It's midnight in a big-ass city that's effectively a ghost town except for some idiots who exist purely to be beaten up if you feel like doing that. It's always either raining or snowing so you get to enjoy the aesthetics of that without actually getting wet/cold yourself.
String orchestra softly playing in the background.
Riddler hacking into the billboards every five minutes either to nag you about finishing his dumb racetrack or to tell you how stupid you are.

They really are my comfort zone games. Not too east, not too hard. And I play them on hard and go for 100%. Some of the challenges are pretty tough though.

>You are Batman, you get to use all of Batman's gadgets and technology as you traverse across a vast city - by flight if need be - fighting crime and iconic Batman criminals as you'd like
That's all there is to it. There doesn't need to be anything else.

>As opposed to being nostalgic for Diablo 1, 2, Doom, Quake, GTA III and Vice City (casual brainlet games), etc. etc.
See how easy it is? I can go further if you want. Every single CRPG from that era is pure garbage. Garbage storytelling, garbage game mechanics. Yes this includes BG, Fallout and Planescape torment.
I grew up going to Quake 2 tournaments. Get over yourself, you are not special.

It's fun, and some of them are the best superhero games you can play.
Don't do all the challenges though, I did them out of autism for City in January and I got so fucking sick of sneaking behind thugs in steel mills and museums.

The posters were always there we were just drowned out by the majority, then the hatewagon moved on to something else so we can finally breath. This happens all the time and every time it does someone makes a post like yours. The majority opinion on here can be wrong actually.
Bamham combat is much more than spam button to counter. The games are very responsive to things you do and you can tell were made by people that enjoy games not just pushing out a playable movie, they also include a ton of callbacks that show the love of the franchise they were working on. No it's not Ninja Gaiden Black but they're not forgettable PS2 licensed movie shovelware either.

That's the actual subversion, that the marketing is just straight up lying.

City is almost completely different tone from Assylum. Assyum is contained, City is more open

Obviously DD and the TMNT, in fact there were rumors as far back as Arkham City that Rocksteady were going to do a TMNT game, but one of the devs or somebody shot it down in a very cunty way making the Turtles sound like bums they were too good for.

I thought it wasn't bad in Asylum because the levels are fairly small, but once you get to Knight, it's just obnoxious.
>get hundreds of collectibles strewn around this giant city to get the true ending even though you can just watch it on youtube

Asylum isn't too bad, City is very annoying, especially the catwoman trophies, cuz fuck playing as that lame bitch. I can't remember if I 100% Knight, but I know it was definitely gorilla nigger aids.
Imo asylum is the best except for the Joker fight

i would have loved a Rocksteady Daredevil game but at it's best condition it would have been a grotesque Frankenstein of BamHam and the Insomniac Spider-Man. His senses would just be Detective Vision all the time and Spidey's Spider-Sense. Traversal would be the same as Arkham only instead of the grapple it would be his billy club rope. There would be nothing to really distinguish him to even warrant a full game.

Can´t be properly done. Arkham asylum and city mostly work because TAS and Burton´s Batman exist. It´s like taking the quintessential essence of Batman and putting it on steroids. Now that Conroy is gone achieving a similar result would be impossible even for new Batman games.
Most other superheroes have not had media of that quality and iconic value paving their way like that. Closest i can think of are probably the X-men cartoon from the 90´s and maybe the TMNT live action movies of the same period. You´d need to bring back the creative teams and voice actors to make those work like they did for the Arkham games and even that would be no guarantee.

I've got mad respect for Hamill deciding to retire from voicing the Joker after Conroy died. Like the rest of us, he knew it'd never be the same without him. Modern Batman needs to find its own voice, and so far it hasn't gone well.

I 100% all four games, the challenges and riddler content was a tasteful addition for Asylum and made sense in the context of a schizo on the loose hiding things around the island. After that they became blatant filler content and progressively worse with each sequel to the point where the only memory I have of Knight's playthrough is the feeling of pure boredom and low level frustration throughout, truly a shining testament to the amount of free time I had as a teenager.

People hated the batmobile sections but I honestly didnt mind them. And the combat is better than in Asylum and City. Puzzles/Riddles were also fun to solve...to me at least. Riddlers puzzles alone are like a completely separate game within a game.

They're just fun. Good music and atmosphere. The gameplay is simple enough but still very fun in terms of the combat, and has enough complexity to keep things interesting.
A few more years and I'll do another playthrough of all of them.

Funny enough i believe the reason it´s failing it´s also related to TAS. It´s just too iconic, too established. When an movie, TV show or game already has a strong established identity it sets certain expectations. It´s as if TAS is the control group of an experiment; whatever they make is always going to be compared against it. Arkham succeeded precisely because it accepted that ok, TAS is Batman, TAS is what the people are expecting of Batman so let´s give them TAS.
>>737072846
Certainly but the point would be being capable of translating that to the games. Spiderman, X-men and the TMNT have had tons of games but none have been able to achieve what Arkham did for Batman.

>TAS is what the people are expecting of Batman so let´s give them TAS.
Not necessarily, stuff like the Dark Knight trilogy did very well despite being a vastly different approach to Batman compared to TAS or Arkham
