Are foreigners who travel to Japan the most obnoxious? Is there something about Japan as a place that makes the tourists act out?

Yes, it attracts some of the worst tourists (obviously not me though :)).
For a lot of people, Japan is their first trip abroad. It's a shame, because Japan isn't a good country for newbie travellers.
I'm here now after being away for 10 years and the increase in obnoxious tourists is very noticeable. I can't imagine what's it's like for the locals in a place like Kyoto where they have to watch morbidly obese western roasties or pajeeta tour groups dressing in their traditional clothing while taking selfies with the cherry blossoms. It feels like a sad mockery of their culture and history.

Also, Japan has always attracted fat smelly weebs, but I've noticed a lot more unironic tranime troons which is simply disgusting. It doesn't help that a lot of these weirdos make Japan their yearly vacation spot and never travel anywhere else.
In 2027, the government is going to start limiting the number of tourists they let in which is great and long overdue.

just too many of them
i've only been to tokyo in 2023 and 100% of the time in a bar the only japanese person was the bartender
basically if you don't speak japanese you're gonna be with other tourist
also i really remember thinking that japanese people must hate white people because i saw so many (i assume american) being badly dressed obese weeb
theres just a bad vibe amongst tourist there, it's like every tourist hates other tourist despite them being tourist as well. Like "oh my god another fucking tourist who probably doesn't respect japanese culture" vibes
i guess it's fine if you travel with a friend/partner or you speak japanese, in my case i don't wanna travel across the world and hang out with barry who lives 2h away from me back home

Japan is an affordable tourist location - that's the core of the problem. It's has first-world infrastructure, and you can have a nice holiday there at second-world prices.
Thus less there's filter for the riff-raffs

>it's like every tourist hates other tourist despite them being tourist as well. Like "oh my god another fucking tourist who probably doesn't respect japanese culture" vibes
This is true tho. Especially white weaboo bitches giving you a death stare for just existing in their fantasy.
Then, they realize that you speak a better japanese than them and they become interested in you.
>>
>>2874012
Yea i mean i get it, but then you're with japanese who doesn't speak a word of english, i don't speak japanese, so it's just sad. just my experience
>Maybe go to a bar outside Shibuya or Harajuku next time, you fucking retard.
just goes to prove my point that there are so many tourist

japan is just the new thailand. it's cheap enough now that any sexpat or party-bro now finds it an attractive destination.
i don't mind though because japanese people are annoying karens who will sperg out at white guy being slightly obnoxious but do nothing while their women are raped by literal niggers from an occupying military force and serial-pedophiles are routinely given slaps on the wrist.
imo, they deserve it more than the thais who are largely chill people.

I’ve read multiple stories of white foreigners experiencing xenophobia from locals staying in Japan, saying stuff like "b-but I respected the local customs!"
It’s as if a significant portion of the country is hostile towards foreign tourists.
In contrast, although it was a short trip, I felt nothing but kind service and no hostile attitude towards me. Well…the immigration lady in Kansai looked like she had a short temper, and then there was this cunt who sat on my seat on the Skyliner going to Narita, insisting it was hers, and being a bit nasty towards my wife who sat next to her. It prompted me to ask the conductor about it, showing the ticketc but I wasn’t crazy and he told her it was my seat, which forced her to give it up and go arguing with the conductor instead. Didn’t apologize which I’m okay with, but thought it was customary to do in Japan.
Otherwise everyone I interacted with were either respectful or genuinely kind. My favorite instance was when we were leaving Shinjuku Goyen Garden because it was closing, an elderly guard was waving at everyone with a huge grin on his face saying "bye byeeeeee! arigato gozaimasu!! byyeeee sank yuuu"
It was so adorable.
All I did was being respectful, giving way to Japanese in metros etc. and using a little bit of Japanese. In addition I hand over money with both hands which I think matters a bit and is a concept kinda foreign to westerners. Also I dress decently with Uniqlo chinos and polos.
But what about those redditors? Is it because they’re fat ugly retards?
>>

>giving way to Japanese in metros
It's a big one.
Imo a gaijin should never sit in the metro. You're a guest in the country, you didn't pay for the infrastructures, you don't come back from work. I always stand up.
>>
>>2874041
>a gaijin should never sit in the metro
What a fucking cuck you are
Am I supposed to stand on a 1.5 hour local train that has plenty of open seats in every carriage on the train?
I understand giving up your seat on a crowded train, but you are truly pathetic and should probably kys for being such a faggot

You are reading ragebait posts probably designed to create some kind of post engagement/do some kind of shilling.
My experience has been the same as yours, everyone I have interacted with has been civil at the least and sometimes even friendly to me. Out of the months I have spent there I can count on one hand the times I have negative experiences and they were people just glaring at me. People need to realize that the internet is not reality and the retards posting things on here are full of shit.

All I know is that Italy has decided to make Japan their new shithole. Like I never want to hear about obnoxious Americans after this trip. Italians out here tossing trash everywhere, being loud af on trains, blocking paths, blocking seats. Giving the Chinese a run for their money

you sound like those fat ugly retards redditors
"le japanese people was so polite and i was polite wow japanese awesome arigator japan see i was nice not like bad tourist"
you sounds like you look at other white people with disgust
hey next time in the metro i think you should try to bend down and kiss some japanese shoes while you're at it, show even more respect you stupid white foreigner, that will be very sugoi of you

i saw maybe 3 troons (excluding yours truly) who wouldnt be doubletake worthy clocky to anybody not living on 4chan in tokyo within a month.
also japan was boring and only a few chill dude bro westerners will even speak, as most have this fake elitism where they pretend they arent white/think acting "japanese" will make locals give out their first born to them out of respect, but it just comes off as weird autism.

Big scam.

Yeah, there was a woman and her two young kids from Tokyo to Kamakura last time.
They are not priority but i let them the seats and she thanked me.
Eat shit.
White foreigners should go beyond what's expected to show that they are not like naggers and should not be mixed with them as bad foreigners.

>taking the train in tokyo last summer
>some 20s nintendo looking dude was sat in priority seating next to 2 poos, one with a baby
>the nintendo dude was smiling at the baby and shit
>an elderly woman gets on the train and has nowhere to sit
I was pretty disgusted that day, it was probably the guy you are responding to.

>Imo a "gaijin" should *never* sit in the metro. I *always* stand up.
Backpedaling faggot. I clearly stated that you *should* give up your seat to locals if the carriage is full.
That being said, I was returning to Osaka from Kyoto last Tuesday on a late, local train that was slower but I went with it because it had zero transfers for my end station. At MAX, the carriage was less than 20% occupied and *everyone* had their own seat, nearly their own row even. I had been exploring Kyoto for 12 hours on foot. I'm supposed to stand for an hour and a half in an empty train because I don't pay Japanese taxes or something? Lol fuck you weeb cuck.
>you didn't pay for the infrastructures
That must be difficult traveling around Japan without walking on sidewalks or throwing away garbage. Don't know how you do it, faggot.
>You don't come back from work
And what about the "gaijin" that work in Japan?
>White foreigners should go beyond what's expected
This is true for ANY country that you are a guest in. Grandstanding weeb faggots such as yourself as fucking cancer

I'm a Kyoto resident. Too many of you give off a bad aura. Of course, I may be giving off a bad aura, but at least I try. Broccoli haired wiggers and obese Pikachu t-shirt wearing slobs aren't even doing the bare minimum.

I don't think they are capping arrivals, but they are putting in more controls. Higher pricing for entry, reservations, and capping for tourists at attractions, increased tourist tax, online applications before arrival, and potential proof of health insurance.

The details haven't been fully ironed out yet, but things are changing. They are also adding more rules to foreign residents as well

Like I said, a lot of the policies haven't been ironed out yet, but they are starting to roll out new rules for tourists to deal with the overtourism problem

Yeah no shit there's going to be a lot of tourists in two of the most popular areas for tourists in the city. Might as well be complaining that a bar in Times Square or Hollywood is filled with tourists too. If you don't want to be surrounded by tourists try going somewhere outside the Yamanote Line next time.
>>
>>2874003
> Shibuya crossing
im here now. it's the end of cherry blossom season so there's more tourists than usual. every evening around 6 - 7 (get it?) PM, it's the busiest i've ever seen. absolutely mental. the tourists are now doing this thing where they run to the middle of the crossing every time the light turns green to see who can make it there first. I'm just standing there staring at this behaviour in disbelieve.
there's something about the tourist in japan that makes me want to avoid them as much as possible.

>also i don't speak japanese and expect them to understand my native tongue
yea lol where did i write that ?
> If you don't want to be surrounded by tourists try going somewhere outside the Yamanote Line next time.
asking tourist to "just go somewhere outside yamanote line" is like me saying "yea if you visit paris just stay outside paris" if you have to go out of the yamanote line in tokyo to escape tourist, it just means that there are tourist everyfuckingwhere in tokyo lol
>>
>>
>>2875024
>asking tourist to "just go somewhere outside yamanote line" is like me saying "yea if you visit paris just stay outside paris"
Zip it, you fucking retard. Tokyo is a massive collection of cities, and many of the most interesting areas to wander around and eat/drink in are outside the Yamanote loop, in all areas of the city. But, by all means, encourage the idiots to stay in the circular containment zone. It makes my life far better here.
>>
>>
>>
>>2875166
>my point is right and you know it kek whatever you say
You seem like a retarded ESL, but I guess if your point is that tourists should not bother going outside the Yamanote line because it’s pointless, I agree.
>>
>>2875174
and you seem like a retard amerimutt who tries to teach english in japan and think you know it all
If you're a tourist with 5 days in tokyo you're not gonna go outside the yamanote line, simple as. if you can't understand this simple concept i can't help you
wow you live an hour away from tokyo good for you anon sama, teach us all about japan onegaishimasu
>>
>>
Yeah probably. Also the weebs who flip their lid at the foreigners acting up are great. Like "Nooo! You are setting us back 20 years! I was this close to being accepted as a true Nipponjin!"

It was great in the past, few tourists and no social media influencers and streamers. People were kind and welcoming in most places.
It's definitely changed. Influx of people everywhere and the locals are huge cunts too. Not even worth it anymore.
>>
>>2874051
I've noticed this too. Italians are the new Chinese, they are everywhere, always in groups, I've even seen tour groups of old people just like Chinese used to do "lai le lai le!!"
Which confuses me because I'm Italian and Italians don't have any money and don't work so why are they everywhere
>>
>>2875177
>a tourist with 5 days in tokyo you're not gonna go outside the yamanote line, simple as.
Totally right.
I will even say that a good portion of tourist cattle will just stay in 4 or 5 spots in Tokyo (Asakusa, Akihabara, Shibuya/Harajuku).
They won't wander in Meguro or Edogawa.
They'll go to Senso-Ji, then Sky Tree, that will be one full day. Then day 2 Shibuya/Harajuku and so on and on day 5 they just fuck off to Mount Fuji, then Kyoto, then Osaka.
That's the majority of tourists.
>>
>>
>>2875379
You're a very special person.
Anyways, in numbers that's what tourists to. That's why those places are overcrowded, it's simple logic.
Then you walk 10 mn and you've lost 90% of those tourists (the chinese or boomer tour cattle, the basic bitch couples, and the non walking americans).
