Did boomers really spend hours after work getting drunk with strangers instead of being home with their wife and kids?
>>
>>219790909
I wish there was a local bar I could hang out at after work. They're all sports bars though. Why does every fucking bar have to be a sports bar? Not that it matters because there's never anyone under 50 anyways.
>>
>>219791006
Their collective lead poisoning had them living for themselves alone. It's a miracle any of them could tolerate one another long enough to have any children.
>>
>>219791073
You can take a sports bar that's filled with NPC drones, a dive bar filled with junkies and sad alcoholics, or a "barcade" filled with millenial bugmen.
>>
>>219790909
That'll be nice if it wasn't because my local bar wants to charge $15 per beer
>>
>drink three beers
>feel like shit the next morning
No idea how they did it
>>
>>219791073
Country Club Bar always seemed like the only variety worth a damn because you might be able to rub elbows with someone who could benefit your professional life. Aside from that the onky bar I went to regularly was a craft beer joint across the street from my house with a 12.5% stout that was pretty good. Stopped going when it got bought out by some jeet who fired the entire staff and replaced them with his own illegal workers.
>>
>>219791006
alcoholics do this since forever

Genetics but there's also a lot more that has to do with it, depends on how healthy you are and your diet and so on
I've been able to tank an absurd amount of booze and get up the next morning and spring out of bed just fine

Men being able to meet, engage with, and form relationships with other men in their community is in fact...good! We used to call this civil society and it afforded you the ability to connect with other men interested in broader things in society beyond your family. We even had entire clubs like Elks, Lions, Freemasons, Knights of Columbus, and various private gentleman's clubs that were centered around drinking where you could join, network with other men in your community, engage in community service, etc. They were only open to men and the conversations you had in them weren't ones you'd care to have or even want to have your wife and children involved in.

No, they had one day a week they'd do this. Wednesday was a really popular bar night. Friday and saturday would be busy nights with younger people. Mondays were only for the most depressed pathetic people. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday were wildcard days.
>>
>>219791799
The collective "we", society. You're dodging the content of my post because you really don't have anything of substance to say beyond this little temper tantrum. I'm sorry the daddy was not as present in your life 20 years ago as you would have liked, but you should probably get over it and grow up.

The biggest upside of being able to meet people like this was that you would be rubbing shoulders with people you normally wouldn't ever talk to. People outside of your circle of friends involved in things nobody you know is involved with, guys much older than you who could possibly help you professionally, guys much younger than you with a completely different perspective. I shouldn't have to explain to you the utility of this.

TV shows lied to me that this is a normal and comfy way to spend your free time in the evenings

Even if oyu have that local pub where somehow all your friends gather every single day, you gotta be a millionaire to spend all the money in a fucking bar where a beer is 5 euros and a small whiskey 10, at best
>>
>>219794721
it's not that expensive in most of the world, europe just traded having an economy for being a retirement home, and then also stacked taxes on everything that makes life worth living

>>219790909
The thought of constantly going to a bar to drink makes no sense to me.
I live in australia, a single drink at a bar here costs a fucking shitload. It's just not possible for you to be able to afford to drink out like that all the time.
>>
>>219791006
No, they went out with friends, moron.
Local pubs were another thing, because a lot of the regulars there would be people from the neighborhood, so there'd always be people you knew there.

The show came out in 1982... at the time a bartender with no college degree could earn around $20k per year, inflation adjusted that's $70k per year today... But not just that, the median home value in 1982 was $69k, so a bartender with no degree could own a home easily.

So you have a bunch of boomers doing stupid, easy jobs, getting paid tons of money where even the simplest workers can afford their own home, and everybody is having sex and getting married and having kids because they're all socialized and living pre internet.

And what did the boomers do with this unprecedented level of comfort and social mobility in human history? They got drunk every day, shirked spending time with their families to hang out at bars and fuck around, and spent the rest of their miserable lives voting to pull the ladder up for their children's generation.

Boomers are sickening.
>>
>>219796486
Pretty much. To be fair though, gen X were useless and just sat by, never trying to take control from the boomers, and gen Y were beyond lazy to ever do anything - thanks to being raised by boomers.

It was always Thursday in the UK.

Monday was depressing alcoholics
Tuesday was executives and tradesmen (or students if it's that kind of bar)
Wednesday was karaoke and live music
Thursday was regulars and work drinks
Friday was dickheads getting into fights
Saturday was groups of young people and dates
Sunday was the A* crowd who didn't give a toss about their job

My dad would go out on a Thursday to the local and when I first got a proper job I soon learnt to stay out late on Thursdays with the managers to learn how to actually do my job. The problem is that over time the good crowd moved to other hangouts leaving the people who would just cause drama (and push away anyone good left) then Covid killed it all off.

My grandpa would stop at his local bar and have two beers after work everyday. I never saw him drunk, he was around all the time for his six kids and 18 grandkids, lived until he was 87 and the doctor said he had the liver of a 20 year old when he died. His heart attacked him, but his liver was great. Most men used to have drinks after work everyday, like a couple glasses of scotch or a few beers, while they read the evening paper and shit like that. Not being allowed to touch alcohol (probably because your shrew wife got feminazi'd into thinking sipping a beer makes a man an abusive alcoholic) is a fairly new thing.

apartments and homes were dirt cheap in the 70s. it would be the equivalent of paying $200 a month today. with all that extra cash, boomers would just hang in bars and restaurants every day. in the summer they would go vacation in europe, and in the winter they would go on cruises or to the bahamas. you have no idea what has been taken from you.

All of this was really set into motion by WW2. If women had never been allowed to work when the men went off to war, the feminism shit never would've happened, wages would have continued to rise normally, and society would be healthy.

I'll go on making $80k a year in restaurants basically working part time, and having sex with chicks I meet at the bar, while I pursue passion projects in my free time, while you go on being a closeted gay boy and projecting it onto others online.

Before the 1990s television sucked, the country was still mostly white, we weren't flooded with crazy weirdos, and you could get absolutely smashed in a bar for a half a day's minimum wage.

Imagine the kinds of people you like socializing with and the kind of past times you like engaging with. Now imagine there was a place where you could go hang out for as long as you wanted that had everything you wanted there from good company to fun entertainment to inexpensive treats. Imagine there were no druggies or foreigners in there. You'd absolutely go hang out there as much as possible.
>>
>>219806071
>>219806165
No I think what is actually obvious is that anon got hit on by a gay guy at some point in time,l at a restaurant, perhaps by a gay server or bartender, maybe had his shoulder or back rubbed by him in a moment of flirting, and instead of calmly but firmly explaining to the gay man he isn't interested and won't tolerate that behaviour, he cowered and tried to play it cool and laugh it off but deep down felt violated, and ever since lashes out at anons on line who bear or express and assocition with restaurants. Because just saying 'haha just joking bro' about some obnoxious gay shit just isn't funny and is frankly weird as fuck.
>>
>>219806285
I'm the original Anon and I think it was pretty obvious I was breaking your balls and joking around and you probably have autism. Also didn't read all of that because calm the fuck down, are you actually a closeted fag and I hit a nerve or something? Goddamn nigger learn to take a joke if not.
>>
>>219806282
>you could get absolutely smashed in a bar for a half a day's minimum wage.
Ehh idk where you lived but as a 48 year old boomer that just ain't true, I grew up in a small beach town where shit was dirt cheap and happy hour was the only real cheap time for beer, and it was canned beer, tap was always more just like today. speaking of today you can go into pretty much any old dive anywhere in the country and get like 6 PBR's (cans) or Raniers or whatever cheap local beer you got for under $20 and walk out pretty drunk if you haven't eaten anything. And some places minimum wage is $20 an hour now. If you want draft it'll cost you but canned shit ain't nothing today at most dives.
>>
>>219806285

I'd even take my books in and study while I drank if it was during the day. Either your bar sucked and their prices were insane or you didn't know what you were doing. In the US trends vary a lot by region. Some of this is accurate for certain parts of the US. Bars in cities can always be busy. Constant people meeting up after work this day and such. Many bars now also do food or have food trucks so they're packed for that too.

no no no, watch the show you guys if you're going to comment on it, in the first season the draft beers are $1.25 but Sam does raise the price a couple of times over the years so by the last season I think they're like 2 bucks each, they do supposedly have 75 cent drafts on Fridays according to a sign in the pool room but they never mention this

Agreed. The first one where he plays the bartender and threatens to jam a swizzle stick up deuces peehole is basically the only part of that movie I remember other than THAT'S A BIG BITCH.

I have watched the show at least five times all the way through, and I swear they said Norm was getting his beers for between 5 and 25 cents at first in an episode, then Sam made them $1. That's why Norm's way overdue tab was $400 when Sam asked him to pay it and he said he drank at least 10 beers a day, not counting rounds bought by Cliffy and the others. Do I have dementia? Holy fuck I am old.

A quick Google search shows that is wrong. Maybe you should actually watch the show.

Yep. $1 a mug at the time the tab thing came up. I just watched that episode like two hours ago so I have no idea what >>219807154 is talking about.

Nowadays, they just drink alone and gamble on their phone

I watched Deuce 1 and "The Animal" recently and I was surprised to find that they are like almost exactly the same movie on paper except Deuce was surprisingly watchable and the Animal was totally flat and unfunny.
The girl in it is such a 2000s qt tho

She's cute as fuck. Real fun related story: I'm one of those people that can't handle weed as it makes me turbo paranoid, but I let my gf at the time's stoner brother talk me into smoking a bowl with him "so he didn't have to get high alone" before we watched The Animal at her house. I remember nothing about it and I spent the entire movie either sitting in her recliner wondering if I was laughing or supposed to laugh or getting up and staring out the window wanting the "high" to end. Fucking nightmare.

Had to watch this a couple of times to find where his eyes should be

>Let’s get drunk after work.

They had friends they saw every day. Surely you see how that's superior to the world we live in now.

Pot does that to me too. I hate it and on paper I should be the poster boy for using it medicinally. My doctor even offered me a medical card so I could get it for free with my insurance and I just said nope. People tell me I must have done the wrong strains or whatever but after half a dozen bad experiences I think I'll stick to having a few beers when I want to relax.

Speak for yourself dude. Why don't you ever go see your friends?
