Game looks decent but I haven't heard anything about it. Is anyone interested in it? Any reasons to avoid it?

Waist of a great design. It has mascot horror written all over.

Apparently it's filled to the brim with millennial banter, like a T Kingfisher novel. I can't wait for non-stop cheese puns, movie references & the mouse dealing with his ADHD trauma with quirky pop-culture zingers.

Watching some gameplay, there's something unsatisfying about the guns. I think it's the way they sound, the shots themselves and impacts.
I thought it could also be the way things hardly react to getting shot, but that doesn't bother me in Doom and other shooters. Or maybe I am expecting more reaction since it's more animated.

What is the dissonance that comes from murdering a bunch of characters but the setting tries to make you smile as you do?
Like...you're still killing everyone you run into, they just die...funny.

At least when the setting matches the violence I'm not feeling unsettled.

Actually, I figured out what's eating away at me with this game's tone.
I associate this visual and comedic style with cartoons with inconsequential shit. Daffy gets blasted in the face by Elmer's shotgun and his bill got spun around to the back of his head, ha ha, laugh at the gag and move on. Even if "lol R.I.P. gravestone" is the ending of a gag (or even short) you know, whatever, they show up later on so it wasn't a permanent fate.
But having to keep in mind that once you do whatever silly misfortune you treated your enemies to in this game they're ACTUALLY dead it doesn't feel natural. Like nothing I've ever watched that looks like this actually kills off characters with their goofy gags, you expect them to show up again (oftentimes later in the same short).

Sorry, that was meant to be paired with this screenshot.
>Lol, look at the funny mouse people. His head went pop!
>but you actually blew off his head and he's not getting up
I'm not saying it's something I couldn't get used to but at this moment I'm not there yet.

you fucking zoomtrannies probably would kill yourselves if you had to play classic Quake let alone Doom or Wolfenstein
No lore is leagues better than another fucking game about muh poor faggots with depression

I watched a review from a shill channel and while they didn't mention it I could tell from the footage that the game lacks variety. You can upgrade your 3 guns but 2 of them are your normal guns. And the enemies are just a bunch of mice. The reviewer complained about the lack of interesting environments but I think it makes sense for the setting
>>737044634
The game has plot instead of lore

Back In Mah Days we used to call all em shooters DOOM Clones

it's mostly just used as shorthand to distinguish these games from ones like Battlefield/COD/Halo FPS games
i.e. games that have regenerating health, two weapon limits and more focused non-maze-like level design.

Old/boomer shooters are open-ended mazelike metroid clones where you progress from finding keys and gear.
modern shooters are like movie games. they are linear, you fire at npcs before you acticate the next cutscene

i love dirty harry, la confidential, french connection, and to live in die in LA, but i can see people being tired with cop/detective related stories. You have a big mystery and are cockblocked with red herrings for 99% of the run time until a twist is unveiled last minute, and it is grating if that twist is obvious

Boomer shooters are mazes with fast kind of dumb gameplay, but they are not metroidvanias. A lot of boomers shooters are kind of dogshit to be honest. And they get passed off as great games because the levels are "complex". Its like the fps version if that picture where indie games are just super hard platformers with no rhyme or reason.

More millennial dialogue. Imagine paying $30 for this. Isn't the whole point of noire stories having the protagonist narrate the world around them? You could have had him say more than just "Hm, I guess I did a thing!" This isn't a random example, by the way, it's from the first hour of gameplay.

holy fucking larp. boomer shooters are not metroid clones. There is no backtracking / interconnecting levels that you can explore at any given time. Most of them you progress linearly through levels one my one. Yes, those levels tend to be open and full of things to explore and collect, but you still progress normally from the beginning of the level to the end of the level.
Now there are boomer shooters that leaned more into this metroidvania level structure, like Hexen Powerslave and Strife, but those were the exception, not the rule.

>You have your entire inventory of guns available on you at any given time.
>Ammunition is typically gained from items scattered around the map rather than enemies, and if enemies do give you ammo it's usually in small amounts unlike modern FPS games where you replace the entire gun and gain multiple magazines per kill.
>There are typically no reload animations at all, you just fire for as many shots as you have on hand.
>Health is gained from item pickups as are armor shards of some kind instead of raspberry jam healing.
>Combat encounters tend to revolve around ambushes for either picking up items or
>There's almost never a story outside of the intro blurb and you're just dropped into the map.
>Maps are almost always mazelike, the only exception I can think of is Forgive Me Father and even that's definitely one due to everything else.
>Maps require you to obtain some sort of keys to unlock locked doors to progress.
>Maps have secrets you unlock either by humping walls and using the walls, pressing a button then sprinting somewhere, or taking damage in some sort of liquid to reach it.
>Sometimes your view is locked to one plane and the game auto-aims shots like Doom or Wolfenstein.
>Sometimes there's a focus on speed in clearing a stage, sometimes not. Dread Templar is an example of a game that sort of encourages it.
It's a pretty clarified genre and easy to understand what makes a game a "Boomer shooter". Occasionally there's edge cases like Resistance 1 where it looks and plays more like a traditional FPS than one and only really becomes one in NG+ due to half the guns being locked behind it, but that's few and far between.

Just ignore all the Build games and all the games that pastiche those games

Some Film Noir or pulp detective stories very much had a motor mouth protagonists who talked a lot

No, I'm using the right term for some whiny faggot being morally offended over some retarded bullshit. It's no different from that one blue checkmark on twitter crying about GTA letting you kill cops.
