Was this game really so bad it killed the infamous franchise?

Kind of. It's not such a dreadful game, but it's very much worse than what came before, and it getting a tepid response probably gave them the push they needed to just make something else instead.
It worked out, as much as I like inFAMOUS 1, 2 and Carnival of Blood, I think Tsushima is a better game than all of them. Wish Yotei brought back moral choices though, those were fun and would probably make Yotei feel less like a DLC.

I think this was the only PS4 game that truly felt special
This and maybe Driveclub
Ratchet was subpar,worse than PS3 and PS2
Bloodborne is a meme, just anoher Souls
God Of Onions killed the series and I sold my PS4Pro shortly after playing it for around 2-3 hours
No MotorStorm(only Driveclub and Motorstorm is way more fun)
Last of Us another onions series that killed gaming
That console was a mess goddamn

Yotei's whole structure seems intentionally skewed away from moral choices though. Tsushima very clearly had the bones of a Samurai/Ghost moral choice system and some of the cutscenes only make sense if you were presuming Jin was entirely one way or the other rather than the muddy middle ground he ended up in. Yotei is all ghost all the time, and her brother is the stuck up samurai instead. The real thing they needed to do to stop the game feeling like DLC was have anything going on that fundamentally added to the gameplay instead of just polish and streamlining.

1 and 2 are solid. Both worse than Prototype, both better than Prototype 2. Characters are decent, combat's fun, climbing and fucking about in the city is fun if a lot stiffer and slower than Prototype. It really felt like they hit their stride with 2 which is why Second Son being such a lopsided mess was disappointing.

In a way. Is it your TORtanic/concord level unplayable megaflop that ruins everything it touches? No, but it's just a really garden variety level bad, its only noteworthy feature wasn't part of the game itself, but rather the simple fact it was one of the only "legitimate" ps4 exclusives until bloodborne. The Odor: 18.86 frames per second ended up being more memorable than second son just by being an actual disaster instead of a forgettable wet fart.

It was surprisingly good, on par with the first two games gameplay wise but that's at the same time its biggest problem because the powers are basically a reskin of Cole's powers so it ends up feeling pretty silly that you've got 3 power sets that are supposed to be different from one another and all of them are in the same style as Cole's powers.
