It's pretty cool and you will get every character in few months of play, new minigames nearly every event, no limited characters, PvP rewards aren't that different between bottom and top of the rankings, fun and concise story, pretty nice OST and past events archive is only few months out of date

Not at all. There's PvP mode that is entirely on auto combat so only wankers care about that outside cashing in daily rewards. And there's regular fights with player rankings, but again, no need to sweat too much about them, since difference between participation rewards and top 10% is pretty minimal.

Yes. All characters aside from few limited ones can be farmed with time, and as long as you engage with the game you get enough pull currency to get limited ones too.
Now, if you do wanna max out the characters and get dupes, you'd have to plan out your pulls, but there's really no need to do that.

I have ranked up both snorky and speaki to 4* and got a popup advertising their skin both times.

It seems similar to a tactic I've seen in some other gacha (that I've only ever watched video s of fortunately) where they'll offer you a flash sale on a pack that will let you upgrade a high rarity character immediately when you pull them, and then if you buy it they'll immediately offer you another, more expensive one. I'd have dropped the game immediately when I got the first popup if not for the fact that:
1. I like the story
2. It doesn't happen as soon as you get the character but when you increase their star rank
3. It's for a skin rather than upgrade mats, so purchasing it can't possibly trigger them immediately offering you another more expensive version of the same thing

Even worse is that a while ago Genshin had that thing where you could get Constellations of V1-V3 characters if you did enough weeklies... BUT ONLY CONSTELLATIONS! And you could only get it for one character once.
So since I was new player, I could only fucking get Mona constellation from that event. Would it have fucking broken the meta if I could have picked some character that I liked, like Childe, Eula or Hu Tao? Fuck no, they are all incredibly past meta, only thing it would have done is let people fill their roster, or let new players get a foot in the door bit more easily.
At least Star Rail seems to add old characters to 50/50 loss pool, and to dupe shop, and also sometimes gives limited selectors.
