Is it worth it? I was playing Citadel lately and I'm in the mood for a singleplayer shooter
It being in black and white makes it look a bit dull visually though

It makes sense its a smaller project, but it doesn't even come close to perfectly emulating the early animation look in the same way Cuphead does. I think the fact that Cuphead was initially animated on paper is what makes it have that perfect grit. Mouse P.I. feels sterile in comparison.

Its actually really good so far. Not super serious but I wanted it to be fun and cartoony. IGN was smoking dick about the difficulty too, definitely feels like a solid 9 out of 10 game so far. Pirated it but ill buy it when I have the money to support the developers. Between this and Windrose indies are hitting all the right boxes.

This is pretty much every rubberhose attempt since Cuphead.
As with most things it's better to use that success as an inspiration to bring other styles to life, like what "The Life Of Goldman" or "Orbitals" are doing.

My thoughts so far after the first hour:
>can only carry 28 bullets at a time for your 8 shot pistol, it serves no purpose other than to have your character constantly looking around to make sure ammo is topped off
>environment is totally static other than some clearly highlighted interactable crates and explosive barrels
>rubber hose animation style is worse than what Cuphead did, but it looks alright
>shooting is okay but not as satisfying for me as other boomer shooters like Cultic
>story is what you expect, a parody of noir films
>game is on the easy side so far, never got lower than 80 health
6/10 but I'm only an hour in, so

I'm more believable of this score, as much as I would like this game to be greater despite the fact I've only seen videos and images, because you actually gave SOME input about the game itself that was objectively informative, instead of just throwing out a score and leaving baseless, subjective info based on current emotion.
Plus, 6/10 is, and always have been, an above average score, despite what idiots may think.

>can't replay levels if you missed a collectable
>wish the world wasn't static and had some physics to some props when the fights break out
>can't get the secret gun if you don't get the tokens from the levels ties back into not being able to replay levels
>wish the world was little brighter on the monochrome
it feels very dry and I've already breezed through the first four or five levels even taking my time to look for shit.

I have a feeling level replay will probably be one of the first things patched in but I am so tired of this being the process. I mean it's nice that it's a possibility in this day and age but I wish we just had more common sense with these things.

1930s Popeye hallmark, puffs his pipe out the sides of his mouth while beating the shit out of Bluto and calling him slurs. Popeye gets to keep his trademark pipe in his mouth and you've sidestepped a realistic body rule to free up the mouth for dialog.. Paul Rudish does it a bit in his work on the nuMickey shorts

I really like these segments even though there's no real interactivity with the environment. It reminds me of Paper Mario's towns and how 'busy' they looked. I just wish that there was more background dialog, NPCs talking to each other and stuff like that.
>>737077626
right now it's just the comic book you can find in-game through collectibles and the OST (which is pretty decent.) We have no idea what the scope or cost of this first DLC will be so it's more of an 'if you really like the game' kind of thing. They do have a deluxe edition upgrade option in the store if you purchase standard

So mad about that. Downloaded the demo, played around ten minutes, was digging it, but crashed cause long day
Woke up and the demo period ended
Those type of games are always 50/50 for me, so I wanted to try it for another hour before I took the jump.
Ill just wait, no rush if it's good.

I get the point of the homage but monochrome is a limitation first and foremost. Even more artsy mediums rarely bother with it because it just looks like ass most of the time. And it a game it negatively imacts the gameplay.
Most games opt for a soft monochrome (black and white with bright colours for certain things like blood, items, enemies etc.)

Not that anon, but if a game doesnt provide a playable demo that's the first 1/3rd of the game then I'll always pirate it.
If a game is over $30 I'll always pirate it.
Dont like it?
Release playable demos and lower the price of your game.

>can't replay levels if you missed a collectable
Why the fuck would you want to replay levels?
What kind of autist actually cares about collectibles in games?
its a boomer shooter, you're supposed to just shoot cunts.
>wish the world wasn't static and had some physics to some props when the fights break out
very fair complaint, this shit has been expected in every game since Duke Nukem 3D, so leaving it out is pretty shitty.

It's honestly pretty lame and uninspired. Charming with its style but is otherwise horribly mediocre.
I give it my second-highest rating yet.
7/10.

>>737083376
bottles and cans react to gun shots but a lot less of the world is 'physical' than you expect it to be.. there is a hidden gun tied to collecting all of the secrets so if you miss one there's not really a way to go back and collect it unless you want to load a hard save from several hours ago and redo everything
>>
>>
>>
>>737087334
Yeah, it's a pretty basic detective penny dreadful with charming animations and designs. >>737073885
>>737070453
it basically plays like a 'lite' version of nuDOOM without the glory kills.. moving from room to room and killing enemies as they spawn with an evolving arsenal of weapons. You can upgrade them ala Bioshock 1 through the mechanic mouse in that webm and they actually do physically change; you can turn your starting pistol from semi-automatic to burst-fire and other stuff like that. There are some sections with story and dialog and for what it's worth the performances are pretty good, they bill the fuck out of Troy Baker as the main character but he puts in work. Full of stupid rodent wordplay which I absolutely love so it suckered me in with that, it doesn't feel 'cheap' but it doesn't feel AAA.. I feel like the game will benefit from patches that introduce quality of life things like more destructible environments and level select. Would probably grab it on sale if you're not keen on the idea.

>>
>>737057615
Do you do any actual detective stuff in this game or is it just an aesthetic choice?
Like are there clues to collect and mysteries to solve and stuff or are you just shooting shit to progress while the mystery solves itself in cutscenes?

I think IGN gave it a 6 out of spite because you look at the creators they gave preview copies to, they're all community level creators like GManlives, Indiemaus and Jonathan Ferguson. Quite a community-driven marketing push which I think must've pissed IGN off
>>
Main gripe I've got so far is how quickly corpses disappear. Hell, kind of annoys me that corpses disappear at all. I can understand it in a resource intensive game for the sake of performance but in a game with sprite based enemies and largely static environments, I just feel like there's no reason for it.
>>
>>
For those who have played it, what's the closest boomer shooter you can compare it to? Is the shooting good or more like an afterthought to the cartoony gimmick? Do enemies lead their shots? Are there hitscanners? Do headshots do more damage? Do enemies react to limb/hand shots or are they just big sponges of damage that go into their canned death animation when you hit their threshold? Is there ducking or sliding to avoid shots? How's the movement? Zoom zoom like Doom Eternal/Ultrakill/Viscerafest or more grounded like something like Boltgun/Doom Dark Ages? I like old cartoons but I'm not going to tolerate shitty gunplay.
