Meh, even a new movie from James Wan will have woke casting. The age of mainstream horror without woke is over.
Imagine Insidious 1 or Conjuring 1-2 or Sininster with blacks.

Watched the 2021 Candyman recently and it's worse than I thought it would be. There isn't even an actual Candyman in it, they just use the name to represent the vengeful spirit of all black people in history who were killed by white people.

I genuinely rate it lower than part 2 and 3, which at least have that straight-to-video charm and some interesting settings and visuals

To be fair, the sassy black friend is the best part of Insidious 5.

Reminder that Jim Crow laws weren't explicitly racial. They were laws like "you have to be able to read in order to vote" which coincidentally had more of, but not an exclusive effect, on black people

>>
>>219799404
The first one is kino but the remake just trips over itself. It's a neurotic film, too busy trying to jab the viewer with racial angles without saying much about them. Or, the first one is a slasher with themes and setting about the inner city, whereas the remake feels the other way around. The slasher parts feel obligatory.

There's an old myth in parts of the South that slaves would be covered in honey or jam to attract flies and other insects during garden parties so they wouldn't bother the guests. I just don't see the point of an Evil Dead movie not directed by Sam Raimi. ED is already so influential and has already been so copied that a sequel by a random director just feels like a totally unrelated film, not something to hype as "the new Evil Dead!" like it has any substantial relation to the original trilogy
>>
>>219807164
Sure but these are directly related to Evil Dead
>>
>>219807236
>directly related
In name only. Demon possession and a necronomicon is not all I associate with the Evil Dead movies. With new casts of characters and new directors with their own styles, it becomes something you have to judge entirely on its own, not something you can expect a certain style and quality from. It's a whole new group of people making it. It's not the same as Sam Raimi announcing his own Evil Dead 4 with Bruce Campbell, which is the heart and soul of the franchise

I watched "Rapture-Palooza" yesterday. It's really more of a comedy than a horror movie, but there's wraiths, it's raining blood, there's a plague of locusts and there's a zombie trying to mow his lawn. The movie is about locking up the Antichrist, which turns out to be a black mayoral candidate from Idaho. It's fun in a quirky sort of way.

>The slasher crossover film Freddy vs. Jason (2003) also inspired Miramax to want to create a Candyman vs. Hellraiser crossover, but Clive Barker, originator of both franchises, had recommended against it.[6] A crossover with the Leprechaun film series was also considered, but Tony Todd immediately flat out refused to participate in such a project, saying he had too much respect for his character to see him used for such a purpose.[7]

Escape from Tribeca announced their line-up: https://tribecafilm.com/festival/film/escape-from-tribeca

Breeder
>An eccentric poodle breeder lures a broke college student to her remote ranch with a promise of research funding. But, as he soon learns, there’s a catch.

Dante
>Responding to an emergency call, a young paramedic unwittingly finds himself thrust into the middle of a war between two crime lords, triggering an escalating series of gruesome twists and turns over the course of one crazy night.

Mutter: The Diary of a Mother
>Under traumatic circumstances, Gül gives birth to her first child: an inhuman creature. What’s a single mother to do? Protect her newborn, albeit alien-like, offspring by any means necessary, of course.

Recluse
>After being summoned back to her childhood home to care for her bedridden father, Joan must confront the unearthed demons of her family’s past and contend with the home’s dark, malevolent energy that is both unseen and, much to her horror, seen.

Turn It Up!
>An indie rock band struggling to make its mark finds a possible meal ticket in an infectious new guitar riff. Unfortunately, it’s also a cursed melody that just so happens to open a portal to another, much scarier dimension.

Yeah, the idea of marrying and reproducing was not political when this movie came out. Nobody would have taken its meaning as other than what you said. People can't stop looking at the past through a modern view and see things in the actual context of when it was made.

I think modern people are so poor and so much poorer than they once were, they don’t want to see “marry and reproduce” as “get married to one woman and spend the rest of you life with her while working and have a kid that will be the next in line to serve us.” They pretend to not understand it.
