Except for a few games, PS2 games are great on PS3 if you have one. I just played all of the Ape Escapes and had a blast. Xenosaga also runs really well on it, and its PS1 emulation is very accurate too.

I haven't tried it, but I actually have it on the HDD. I believe it runs great. Ironically some of the only games that run and emulate poorly are the entire Ratchet & Clank series. I've just finished the Sonic games on it, and played some Disaster Report, and Kingdom Hearts 1, and all the Ape Escape games.
They pretty much run like on a real PS2. You'd be surprised how accurate it is, and Ape Escape 2/3 are 60fps and lag in places that also tend to lag on PS2.
It's on a PS3 Slim. Only the very first PS3 had genuine BC and not software emulation. All later PS3's use an emulator called PS2_Netemu and it's the same that the PS2 Classics Vault on PSN uses on PS3. And I believe both input- and sound-latency is extremely low as well. PS5 has worse latency on its PS2 emulation than the PS3 does. Same with PS1 games. And you can hold your ISOs on a NTFS drive, and then the PS3 just copies them over when you pick one. So I have a 2TB drive with over 100 PS2 games on it, and going through the list.

Both versions are minmaxing what they can get away with in their respective territories to hit the later teenager market without getting the rating that restricts it to adults.
