>2000's everyone hates nu metal
>2020's everyone has nostalgia for nu metal
Is it just because everything is worse now or did people pretend to hate it to fit in?

A bit of both. 2000s were filled with people hating on things because they thought it was cool to do so. Things are so bad now that people realized how good we had it back then when the worst complaints people had with a lot of things was that they were "cringe."

I still think it's not a particularly great genre overall, but I like some of it, and I no longer have that teenager reaction where I must OMGFUCKINGHATE whatever I dislike. In addition, nu metal shitposting is fun.

When you are younger, you have an urge to scream out how much you don't like something to fit in, whether it's country or nu metal or whatever
As an adult, you will still hate it but you quietly ignore it instead of autistically screeching about it
That being said in my 30s nu metal is just okay to me but its real use is in shitposts
