There's something I've been thinking about lately. Do you think how scary a horror film is matters more than anything else and do you feel the same with comedies being funny? Maybe I'm just the weird one but I love the original Home Alone and rewatch it every Christmas but I've never really found it all that funny even as a kid but I still love the film and think it's kino. Same with other allegedly super funny comedies like Superbad or The Hangover or Frasier or Seinfeld sure I chuckle sometimes but I can count the amount of times I've legit lol'd between all 4 of them on one hand despite the length of the average TV sitcom I just think they're comfy and watch them for the characters and acting more than anything.
I have a much easier time loling if I watch a funny movie in the company of other people which has less to do with the contents of the films themselves and more to do with getting caught up in the general mood and social atmosphere of your immediate surroundings. I feel the same way with horror films I just really appreciate the craft, aesthetics, dark themes, tension, suspense and atmosphere behind the good ones and getting scared is a nice bonus just like laughing heartily at a comedy but it doesn't really matter that much to me desu as long as I'm entertained.
The horror films I would consider legit 10/10s are not very scary neither are the 10/10 comedies all that funny. I feel the same with thrillers I'm very rarely at the edge of my seat but suspense is still a great narrative tool to create entertaining stories with.

Ah yeah, I've accounted for those already. The villain was indeed freakish,
and persuasive if that makes any sense, like the Djinn from Wishmaster.
I would say the budget was less than Wishmaster's, but we're going off a child's memory.
>>219768870
I didn't even think of that. Reminded me to grab Nightmares with that "Emilio Estevez gets trapped in an arcade game" story.
>>
>>
>>219774985
I guess it's a mix.
The Blair Witch Project scared the shit out of me and it's one of my favs. Alien didn't, but it's giga kino because of the design of everything. The Evil Dead isn't very scary, but has great characters, some comedy, a mix of everything.
So I guess as long as a film has something going for it.
>>
>>
>>219775075
Yes, I felt it had a lot potential but it was well done enough to be enjoyable.
>>219775109
Yeap, his eye is on the mockumentary stuff, the regular film parts are well done but you just want more of creepy VHS little horror stories. I also think he improved his effects/CGI scenes, the only one that looked bad for a moment was the last one but then I realized it was supposed to be jarring.

Just saw the most /reddit/ horror movie of all time, name is Butchers Book Two: Raghorn
(Spoilers)
>the bad guys are sadistic, women haters, cannibals, viles motherfuckers but they respect trans women
>the sadistic bad guy does a castration in 4k on the only rational guy in the movie, they show everything in a close-up
>the kidnapped girl end up being a skinny, skeleton face, long hair but also balding, trans guy (the only character that survived)
>every character (beside the castrated guy) is a piece of shit
>every character is killed in a very gory way but the trans guy, who escape harmless

Just finished. Man, Samara Weaving loves being in violent movies, huh? What a weird group of people behind this one: Jorma Taccome from Lonely Island, Tommy Wirkola from Dead Snow, and David Leitch from the John Wick movies. It's mostly a post-Tarantino quirky crime comedy, except that the violence eventually gets ratched up to a level that makes me feel comfortable putting this in the horror pile. Basic premise is a couple goes to their lake houseand discover each was planning to murder the other. Things escalate then halfway through they find out three escaped convicts have been hiding in the house the whole time!. A lot of fun and Samara's at her best here, getting to use her natural accent.

My only problem with the horror fanbase, and it's not uncommon in other fanbases, is that there's many people who are more fans of being horror fans than they are fans of horror. It becomes their identity to the point where the actual movies become secondary.

>The idea of a maze in a house
"Dave Made a Maze" makes fun of the idea. The maze is a bunch of taped together cardboard boxes in a kitchen. "But it looks bigger from the inside". Dave and a bunch of friends literally get lost inside the maze. It's absurd and logically it makes no sense - the maze defies the laws of physics. But still I found it fun to watch.

Just finished. I'd already seen Oddity but not this and wanted to be ready for Hokum. The camerawork is excellent, lots of beautiful composition without being flashy. Likewise the lead actor is perfect, he has a look like you should be seeing him in a lot more stuff but he has less than five credits. I honestly don't think I understood everything. A fascinating watch anyway.

I just hate all the obnoxious gatekeeping within the fandom. It's bad enough when people who aren't into horror at all have to jump through all these mental hoops because they can't just admit this movie they happen to like is from a genre they normally hate, but there's seemingly no movie you can bring up that won't get the obligatory "not horror" on social media and of course they never elaborate like the pseuds they are. I've seen someone unironically say they didn't consider The Exorcist horror, a movie that's literally famous for being scary.
I don't even necessarily agree with every horror movie being labeled horror myself though I tend to have a pretty open mind about that sort of stuff. Horror has always been a very diverse genre just as vast as all the many, many different things we can fear in our daily lives. It's not all just two hours of watching people getting stabbed to death with a knife all the time.
>>
>>
>>219785682
Gatekeeping is rampant within these threads, the "banned" movies listed gets posted every outing. And most of the movies I post about watching I call "not horror" too, less because I think they don't fit within the genre than because I know how narrowly defined it is for lots of people and how annoyed they get being recommended "horror" that they don't approve of.
>>
The episode Chocolate in Masters of Horror is one of the most unintentionally funny things I've ever seen. The main character basically starts to see and feel everything an unknown person feels, and in one scene he wakes up to the point of view of this woman getting fucked by someone and he lies helplessly on the bed and feels every thrust while his family walks in on him shaking in bed.

Yet another 80's horror parody I never heard of. This one's really more of a scifi crime dark comedy with some vaguely horror elements but you can see the kind of 50's-60's movies they're making fun of. The guy playing the "creature" looks too much like an extra-fat Tor Johnson for it to be a coincidence. Overall fairly stupid but had some fun bits. Ron silver looks weird without his signature beard.

Kind of a random question but I thought this could be a good enough place to ask
I noticed Final Destination 4 has been on the top 10 most watched movies list on my country's HBO Max. I don't think ive seen any of the other FD movies in there since the last installment released last year. I figured its got to do with the platform's algorithm but it irks me to see it upfront everyday knowing its probably the worst one in the franchise and has no replay value in it to speak of. Any ideas?
>>
>>
>>
>>219791507
Maybe some countries have a peculiar taste? Maybe movies that would be outsiders elsewhere move to the top in countries that don't have many streaming subscribers? Maybe it also has to do with what movies are available in your countries language. (Although I would expect many movies to be available in Spanish, as it is one of the most spoken languages in the Western hemisphere, together with English, French and German.)
>>
>>
>>
>>219791876
the entire franchise is available for streaming on there, has been for ages. as far as I know FD4 isnt particularly well regarded among Spanish fans of the movies. Idk I guess im being too autistic about it
>>219791885

2002, I was just some little shit kid. Getting spinkicked in the face and piled on by an army of dudes 3 times my size was not something I was prepared for. No homo.
Still love Hatebreed though. At last the first two albums. Maybe 3

>Gatekeeping
idk are you sure you're not taking shit too personally.
Like if I say jellyfish aren't a fish, they're actually plankton, that isn't "gatekeeping". That's just how people have agreed jellyfish should be categorized.

Don Mancini is back directing another full length Chucky film that will be headed to theaters.
guessing the tv show drummed up new life and funding. no clue if Brad Dourif will voice him, they might be looking to the future and get someone else.

Trying to continue watching this piece of shit. Awesome poster aside this might be the worst Stephen King adaption I've ever seen. I love it.
>>
Talking about Chucky, the other day I was scrolling and came across a scene from a movie/show where Fiona Dourif was bending over and her thong was riding up her ass crazy deep
I was so tired I didn't save it, does anyone know where it's from?

It's supposedly loosely connected to other Osgood Perkins films so a direct follow up was inevitable. There was a Marketing ARG for Longlegs that explains more about it so clearly he has more for the concept than just what was shown in the film. Horror sequels are never as good as their originals, but it can't be helped.

>Insidious
That old lady is immortal, it's funny how they keep coming with ways to bring her back since she's the superhero/Allmighty of the franchise. The blondie reminds me of Heather Grahamm which is beyond good.
>Colony
This director always make fun movies, like kids back them used to say: HYPED
>Salmokji
50/50 on this. Trailer looks meh, hope the movie is better.
>Ice Cream Man
Not my type of horror, but it seems fun for those who enjoy these movies.

>Rose Red
That was some 20 years ago.
I also remember it being weak.
Not as weak as this fucking this was though. This might be the first King adaption that I really just hate.
It's just a bunch of the corniest fucking faggot cosplayers doing fuck knows what and no one cares

I fucking love Rose Red, its goofy but the cast is perfect and I even read the novelization thats ghost-written? in king-style and strongly implies horse bestiality.

I've read the synopsis online and it seemed kinds boring so i didnt watch it.
>Longlegs cab mindcontrol.people.bc the devil.gave him powers
>No one can really do anything to stop him
No staked desu. Seems like he just goes around and miseryporn murders people indirectly.

My brother and I watched it when it was new. It was alright, I mostly remember a moment at the end where someone does something he should know not to do. But, I guess that happens in all of these movies.
