is also written in the engine roar of the Batmobile.
>Your Mission Objective
In our newest LEGO Ideas challenge, we invite you to build upon that legacy. Design Batman’s next ride. A simple task with one minor caveat: your build must celebrate what you find special by the 80-year heritage of Batman lore and arguably the most iconic fantasy vehicle ever.
>A Celebration of the Batmobile
This challenge is held as a celebration of the upcoming LEGO® Batman™: Legacy of the Dark Knight video game and in honor of the 20th anniversary of LEGO DC Batman. The LEGO Batmobile comes in almost all shapes and sizes. And like the new video game which pays homage to all the coolest Batmobiles throughout history, your design should capture what makes a true Batmobile: power, presence, and pure-crimefighting capability.
>Rules of engagement
The Batmobile is fast. It sparks fear in every villain. And it most definitely comes in black – although other color schemes are allowed as long as Batman would approve! Grab your bricks, get inspired by the evolution of Gotham City’s most iconic machinery, and build the quintessential Batmobile. Load it with gadgets. Shine it up to turn heads. Or make it so intimidating, the bad guys check themselves into Arkham Asylum.
It’s your choice. Your build. Your Batmobile.

Usually around $200 to $400 is the standard depending on the size. The only one that had ever stuck out to me personally is the Transylvania castle but I missed out on the initial preorder and am not willing to pay the scalper tax. It's a bit frustrating as unlike standard sets where you can wait, see reviews, then form a opinion you either have to preorder dead set on it or wait and likely pay for it at a 50 to 100% price increase. Over the years I have seen mixed things from people, because these sets are made by various designers different design philosophies exist across them so while some try to find that happy medium between display and play others will be entirely dedicated to being display pieces. The other thing is that a set's final design that is sold for retail can sometimes alter significant aspects of the build which can be frustrating.
>>
>>
>>11766360
>>11766384
The thing he didn't mention is that popular sets can and have sold out in minutes. If you're interested, be ready. There's just as many if not more scalpers and lego spectators in on this stuff at this point, and they know these sets double in value instantly. If you want it, be ready to pull the trigger minute one. This set in particular seems to be getting a lot of hype, this will be the only set in all 10 series that I myself am going to attempt to buy.

As a castlefag myself I'm kind of too deep into it to really stop at this point but if you're someone just getting interested in the theme I feel it's at least looking into the lumibricks castle line. For a long time I saw alternate brick brands as heresay, just cheap garbage not worth considering, but over the years lego's own offerings for the theme have become slimer and slimer and other brands have started to bring more to the table. I do not own any lumi sets myself so I can't speak on them but reviews I've seen seem to be pretty happy with them, you get a lot and at a way cheaper price compared to even the lower end modern castles, all of their current sets are below $200. The only gripe I usually see about them are the minifigs but the lumi system is compatible with lego so you can use their minifigs if you want. If you want lego get lego obviously but unfortunately it's kind of hard for me to suggest castle to new people, stuff like pab helps with army build but with no proper theme since 2014 you kind of have to work with what scrapes lego gives you or pay big money for older sets.

Off-brand "not Lego" has improved drastically over the years. I too never even considered them, and thought it was a joke to even think about them, but considering how Lego's own quality has dipped, and their prices have run away to absurd levels, off brand stuff is pennies compared to Lego. They still aren't 100% up to snuff, but I'd say they're pretty close. I've only bought one off brand set so far, essentially one of the modular-esque buildings from a company called Insoon, and I was pretty impressed.
Many of these off brands are doing a lot of Castle and Pirate sets, some of them are fucking huge, and still cost way less than Lego stuff. I would suggest a company called Reobrix if you're looking for Castle and/or Pirates stuff. There is one pirate ship I want to get that they've done that is like 3 and a half feet long, twice the piece count of Lego's Black Pearl and costs half as much, and many other ships that have similar piece counts as the Black Pearl, yet cost less than 1/3 the price.

Friends is extremely successful, it was Lego's first real success at capturing the girl market (after homemaker, paradisa, belville, scala). The "inclusivity" ideology is actually against stuff like Friends because it "reinforces gender stereotypes" (ie acknowledges that males and females are fundamentally different).

Anything can be labeled as "slop" because someone doesn't like it. And "shill" is tossed around to anyone who might try and say, "Hey, maybe it's not as bad as you think." I mean is it common on other threads for everyone to get butt-hurt because whatever brand they like doesn't seem to cater to them as an exclusive costumer base? I definitely see that here. Lego makes plenty of bad decisions but so many here seem to act like some choice in minifig or print design is a cataclysmic blunder because they don't like and TLG isn't giving them precisely what they want.

Build is mediocre but even as a parts pack like >>11767340 said the price is the actual worst aspect of it. I expect this shit out if IP themes, creator is suppose to be more accessible. The castle and pirate ship aren't unreasonably priced so no idea why this one is.

>>
PAB order arrived and Lego tried to gaslight me into thinking that I forgot to order Griffon Knight torsos by not displaying them on the invoice and including all the other parts I bought but them. Turns out they are just being shipped separately for no reason.
>>
>>11767305
I bought a stupid amount of these for making custom medieval figs and I still regret not getting more. I only got one of the purple/orange lady (teethling? I don't know DnD at all.) and now I feel like her torso and legs would complement the Snake Knights nicely. At least she hasn't gained much value, I was mostly buying up that Dragonborn Paladin figure. Hopefully we see a proper castle CMF line soon.

I still have trust in the euro lego magazines. Some time during this year they will add the galactic marine fig. They added both the new clone pilots, they should add the galactic marine too. Only bacara will be exclusive to that set until some retard at lego re-releases the juggernaut set as something slightly better and 5x more overpriced
>>
>>11767458
They'll probably be big on the secondary market 10 years down the line. No one bought it because of the retarded price and build but people will still be wanting the minifigs. I wouldn't be surprised if they reach $50 per fig by 2032.

I miss stuff like the Island Adventures set. I only learned about it after it was off the market but just looking at the box art I got an idea for a whole narrative to play out through the builds.
Plane and pilot crash on a tropical island no one visits. Guy takes the wreckage of his plane and builds the shelter. In the meantime, he befriends a parrot on the island that seems to know how to talk. One day while exploring the island, he stumbles on to a rusted box with what looks like a map on it. While thinking out loud and looking at it the parrot starts repeating phrases. Our hero figures out this parrot is the descendent of the parrot that a well-known pirate had way back when and who also was rumored to have hidden his treasure in the area. Between what the parrot says, having learned the phrases from his parent, and the map, he realizes he can find this lost treasure. So he takes down the shelter and uses it and some more parts that have washed up since he arrived and builds a boat to go out, find the treasure, and get it back to civilization.
>>
>>11767451
Okay. It doesn't look too complicated. Maybe taking off the wings and the top of the back should help show what you did. And a full layout of the parts should help me put it together in my head. It would be greatly appreciated. It is a nice little ship, and I like the design language you used for it.

boy would it be a thing if Lego doesn't even release the City sets, or Pokemon sets, or other themes that were planning on having Smart Bricks.
they yanked Vidiyo off the shelves before the 2nd wave was planned to come out, and Smart Bricks seems like the exact same situation:
--new [tech] thing! it will be amazing we spent so much work on it!
--sets release, cost twice as much
--DOA. nobody buys double-priced sets. at all.

what a tough call for Lego
they desperately needed the sets to sell, so they picked Star Wars as the launch, assuming sloppity-slop-slurpers would buy them (and extras to put in storage for selling later!)
but it turns out even those people have standards, and laughed at the embarrassing performance of the brick (c'mon... accurate voice clips in toys was do-able 30 years ago! at least the pew-pew laser blast noises? no?) and now the whole thing is just sad
>>
>>11768423
>>11768441
Had it released with one of Lego’s original IPs it definitely would’ve been received better. One of the biggest complaints is that Star Wars has such iconic sound effects that the smart bricks don’t just use. If they were making generic construction or driving noises it wouldn’t be a problem.

agreed.
it's nice getting that one torso or hat from that $X00 set for a couple bucks. it's secretly the work-around to the ridiculous expensive set nonsense.
i've done that a couple times. just be careful you'll be like OH! That piece! 3 of those! oh! that is a cool torso, maybe I can do a couple guards... 4 of those. and before you know it, you've got random bits costing $150. but if you count the $4000+ you would have had to spend to get them all by buying sets, the $150 all of a sudden seems like an amazing deal. (Lego still wins though... argh)
>>
>>11768569
It’s frustrating ordering an item that’s in high demand for the first 3-5 months of its release. Like if you wanted any of the four new knight legs or torsos when they first released on PaB, it’s an incredibly frustrating experience because they go in and out of stock daily. But torsos legs helmets and shields arent in stock at the same time. The solution is to either
>get a bot that tells you when restock happens and wait for stars to align
>wait 5(?) months for the initial rabid army builders and resellers to lose interest.
The worst time I had with PAB was trying to get Wolfpack torsos. I managed to get an order in semi early and lego confirmed it but IIRC it took 3 months to actually arrive.
>>
>>11768423
I wonder if lego was thinking that the whole smart bricks interacting with each other would be a big selling point and that's why the 2 first lines for it were ones that feature battling? Like they did market research that people buying city sets would only buy one smart brick containing set, but people buying star wars and pokemon sets would buy multiple so they could recreate fights.

You haven't seen shit, that's generous. Old castle accessories go for shitloads. Old shields are like $6-10, generic soldiers are like $8-12, and horse bardings are like $30-40. Lego refuses to do a modern castle theme so you're either left with collector's sets or old stuff.

You can adjust its ears, tail and head quite a bit to give it some personality. Even the legs and feet, but the big problem with it is that the head makes it so front-heavy that you can't make total use of the articulation, so you mostly just get minor adjustments out of it, outside of the tail and ears.
That said, I am not even a big pokemon person, but I don't regret it.

If it makes you feel better, the interior is not great. The space in the large building is mostly taken up by the gate, so there isn't much room to put anything else and it turns out most of the content is in the smaller building. You could build your own out of loose parts and it would be more fun.

Thats what im doin atm, i tried to do it like 2y ago, but i didnt have parts to finish the build. I rebuilded orginal with my own changes (higher walls/different towers) but I still wasnt happy with it. Orginal build really is lacking when it comes to interiors. Theres just one room with bed, the dining/visiting hall (throne room) is to small, some towers arent climable, overall it just itching my autismo.
Now im building totaly new moc that is a castle taken over by evil force. I was close to running out of place with some sets and my mocs, so i just used medieval smith, part of the dnd set and new medieval marketplace.
The only bad thing is that this build is so large for my standards, that ive already spent like couple weeks on it. I plan to build few structures for my fantasy village with leftover parts when im done with the main build, since I already got a part of the village moc in a form of an inn and alchemy shop.
