If you look up @robkroese on Twitter, he's gone to Colombia a few times. His latest adventure there looked pretty good. I forget the name of the town, though, and I'm not going to doomscroll through five months of tweets to find it for you tonight; you'll have to do it yourself. Nice comfy coastal town with lots of seafood restaurants and ocean recreational stuff.

I like Bogota and Medellin. I don't speak any Spanish. The cities are shitholes but the landscape is incredible. I usually end up getting an apartment for a month or two, having rappi monkeys deliver my food, and working in a cozy airbnb with a view.

I found Kroese's idyllic little seaside place, BTW. It's called Taganga. Apparently it's a party town for the backpacker crowd.

The Caribbean coast cities and towns are such dilapidated shitholes full of sketchy characters, overcharging, and no-go slums. Guajira is one of the shittiest parts of South America, but foreign tourists still flock there. And the sex appeal of those dark brown Caribbean girls cannot be understated. They give white guys bold looks like "hey gringo come get some...if you dare". Scowling brothers and cousins lurking nearby of course.

Personally I preferred the mild climate of the Andean highlands, with low prices for lodging and a lack of beach bum gringo tourists. I cut my Caribbean trip short to return to the highlands, cancelling some reservations and even walking out on a five-night hostel stay in Cartagena only three nights in.

Taganga National Park is more pristine, but it's also a giant ripoff. Meme leaning palm trees over a jungle beach with muh sand and waves. European backpackers paying double price for everything. That being said, the rich Euro beach girls are more slender than Colombian fatties and often walk around hostels wearing little clothing. So you do get eye candy on a regular basis, and you definitely have a good chance of getting laid if you look good in swimming trunks and know how to have a good time when the sun goes down.

Second for Cartagena being ass. Spent one night there and that was enough. We bussed to Parque Tayrona and it was very tourist but not a dump, I had fun there staying at one of the eco hostels. If I ever went to that part of Colombia again ( probably not) I'd just fly in and out of Santa Marta.

Does Colombia have donkey shows? Dog would also be acceptable.
