I don't even know what "good good" means. Mandalorian and Grogu is an American film, and it doesn't even approach "good good" (whatever that means). Trains to Busan is a GOOD movie.

Because Japanese movies fell off a cliff. They were great in the days of Ozu and Kurosawa, but the film industry there has languished with nothing but the worst slop that you can imagine. The Koreans have completely taken over in terms of film skill. There's still some good stuff here and there, but people there work like Takashi Miike and churn out slop yearly instead of honing their craft and taking their time

The Kino That /tv/ Missed

They aren't.
Korean cinema(and now television) is basically Hollywood 2. It's all edgy fedora dog shit. It gives plebs the ability to say they've seen foreign media and allows them to keep the same type of enjoyment they get from Hollywood blockbusters.

Oldboy is an adaptation of a manga.
Koreas film renaissance which happened in the late 90s lasted til the end of the 2000's.
It consisted mostly of gritty crime dramas heavily influenced by american cinema of the 70s, 80s and 90.
Once they finished copying all those movies, they completely ran out of ideas and out of steam.
Their film industry is pretty rubbish these days, and their TV is as bad as modern anime.

>Sympathy for mr vengeance
Atrocious movie.
Oldboy is ok but Lady Vengeance is the best of the trilogy hands down.
>>219797947
Yep. That's typical of anime/manga. High concept premises that fall off a cliff due to poor writing.

I didn't even know.
desu I was just listing the ones I remembered.
MoM is one of my fav movies, top 5 but the rest are just movies I remembered that were korean.
A few years ago I went on a korean movie mission. Asked here for all the good korean movies too and found loads and lots were really good.
i would have only watched them after seeing trailers and reading synopsis to see if the movies were types I would watch so there is probably a lot that are great that I would not watch.

Generally I only remember movies I found great.
I watched both mr and lady vengeance but cant remember either.
I watched the witch movies, pt1 and 2, cant remember them other that I did watch them.
Handmaiden is great, though its got lots of lesbo shit in it so if you are not a coomer it might not be good.
Still its subversive as it looks like a period drama but is actually a caper movie.
