Latest installment in almost century old mummy franchise dating back to 1930s seems to continue ill-fated rotten tradition.

Low critic scores are usually a good thing
>>
>>219819105
No they're not.
>>
>>219819105
I tried a few good films on Rotten Tomatoes to see if I could find one that had a low critic score, but I couldn't. Everything I tried had high critic AND audience score. Maybe I'm a boring normie. What sort of things did you have in mind?

Welp

The mummy has been the jannetty since the 30s

I seriously thought the trailer was for a Conjuring sequel the title card.

Critics don't have any special knowledge that makes them more qualified to have an educated opinion on a game or film than someone who actually bought copy/ticket. However, they do have conflicting interests that a fan who just wants a good movie doesn't have. Access, industry politics, etc.

Critics should not get their own special section on aggregates. A review from the Daily Mail should be counted as just another review, same as the audience.
>>
>mummy movie barely does anything relating to egyptian mythology
>>
>>219820685
Idk where this comes from. Some talking-point retards parroted from /tv/. I just saw it, and the Egyptology was a good background. Even though it was basically just Evil Dead: Mummies

>Critics don't have any special knowledge that makes them more qualified to have an educated opinion on a game or film
Depends on a critic, some critics do have "special knowledge" in a form of simply seeing more movies. And not "they saw every single capeshit movie ever" but in a sense that they watched more different type of movies and are open to various genres as well as both mainstream films and art films. Average normalfag who hasn't seen many movies can be impressed by the most pedestrian slop just cause he hasn't seen the billion similar and better films like that.
But you're right that critics are contaminated by industry politics.

It's not Universal's Mummy
>>
>>219821959
don't care
>>
>>219820685
It is very much rooted in egyptian mythology, focusing on sense of mummification and egyptian rituals more that most of mummy movies.

I’m not sure if I’m just a tasteless fucking moron or everyone else got filtered. It’s definitely derivative but I felt like my jimmies were adequately rustled. In an era of A24-core horror, it’s nice having something conventional with mostly decent production values save for the shitty CG coyotes who appear for some reason.
>>
>>219822140
It was good, but it could've been an Evil Dead prequel. Those were deadites, not mummies
>>
The Mummy was always the weakest of the Universal monsters

>bad reviews
But its at a 79%, that's pretty good
>>219819125
Yes, it is, film critic intellectuals are a bunch of gaywads
>>219820908
>are open to various genres
Bullshit, most of the Oscar voters abstained from the animation categories because they refused to watch the nominees. Film critic intellectual gamers shit on anything that isn't a boring drama

>>219822925
Imagine how hot he'd still be if he didn't get hurt or diddled and kept in shape. He could actually act too
>>
>>219819070
Just saw it and it's a gory blast. Sick sense of humor I loved. Is long as shit but I didn't feel it. There is a loli moment that's going to get webm'd to shit.
Best moment:
The girl jumps into the casket of her grandmother (who SHE killed) at the wake in front of the guests, tears her throat open and starts sucking out the embalming fluid before they both tumble out onto the ground and the girl laps the fluid up of the floor while everyone watches. Then one of the old lady guests pukes into her own champagne glass.
For a Hollywood flick this shit is balls out.

I liked the happy ending, where they apparently made a deal with the demon to infect the priestess from the clan that bound him for thousands of years

I'm sure they could've found someone on death row willing to volunteer to be a host and save the world for a few years instead of kidnapping innocent kids
>>
>>219823173
lmao, yes
>>
>>219823264
The basic idea that they'd kidnap some welloff white girl is ridiculous, it'd attract so much attention. They're in fucking Egypt, no way there aren't scores of orphan street urchins for them to pick from, and those are likely criminals in top if it. I just glossed over that part and enjoyed the mayhem.
>>
>>219823360
What didn't sit right with me is why they moved the sarcophagus, because they were afraid the valley would flood

1) So they've been doing this ritual for thousands of years, yet this is the first time it's been moved?
2) How the FUCK did they move a 10k-pound sarcophagus out of the hole that required crawling into

It just seemed like a quick and lazy way to get her from Egypt to New Mexico. Why not do a ritual on a fresh host and move them that way, like they did at the end

OK, I haven't seen any of them, so can't really comment.

Hmm . . . OK, after much searching, I have found a film which I think the Rotten Tomatoes critics really do underrate: Body Of Evidence (1993 Madonna erotic thriller).

It's not great but it's not awful. It's competently done for what it is. They give it only 8% (!) which should really be reserved for totally unwatchable dreck. It's nowhere near that bad. It's no sillier than Basic Instinct. Something like 20% or 30% would be a bit nearer the mark.

Madonna was right to feel a bit aggrieved about its reception. Seems the critics just had it in for her.

>Madonna was right to feel a bit aggrieved about its reception. Seems the critics just had it in for her.
I've never seen any of her films, but it's pretty obvious the critics have it out for anybody not in the club
>>
>>219823428
Only 4 people on /tv/ have seen this film so far
>>
>>219819070
Who wants to sit through 2 hours of this dreck?
>>
>>219824783
I went on a smoke break after the plane crashed (not going to spoiler it as it was in the previews), and came back. That was 30 mins in. The rest of the film was fast paced and didn't feel like 2 hours
>>
>>219824766
Me but 2 and a half hours is crazy
>>
>>219824996
It's an Evil Dead movie with a Mummy wrapper. It goes by fast
>>
>>219819070
>>219820279
What time is it it Mumbai right now?
>>
>>219825027
You can already tell she dies
>>
>>219825121
I watched this film.
Who dies?
Because this film had a relatively happy ending>>219823428

>>219825174
I meant >>219823264
The only member of the family who dies is the grandma
>>
>>219824766
