i actually like this more than the in-game art, it looks frumpy in a fun way
i guess temmie's art is more polished but it feels like it lacks a certain vision that is expressed in these images, you can feel a character emanating from these doodles that isn't there in the final sprites

I prefer Temmie's art but he isn't as bad as he thinks. His art has a lot of charm and soul. It's not enough to carry the game as the parts made by him are very ugly. But it's not bad for concept art.

He did everything for the UT demo, including the art, then forced Temmie to copy that style for the full release, even if it meant intentionally drawing things worse. Deltarune chapter 1 was just him and Temmie, so it largely continued aping that style, albeit to a lesser extent. And chapter 2 was done by a bunch of internet webcomic artists so it had much of the same spirit as Undertale, even if it again deviated in some aspects.

Over time the style of the series drifted away from that ms paint style, and the professional artists he brought on were the ones that pushed it firmly out of that style in the new chapters.

It does seem like it works like this, the translation only start being worked on after each chapter is almost completely done, it seems that all the way through, as the design of the chapter changes, so does the script. It seems very inefficient but that's how they have decided to work.

Chapter 3 wasn't that bad at all, though. Tenna was better than all fanmade concepts of him and the Sword Route saved the Zelda clones. My main issue is just how much I had to replay it because I missed all the secrets in my first time. Personally 4 was more disappointing but my expectations for 5 are way more tempered than they were for 3 and 4. I just want quirky flowers and cool fights and music at this point.

I had to replay it before the Knight was nerfed and beat it 3 times or so, which is why I can say it's overall easier than Sans. The worst is that I did it in an alternative save because I thought the Crystal would show up in Castle Town but it didn't because of the dumb blue ribbon glitch so I had to replay it AGAIN.
