RIP Lost Continent edition
>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney/Universal discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.
General Rules:
1. Talk about Theme Parks and Rollercoasters.
2. There is no second rule.

Replying to the other thread about the hippogriff coaster. It’s a clone, there are 28 others with the same layout including Dragon at Legoland about an hour away (which is better because they extended the layout to to start with a quick dark ride) and the Woodstock Express at Cedar Point. It’s a good layout for a baby coaster but nothing unique or special. Just a longer version of Barnstormer

I like how this superman rollercoaster has a themed queue based on the daily planet. Imagine if they had a spider-man outdoor coaster that had the exact same queue as the one at islands of adventure

You think magic kingdom could still have a shooting range of some kind? Maybe if they had it in Villain's land and they themed it to Gaston or Clayton from Tarzan?

I never did the shooting gallery because I always assumed it was an upcharge to play and didn't care enough either way.
"Woke Disney" is a played out cheap excuse but I seriously doubt anyone there would push a shooting range attraction these days unless it was a very sanitized boardwalk carnival thing.
And what would be the point anyway?

Big Thunder reopening May 3rd. I really wanna get back on it but I just know crowds are gonna be ridiculous in the park for a long time I don't know when I should attempt it.
I guess gamble on rainy weather or something.

>Third Tokyo Disney park
Where? Everything around the Tokyo Disney Resort is completely full, they definitely don't have any space there, at least nothing the size of a third park. Would they build it somewhere else in Tokyo? A third park in an entirely different part of the country?

Sup bros.
Visiting the USA in summer this year and I'm thinking of getting a six flags pass.
Can someone confirm if I'm understanding the perks, or if any of these points are incorrect?
- Order prestige pass for Six flags over texas.
- Visit six flags over texas to pick up and do first usage of pass. I Can use my "free friend tickets" on this first visit, right?
- I have all fancy perks/VIP/Parking at this park and friends do too while with me?
- Later in trip visit Cedar Point. I can also visit here as many days as i want, right?
- I can also park for free here, but don't have pass perks/VIP stuff here, right?
Also. I'm thinking of spending 2.5 days at Cedar, one waterpark day included.
Will I be able to do at least the top best rides in that time? Mid July
Appreciate any answers, the info online is hard to parse. Most is people comparing how the pass used to work to how it does now, but that doesn't help if you never knew.

Land reclamation of the bay next to the parks, that’s how they built the original TDL park in the first place
It is costly but will be far cheaper to simply reclaim land than trying to acquiring existing land, and it was the same back 40 years ago. The site is strategic so they will not have the land issues that Disneyland has if they want it while still being in a dense urban environment

Third park at Tokyo Disney is a no-brainer. The place is already pretty close to capacity year around (although they actually lowered capacity because they felt the parks were too busy which is one of the many reasons the OLC are great)
The zootopia land at Shanghai is pretty great but a clone would be so lazy. Either way, Disney really need to sort out their pipeline for building new shit, whatever they were building should have already been past the groundwork stage by now.
On a related note, here's the boats for the Lion King ride at Paris, a bit funny they didn't go with an African tree style. It's a modern splash mountain but at least it's not a direct clone. Biggest Show building at the resort (PoTC is probably the current biggest). Going to be a book report ride, hopefully this time they'll be sensible and the big drop is Simba or Scar handing off of pride rock and the big final scene is the Circle of Life reprise.

>disney rehashing rides
No surprise there. Their lazy attitude is so apparent when it comes to their US parks.
>inb4 Disney autist says villainsland is unique
They’re fitting ANOTHER magic carpet/dumbo ride in that area. That makes FIVE of the same ride in the park!!

It’s a real problem. They make them stand in the lines too and I had one slam into my ankles on an incline in a queue. Then at the ride the person walked out like they had no problem walking. Law and policies state you cannot assume that people using them don’t need them but I think that’s absolutely bullshit. All those fat people are just fucking lazy fat pieces of shit who shouldn’t even be at a theme park. They should be glued to a treadmill 24/7 while holding weights and have IVs of ozempic and goyslop attached to them

>did I miss anything???
Yeah, like half the fucking planet. imagine typing all of this out and still acting like theme parks are just corporate IP farms where every ride is either Marvel, Star Wars, or “remember that movie from 2003?”
There are parks out there actually building insane coasters and rides that don’t require a lore primer and a Disney+ subscription to understand. Parks where the main attraction isn’t standing in line next to a $12 pretzel and a family of 6 having a meltdown. But nah, (((you))) are locked in the content loop
>new retheme
>new retheme
>ride closed
>ride reopened but now with different hat
Riveting stuff. Like, bro at this point you’re not even reporting news, you’re just reading a corporate changelog out loud. Meanwhile entire parks exist where:
>rides open on time
>don’t get “temporarily” closed for 3 years
>don’t come back as the same ride but now sponsored by whatever IP tested well with focus groups
but those don’t count I guess because Mickey Mouse didn’t personally sign your autograph book. Keep posting your “updates” though. I’m sure next month we’ll get breaking news that a trash can got rethemed to Guardians of the Galaxy and you’ll write 3 paragraphs about the immersive storytelling experience. Faggot

Only the multi billion dollar theme parks matter to these people. Even though most of the attractions are boring wastes of money. I recently did Epcot and only liked Guardians. It was fun but it doesn’t even use its IP properly. No animatronics. The rest of the park’s few rides (5? 7?) were all boring. Waited over an hour for the rat ride and it was a stupid boring simulator. Almost fell asleep on the soarin flying theater. The greenhouse boat ride was interesting but not exactly a AAA attraction. The spaceship earth ride was pure torture and a waste of a half hour of my life. The park is garbage. And basically all these parks are like this. Most of the good rides at universal are the kind you find at other parks like the coasters and drop tower and rapids. These billion dollar parks have too many boring dark rides. I like a good dark ride like the haunted mansion with all the little details everywhere but they don’t make rides like that anymore. Did Carowinds on the way home and last year we did Dollywood. Carowinds I got in free with my SF pass. Both were better than anything in Orlando
>>
>>
>>2874824
>You’re just reading a corporate changelog out loud
That's the point, retard.
Believe it or not, I'm not a 'Disney Adult', in any real sense, never even had their streaming subscription. I don't go to the parks unless I get free tickets, which as you might imagine, is quite rare.
This is merely a thing I do to document the fall of these once great cultural centers, and to help those who want to dance on it's rotting corpse figure out times to visit when the experience is at least passable.
Well, and to keep an eye on Tokyo, as this is an anime website, and wouldn't want to go when Space Mountain is closed. Never been over there, but might at some point.
I maintain a changelog here once a month because it's easy.
You should try it.

I literally had to Google that because I had no idea what you were talking about. No, I've never experienced Southpark-tier levels of sociopathy and idiocy in Disney or Universal because those most likely to act that way are fortunately priced out.
>>
>>
>>2874836
Never been but going off rcdb the coasters are mostly a bunch of vekoma clones like junior coasters, an SLC and a boomerang. However, they do have an RMC coaster which is probably worth going for alone. It’s a (former) Premier special, a little park they bought and made into a SF park. It gets a lot of attendance though so will probably be crowded.
>>
>>
>>
>>2874844
>Disneytards are literally excited about a mine train reopening
It's actually a tragedy.
You used to be able to ride BTM and the ride was so rough you could easily pass a kidney stone.
But with the retrack it's going to be smooth and that won't happen anymore.

The new Phantom Theater debuts next week when Kings Island opens for the season. Nobody here probably cares though because it’s not an Orlando park that charges $180+ for a days admission and it isn’t tied to some lame IP franchise or designed by some old gay hippy with a giant earring weighing down his ear
>>
Britbros does anyone else think Towers isn’t worth a visit anymore? Stale coasters, less rides, mostly over 60min waits, only other thing to do in the park is waste a fortune on prison tier food or scam games, closing at 6pm! (Feel sorry for the hotel guests)
>>
>>2874885
It's run down as fuck. The Toxicator is running with the water shut off and ugly banners over the water tanks. The operating hours are a joke. Wickerman is still great but it's 8 years old now. They should have had Project Horizon open but it was greater-crested-newted and then they didn't seem bothered to get the project moving again.
It seemed for a while they were doing good things at the park with a bigger focus on theming and less chasing of arbitrary world/European firsts but they've done nothing other than Ceebeebies. Next year is probably going to be a rushed David Walliams retheme.

Curious what the thread opinion is of the Gold Coast (Australia) parks are since I grew up nearby and would alternate getting a yearly pass each year since they both had shit I liked
To clarify I mean
>Dreamworld
>Whitewater world
>WB's Movie world
>Wet'N'Wild
>Seaworld
The waterparks were mostly IPslop free and the more extreme rides at Dreamworld were never IPshit, I don't know if that's changed since like 10 years ago now though.

Iron Gwazi is better but Steel Vengeance is better than IG. IG is paced well and throws a lot of elements at you and ends with a lot of speed still left. SV keeps going into its structure with airtime hills and barrel rolls. They’re both the best IMO, #1 and #2. I haven’t ridden Wildcat’s Revenge or ArieForce One but I have a feeling those two are also better than VC. VC is still a top 5-10 coaster worldwide. I personally think Fury 325 is better though. Also, front row on Top Thrill 2. That’s 4-6 coasters I think are better than VC. Also, if VC was plopped down on a field unthemed I think it would definitely lose a spot or two or more

Well I'm in Japan for a year on working holiday so I would be biased and tell you Japan despite loving what Australia used to be. The thing about Australia is it's so fucking huge and the good shit so far apart I think you'd struggle to feel satisfied with a week. I mean, Japan is ultra dense so you're also not going to feel satisfied that you've done 'it all' but it's the difference between a whirlwind of experiences in Japan since shit can be so close vs maybe one small pocket of Australia and most things being at a mandatory slow pace because the next interesting thing is miles away.
I mean if you want to go and binge theme parks back to back you can just go to the Gold Coast like I mentioned too.
If you want 'upside down Florida' then you will want Queensland though, possible north Qld, since that's where it actually gets tropical and rainforsted and mangroves and such. Hard to go wrong with Cairns -> coral reef day trip -> up to Kuranda on the cableway, down on the steam train (day trip) for the rainforest part. Has a few native wildlife enclosures in Kuranda (seperate admissions) that basically amounts to a mid tier zoo covering your Aussie staples. Hope you like hippie towns they're all like that up there.
That's like 2-3 days of activities though idk what else you would do up that way in Queensland I only passed by there briefly once on a cruise with family. Last thing you wanna be cramming in is domestic flights and shit too.
So yeah like I said for just a week I'd go Japan for density reasons, if you wanna see Aus then imo you gotta make it a road trip in a van or something, the country is so young and almost 'rootless' in some sense that the big draw is the nature unless you really wanna hear the same colonial settler town story or nativewanking for the nth time. Or yeah the theme parks I listed, the rides are more quality over quantity from what I looked up out of curiosity just before, muh hypercoasters and shit

What the did you just say, you little bitch?
I'll have you know I graduated top of my class at Full Sail, and I've been involved in numerous secret projects in Animal Kingdom, and I have over 300 confirmed hidden mickeys. I am trained in gorilla habitats and I'm the top imagineer in the entire Disney corporate complex. You are nothing to me but just another consoomer. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on Spaceship Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of r/disney mods across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your AP. You're fucking unalived, kid. I can be in any park, anytime, and I can height check you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in storytelling, but I have access to the entire human capital of the Walt Disney Corporation and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your twink ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn passhole. I will shit furries all over you and you will yiff in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

I wish somebody would buy them out of private equity hell. They keep making awful cost cutting decisions and they also wind up reversing some of them and costing them more in the end. Like this, they could have made a good film from the start. Universal is probably the only existing park operator that could both buy them and fix the bullshit but I doubt they have any interest.
>>
>>2875063
Not sure anyone could afford them that would want them. Merlin just posted a £50m loss with them only being kept afloat by Legoland and the kiddie sections of parks.
Universal would be competing with themselves, with the animals shows all but disappearing, there's no gap the park really fills. Especially if they decide to add another major coaster to their parks
>>
>>2875073
Yeah. Merlin would be a lateral move, if not a downgrade. Herschend doesn’t make sense. Cedar Flags has no money and I wouldn’t want them to anyways, the SeaWorld parks are supposed to be a step ahead of all of these. Or should be rather, they’re currently closer to Cedar Flags but they should be a higher tier of park chain closer to Universal and Disney which they were under Busch. I still think they can be, especially the Orlando properties. Just not under their current owners
>>
speaking of Merlin how is this possible for Alton Towers?
>2009
>2.65m visitors
>rarely get queues over an hour long
>2024
>2.35m visitors
>60-90 minute queues are the norm
screams incompetency in dropping visitor numbers in 15 years but how the hell are lines worse now? health and safety regulations made ride capacity drop drastically?
>>
>>2875090
Smiler accident, Covid, underinvestment thanks to those two. Then you have Planning permission issues delaying projects and the inability to make a convincing argument for Alton Towers to be a multi-day resort.
Transport links haven't improved which means it can be easier for a non-driving londoner to get to Disneyland Paris than Alton Towers.

Stardust is great but I think slightly overhyped. I have a few quibbles.
1. Why is the first launch actually two launches back to back? Why not just one long launch?
2. The near misses with the other train do a lot of the heavy lifting.
3. Speaking of which, only the inside seats get that close to the other train.
4. The stalls at the top of the hills seem unnecessary to me, especially in the front row where you don’t even get to enjoy getting whipped over the hill when the train finally starts moving again.
5. Why pale green?
>>

I rode CS recently and it struck me as a coaster from 2009 or so. Faded paint, bumpy and with multiple vertical loops, which we all decided were lame and boring around 2014. I was shocked to discover it was made in 2019. What was Mack thinking?

In-between the two launches is the maintenance bay. The gap you noticed is the detachable track piece that hauls the cars off to the side.
>>
>>2875235
I rode it a few days ago and thought it was amazing. Wasn’t bumpy at all. Great hang time on the vertical loops. They didn’t really have coasters like this in 2009, it’s not anything like a 2000s B&M with vertical loops. That’s why Universal went with an unknown when they made shit ride suckit, wasn’t a whole lot of options until the early 2010s when Mack started making big coasters and Vekoma stopped sucking (not to mention RMC emerging)

For some reason they think they have the right of way. I’ve seen them cut off kids and they’re almost always rude. Disney adults encourage everybody to use Disney transportation at WDW instead of wisely renting a car. Then they have to suffer through multiple bus loads of ECVs after a park closes because they prioritize them regardless of when they enter the queue (and they take up the entire bus).

I’m a lazy fucker who ate and drank WAY too much. If I can do it, so can you. Just start walking and then start lifting. Baby steps can turn into great strides

As a fellow Aussie, who last went about 7-8 years ago.
Dreamworld>Movie World>Wet''N'Wild>Sea World - Though I'd also say the only actually comparable ones are Dreamworld and Movie world, the others serve fairly different intentions.
Giant drop, Tower of terror combo is too fuckin good, let alone the other stuff.
I dont see anything wrong with IPslop if the rides are good and it gives the overall park an actual vibe. So movie world is also great IMO, Superman escape is fantastic, Green lantern is great and Scooby coaster is fun.
Seaworld at bottom, feel like I'd never visit a second time. Its basically an aquarium with a couple decent rides. Worth A visit, but not more.
Also I barely would consider Whitewater as its own, I literally don't know anyone who went to it specifically.

As another aussie who also has spent (more than) a year in Japan. I fully agree with his assessment. We have some very nice places, but its too spread out for a single week. Japan you can do a ton of stuff in tokyo with a couple day trips and have had an insane week.
One big thing to consider that the other guy didn't mention though. Your summer is our winter, but is Japans summer.
You would survive Japanese summer given Florida's is hot and muggy too, but Australia in winter does limit the amount of things to do a little. It would be the same as visiting florida in the winter, not pointless, but also kinda missing the main point.

I don’t think anybody would give a fuck about velocicoaster if it was cloned and unthemed in a parking lot at some remote regional park. The Jurassic park theming, the roll over the water and being in Orlando is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. There are people with world class coasters in regional parks in their back yards that never go to them and only ride roller coasters in Orlando theme parks

Agreed. It’s not River Adventure (when their animatronics actually work). When it comes to post-station theming it’s literally “that Dino park on the way to Busch Gardens on the side of the interstate” tier, if not worse. Actually, worse, bc at least a lot of those move

And before anybody says anything. Ride Phoenix Rising, then ride Penguin Trek, and come back to me. It’s 100% ride/ train specific and these guys are the same engineers that made Mako that is arguably one of the smoothest B&Ms ever made

Can we stop pretending their build quality was ever good? Their magnum opus had to close for months because a support cracked. Montu and Mako are the exceptions, not the rule.
And yes, Penguin Trek is arguably the most poorly built coaster in the world.

I really think its a good idea for parks to charge more money for admission, and I mean this for ALL parks.
Why, you may ask? Just look at how busy these places are now, and it makes buying priority/express/lightninglane the norm. Its a shit business model that only ruins the experience for everyone. Reduce capacity, increase gate costs.
an Alton Towers ticket cost £28 in 2005, adjust for inflation that is £51 in 2026. Actual 2026 ticket cost is £32.
I bet Universal GB will charge close to £100 for a day ticket when it opens in 2031
>>
>>2875544
We'll never know the true cause but if it was a manufacturing defect then that's the contractor's fault, not B&M's. It could have also been caused by ground settlement. A design flaw might be to blame but that possibility seems remote compared to those.
>>2875563
It's still possible to have a good day at parks without paying to line jump, just go on a weekday and avoid weekends and especially holidays around weekends. An exception might be Disney, but Disney adults should be punished so their crowds don't affect me.
>>
>>2875563
You pay £70 a ticket for Alton Towers for a 11am-4pm day and you're never coming back.
That said, Merlin need to really change how they do park food and merchandise, they're still behaving like it's the 90s. People want the Instagram friendly themed foods, the local delicacy that is difficult to get in most places and that they do really well etc. You can only get so much from T-shirts and Fridge magnets. People will smile from a novelty nemesis burger where the bun looks like the alien, you can charge £15 for it and people will be happy. Charge £15 for a burger van tier burger and they will be moody and stop spending.
>>
>>2875585
Towers desperately needs more entertainment shows and yeah the food is abhorrent. The same £9.75 beef hotdog costs £1.50 at Costco and comes with a refillable drink! Fair enough it doesn’t come with the view of a closed rollercoaster. I really want Towers to become a top tier park again but seems like Merlin just want it running on bare minimum until it’s dead
>>
>>2875588
The funny thing is, Ceebeebies is a massive success and they're just not learning from it. Themeing isn't Disney/Universal tier but it's still an immersive land with loads to do and it sells a load of shit to kids and parents. They're just not taking any lessons from it or for some reason have completely missed the whole "Disney adult" thing that shows that you target a wider audience in that way, they'll still open their wallets (maybe even spending more).
I guess we'll see if they learn their lesson from Minecraft land which is going to have a load of retail, novelty foods and immersive theming.

Reversing footage looks terrible and can be more noticeable than a cut. That said, they could probably use AI to pretty easily so a loopable transition. Wouldn't surprise me if there are some complex permission/royalties issue about any new footage of the actors preventing new transitions though.

You can't really blame them for being bitter. It's a parody track they did quickly as a B-side to get back at execs who wanted them to cash in on the current hot sub-genre.
Most of their stuff was always way too culturally British to make it in the US

The feeling of hitting a park up on a dead day and having the place to yourself is immaculate. I remember one time the weather was so shit at islands almost everyone left and I did Hagrid's 10 times in a row with 8 of those being front row. Shit was so cash.

Penguin Trek is fine. You guys are big babies. I went on the infamous rough jackhammering Mine Blower a couple weeks ago and it was completely fine yet thoosies keep whining about how rough it still is even after the steel track. You guys have no idea what a rough coaster even is.

If you mean velocicoaster, there's 4 raptor statues you sweep past and they hiss and roar at you. Coaster themeing is always gonna be less detailed because you go past the elements so fast. Even on The Mummy you cant really make out detail on the underworld ghosts cause you sweep past them so quick. It doesnt make sense to have serious themeing

Opens 20th May this year. Don't blame them too much, No one wants to ride it when it's cold (Blackpool gets really cold and windy in winter and early spring). Still no news on the River Caves re-opening but they've said they're going to add new scenes to it (and also possibly using the ride to host a horror maze)
Hoping the mini indoor park near Blackpool Tower gets build. More indoor attractions to help give the town more to do in shitty weather would be great.

I'm sorry but there is no fucking way that's what this system is for and everyone speculating this isn't thinking clearly. Most likely it's to cut off access to certain portals for private events and corporate rent-outs. There's so many reasons doing an open hub would be idiotic.
1. Celestial has 1/20th the entertainment and dining options of City Walk. It's also tiny as shit compared to it. Who the fuck would want to go to Celestial just for Celestial? City Walk has way more to do for the same parking fee.
2. There's two rides in celestial that park guests pay for. How are you going to manage access to those rides if the general public is allowed in? It's just adding hassle.
3. Crowding in the portals is already a huge fucking problem. Celestial is supposed to be less crowded to alleviate that feeling. If you put the general public in celestial, there's no escape from the crowds.
4. Celestial is themed which means it cant just become CityWalk 2.0. The theme is too heavy so every restaurant they'd want to add would have to be narrowly shaped down to meet the existing theme. Starbucks barely pulled it off.
5. Having the portals be checkpoints you might have to wait in a line to access totally kills the free traversal concept. Visually having pylons in the middle of the path looks gross too.
I really think it's just so they can limit access to portals for corporate events like they have at the other parks. Big source of income for them.
Long term I think the move is to build an indoor 5th park like what was announced in India and have Citywalk 2.0 be part of that like a sort of mall. It gives them a place to put Horror Unleashed Orlando, too.
>>2875892
Extremely fucking grim. Express is the worst thing that ever happened to the theme park industry.

>>2875852
>Then why the fuck did you post the single rider queue on the Hagrid castle?
There's a lot more in that photo than the single rider queue. I posted it because it looks like shit, a trope which was brought to Harry Potter by Cuaron.

Unrelenting shareholder value-maxxing is the enemy, regardless of who does it. Lightning Lane originated with Disney and metastasized to Universal.
And that's not what I meant. They arent selling them piecemeal to corps. At Islands and Studios they will, usually on weekdays, close the parks an hour early and allow corporations and other organizations to rent the place out for hundreds of thousands for a few hours at night with catered food. They typically give glowing wristbands to people on the guest list so park staff know they are allowed to stay after the park closes. I'm assuming the Epic system is just a version of that.
My only hesitation in doubting this is Alecia Stella being adamant that the open hub concept plan is happening. Unless they plan to dramatically change celestial, it just seems like it's gonna create really ugly problems. Park management seems a bit delusional with their vision for the park. These people think 40k people can fit in Epic without every line being 5 hours long. The park feels smothering with just 25k.

>I posted it because it looks like shit,
It's a cherrypicked barren corner in an otherwise highly detailed queue that was retrofit from a Merlin ride. I stand by my previous comment that you are an idiot.
