Been thinking since I don't have time to play and 4chan is shitting the bed lately anyway.
I still don't really think I've got a feel for the prominent locals here - what they're into, identifying posters by images, what their personalities are like, how best to talk to them - even after hanging around for a while now.
When I lurk to try and observe, it feels like the vast majority of posts are shitposting, and when I actively post as an ava I usually get ignored or don't see a way into conversations other people are having.
People post a lot about avas vs anons, but it seems very clear to a newfag that there's an in-group including both avas and anons who communicate in shared references, previously-established understandings, and so-on. A lot of posters seem to respond to this situation by getting angry and anonymously shitposting, but even trying to play by the rules, so to speak, and make inroads to the local culture as an ava, I haven't had much success and I'm not sure how to proceed. I've gotten some sessions, but still feel very much like I don't get it here.
Maybe I'm just being a retard and I need to lurk moar. Maybe it's been too long since I had to adjust to a new board/general and I've forgotten how. That's definitely possible.

hm... i'm leaving soon so i can't talk too much, however, personally when i was starting out i did just try to catch a feel for what various people who seemed interesting might enjoy and then offer them some idea from that. after you write something with someone its easier to do so again and also to more properly feel what things they enjoy that you might also like.
if you can't see what they like from what they speak of then perhaps look at what scenes they write? thats about all the advice i think i can give, i wish you luck in finding what you desire.

Now that I think about it, I only realize that a second season released that I have not yet seen. You wouldn't have to know much about the lore if she happens to spark your interest for something.
