Why is this show not more popular? Is it too smart for the average audience?

I actually binged it yesterday after randomly seeing it while scrolling and was so surprised it wasn't more popular, didn't even know it's based on a chinese book and had a chinese show.
Is the chink one actually good? I thought the netflix show was really good already

I like it because hard sci fi and I get the amalgamated the novels characters but on rewatches, and I have rewatched it quite a few times, most of the screen time of these characters are shit.
Fat retard is comedic relief, his entire character could be removed and nothing would be out of place.
The whiny cuck beta is annoying as fuck. i know they were setting him up as a brain in a jar for the future but his entire character was a fucking waste of time and they spent shit loads on him. That is like skipping near entire episodes.
The negro stoner only because even slightly important as a character on the last episode, and again only as set up for the next series.
Edgy whingey latina was only useful to the plot for the first few episodes, could have got rid of her after.
Bug girl was the most essential to the plot but fucking why they got a new zeland bug is beyond retarded.
Only real good characters were the MI5 guys.
Season 2 is supposed to drop sometime this year.
>>
>>
>>219813748
For me the lead was the asian girl, not that she was an interesting character. Only good ones were the asian cop and white old guy leader.
Most annoying one was definitely Saul(black guy), this retard was almost killed 2 times and was still like I DON'T WANT TO BE A WALLFACER PROTECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT I'M USELESS. How the fuck is this retard considered smart
>>
>>219813709
I have not watched the chinese series but it is 30 episodes so you already know the story beats and it will just pad it out for dramatic effect.
The netflix show rightfully condensed the story, amalgamated all the characters down to the 5 and also started beats for the 2nd and 3rd book.
Story goes absolute bonkers though. I am interested on how they will do it as a lot of these characters end up cryo frozen and in the future.

>>

>>
>>
>>219813853
Its really retarded I just hit their characters in a nutshell.
They all had minor plot beats that pushed the plot along but then they should have just left the characters alone.
They kept trying to add bullshit drama into it for no reason.
Like the latina crying she helped kill people and the military is bad.
Why...how did that move the story along at all.
>>
>>
>>219813885
No its just the literal 1st book, 3 body problem.
like this anon said>>219813879
They will be going into micro drama even more than the netflix shit.
There are loads more characters of course too. The "oxford 5" are amalgamations.
Like I said the netflix series started on the plot beats of the 2nd and 3rd book. I dont think the chinese version does that at all, but it does show you the aliens. I seen it in a webm, coincidentally its why I watched this TV show to begin with.
I thought a 30 episode series is too much so I just watched the netflix version.
>>
>>
>>219813966
Okay..then why the fuck is everyone recommending the chink show if I already watched the Netflix one, I'm watching it for the story beats and if I know what's gonna happen then what's the point.
Damn do I really need to buy the books, I found the story so interesting I don't know how I didn't stumble upon it earlier

The sante are like luminous jellyfish, their thoughts and emotions etc are visible. they cant lie because they cant as they can see each others thoughts. They are like a hive mind.
Evolution would dictate that and the concept of lying would be alien to them just as if the concept of being able to see each others thoughts are alien to us.
>>219814011
Like the faggots who keep posting the girl boss webm in the 1st episode, or the retards posting above they like to pretend that this netflix show is shit DEI girlboss crap and the CCP tier bug show is better.
As you would probably gathered that simple 1 girlboss "I am a PHD graduate" etc convo they had in the first 30 secs of the 1st episode and then the story starts 10 seconds later just saved you (us) having to watch 6 episodes of character development, like 6 fucking hours of bullshit that doesn't matter. Yet the retards post that webm to "prove" the netflix show is...woke or some shit like that.
Chink show of course is gonna be introducing you to like 50 different characters all with character development.
Which most likely will all look the same anyway and you will forget about them all as they are all bugs.
That girlboss convo was a necessary evil to avoid that shit.
As for the story, you dont need to read the books. I have not, I just read the synopsis on wiki. Its a cool concept and I would especially like to see how they could do the endings of the 3rd book (different dimensions) in live action.
Its actually something pantheon did but that is animation.
I think pantheon was inspired by 3 body problem trilogy to some degree.
If you like 3 body problem as a hard sci fi concept, you will like pantheon too. Assuming you can handle "anime" (western animation, not real anime but looks like anime)
I like hard sci fi and like project hail mary its the concepts that fascinate me.
The 3 body trilogy has some top tier hard sci fi concepts that are unique no other show or movie has done before.

Shit I just checked the wiki for it
>Liu is well known for his short story "The Paper Menagerie", his Dandelion Dynasty fantasy novel series, and his translation of Cixin Liu's novel The Three-Body Problem and its sequels. For a more comprehensive list of Liu's works, see the linked bibliography page.
I didnt even realize.
So he is american chink, translated the 3 body problem then write pantheon...clearly inspired by it.

>entirely fake creation of an alternate world depicting falsehoods constantly
>not lying
the writing show they could not even understand the concept of a story thats not real. yet here they are developing AI worlds to play games with
>>219814212
>intelligence
>not understanding something not being true
even basic science requires you to compare results as results can be wrong and requires trial and error
once again
>muh hive mind that totally explains it
no it really doesn't
like i said, its just something someone thought sounded smart and cool but is dumb as fuck
hate psuedo intellectuals who flock to this slop. go jump into your alternate reality bubble and whatever the fuck else the show turns into eventually . interesting premise, but everything after that is dog shit
>>
>>219814312
I think the latter parts of the story felt a bit rushed.
Originally it started off as a semi conspiracy theory but them it went a bit bonkers and turned into superhero type shit and eventually went bonkers into some digital utopia and lastly some dimensional paradox.
Its clear the writer was just flinging shit at the wall and hoping it sticks but like I just found out he was obviously clearly inspired by 3 body problem, which also has shit loads of intertwining concepts that just goes bonkers.
Seeing 3BP and that the AYYYs are coming you would think that is gonna lead into military war but it doesn't it leads into the dark forest concept a stalemate nobody wins situation and the story goes into an even stranger direction. Cyro "time travel" (stasis, not travel) and different dimension.
Still great concepts I am just stating that as like pantheon it goes from one hard sci fi concept to the next like the writer didnt really have a story to tell but used the story to shove loads of cool hard sci fi concepts in instead.
Which is perfectly fine for me as I love that shit and find it entertaining by being thought provoking.
>>
>>219813547
The first two episodes are an absolute slog, not helped by an unlikeable character.
There is:
>cunt science lady
>Asian cunt science lady
>Chinese lady
>Sam Tarly
>Sam Tarly's cancer brother
>Asian detective
Male cast is decent, too bad 80% scenes are about women.

So you know how when you remake an iconic movie it almost never comes off very well compared to the original? The same or worse is usually true for remaking foreign shows. Turns out movies and tv is about more than just the script and shooting. Just give us the original with subtitles. Also, aliens is such an unbelievable concept from the outset that people need a reason to become invested in it. Also I don't see how the title makes any sense at all.

They haven't even shown you the sante yet you retard.
All you have seen is sophon, which is an AI.
The sante are giant humanoids that have luminescent bodies and like I said their thoughts etc are shown to each other. Evolution to them would mean they dont have the capacity to lie.
Think of it like a monkey on our planet, they dont have the capacity to understand ownership of property.
Sante just literally learned via speaking to that one retard what lying is.
They didnt even have the concept of there even being such a thing as lying.
They learned straight away though. They are not stupid.
pic related. Its the AYYS from the chinese show.
I assume their thoughts are manifested by the lights in their head.

>I don't see how the title makes any sense at all.
It is a physics puzzle, unsolvable.
Pic related.
The point of the show is that the AYYS live on a planed that is affected by the 3 body problem so are abandoning the planet to come to earth after some chink cunt basically invited our invaders to come and invade us.

This show's production feels really fucking weird.
From what I've heard the show covers the books' material at an absolutely blistering pace, yet somehow each scene in the show feels like it's dragging its feet and taking forever to get anywhere.
>>
>>219814770
they're trying way too hard with the character drama, no one is gonna watch 3bp to see the cancer guy be sad for 50 mins
hopefully they saw all the criticism but i doubt it, we're still gonna see the nigger smoke weed and the spanish chick be mad at him but in space or something
>>
>>219814759
No its hard sci fi. the writer is a chinese scientist or something like that so he just made sci fi based around all these concepts that he thought were cool.
1st book is the 3 body problem, so like I explained about AYYS who have had to endure living in a 3 body solar systems and coming to earth,
2nd book is called the dark forest based after this theory
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_forest_hypothesis
>The dark forest hypothesis is the idea that extraterrestrial civilizations may exist in abundance across the universe, but remain silent and hidden out of fear that revealing themselves would lead to destruction by a more technologically advanced and hostile civilization.
3rd books is called deaths end though its not a name based on a scientific concept the story involves different dimensions.
Some thing of course that is impossible to translate to screen as humans cannot perceive the dimensions.
Though interstellar did it well enough.

They are stuck in their ways. Jews dont like to change the formula.
its why when you see cool sci fi it normally has some shitty romance sub plot because jews learned that chicks wont go and watch some sci fi if there is not foids, love, or sex shit etc and sex sells.
In this case drama for padding and highs and lows in a stroy.
>>
>>219813547
There's just one season, so far very unfinished, and although it's interesting it's kind of in a depressing way. Like what if there were aliens and crazy technology but it's all just horrible for everyone.

I only watched like 5 episodes of the chinese one before dropping off. It was quite interesting at first, mostly due to the story but the chinese are quite bad at filming stuff. I don't know about the netflix one but definitely as shit as it might be I still think it would be a better experience.
>>
>>
>>219814770
They're not really moving at a crazy pace. Book 1 is set entirely on the present, books 2 and 3 are set in both the present and the future. The Netflix show is doing the whole series chronologically, meaning that season 1 had the present day bits from all 3 books.
The future parts make up like 80% of the actual story and we haven't seen any of them yet.

yeah you keep mentioning "hard sci fi", first I'm not sure people use that term, they say "hard science fiction". Hard science fiction just means science fiction that can actually happen and it's explained how it can happen as opposed to just magically teleporting around, time travel and the like. It doesn't mean the author was interested in some science problems and build stories around them.
>>
>>
>>
>>219815927
>Hard science fiction just means science fiction that can actually happen
Yes and that is what 3BP is.
I know you see ayys and think it all fiction but everything he is using as plot devices are all plausible.
From using the sun to magnify radio waves to the sophon. The ayys are also limited by relativity too they cant travel FTL for example.
It is obvious that he just uses scientific concepts as a starting point like the three body [problem and built a story around that, but that is fine.

>no you dont understand!111
no retard i do understand , if you are creating images through a video game, you understand creating things that arent true
even AI created by an alien race would understand the concept of a false positive, results that do not add up, or things being wrong AKA not true
>>
>>219813547
I already read the books. The netflix show is dumbed down dogshit. The Chinese version is allegedly better >>219813879 but I have no idea how they made a 30 episode show out of a 300 page book so I imagine it's slow as molasses.
>>
Is the boat wire scene from the books? I hated it the most, followed by the "Oxford 5"
They can't risk too many civilian deaths or destroying the harddrive so their solution was to destroy the entire ship, kill every soul on board and have no way of knowing if the drive remained intact. Most retarded thing I've ever watched

a dark forest scenario is laughably unrealistic in the real world, yet the entire show and book hinges on it.

When I read the first book, I tried to imagine them based on the "human computer" bit except I didn't just assume they had psychic mind reading, like I thought the "can't lie" thing was just a psychological blocks, not a result of their thoughts being transparent.
I imagined them having this mirrored, silvery carapace all over, with a praying mantis sort of body plan(sort of Elesh Norn from mtg shaped head though), but the carapace is quite flexible. Like how sometimes you might sit on the hood of the car, and kind of pop part of the hood so it goes concave, before it pops back out. I had this idea of them working as a computer because they could pop their individual plate areas in and out over much of their bodies, and concave and convex plates catch the light differently, and they can do it really fast with the two states representing 1s and 0s to the the Trisolarans that can see you.
The fact that they're covered in these carapace plates also tied into the dehydration stuff. When they dehydrate the fleshy interior and joints shrivel up, so theiir bodies lose shape and pull together to form what appears to be mirror-like metal cocoon
Absolutely zero actual descriptions though. Everyone just gets some vague notion based on what we're told about how they act and live combined with what you think looks cool.

See that girl? The one in front? She’s absolutely insufferable and she’s the defacto protagonist for the first few episodes.
The past China segments are actually quite good. The later Davos getting shit done segments are also good, but there’s this pervasive air of FUCK WHITE MEN, mostly leaking out of that girl right there in the middle, that surely turned off a big chunk of their potential audience.
That bar scene where the guy tries to chat them up did irrevocable harm.
>>
>>219813547
The chronological storytelling thing is retarded, even for Netflix.
Aside from none of the characters being in the books, this is how they're telling the story; The first book takes place in the present, the second in the present then the future, and the third in the future with parts in the present.
Netflix's 3 Body is all of the present events happening across all three books told all at once, even though you need to have read the first book for the second to make sense, and the first two for the third, so the narrative appears to make absolutely no sense. You really need to read the first books for things like blasting a brain into space, cryo-preserving, Sophon, etc. to not be so out of place. The Chinese at least just told the story of the first book.
