>updated DK's promo model instantly
>the rest of the Mario cast are still using Switch era models in official art despite MKW showing everyone getting design refreshes, not just DK
I wonder if they're just waiting for the next mainline Mario game to update everyone else's promo models. DK's game was just around the corner from MKW so it makes sense that he'd get priority in this regard.also I like DK's in-game MKW model more than his Bananza/new promo model, because MKW leans a bit more into his old 2D art for his expressions

Nintendo is full of people who are so dead set on maintaining the status quo that when they eventually decide to change something, they abandon what they had before just so they can pretend the status quo never changed at all.

Donkey Kong stopped being cool as soon as the DK Rap was heard for the first time in the 90s. Nintendo did not kill Donkey Kong. Rareware did so themselves.

>is literally an amalgamation of older designs
I love the new design, I'd say that the only real issues are that they haven't done enough testing on setting his poses/expressions, sometimes he looks absolutely perfect, sometimes he looks off, but he's far more balanced than the old design that just looks kind of confused or like he's trying to do 2 expressions at once, and has far less space for expression while also having a much worse neutral expression.
The new design is also more in line with how Nintendo have been drawing him in 2d since the 00s, and the original DK design while still keeping elements from the Rare design.

I really hope that doesn't mean everyone else's refreshes were one-offs for MKW, becuase I do like what they did for a lot of characters there.

Haha yes they're totally erasing history even though his new design still contains aspects from the Rare design and also the fact that his new game that said design was for is a literal love letter to all of DK's prior history, whether that'd be the arcade era, the Rare games, and (to a smaller extent) Jungle Beat and the Retro games.

Are those designs the new main designs or are they for Mario Kart World itself? Odyssey pushed Mario with detailed hair but that design didn't make it into other games, but then the warm shading for skin has become the standard for all Mario games.

It'd be a shame if they're one-offs, because beyond specifically addressing shit I've wanted to see, it's also just nice on a more general level to have a stylistic adjustment after so long that correlates to proportions and expressiveness. But we're kind of in limbo on the truth of the matter, since MKW was originally being made for Switch 1, and Tennis Fever (the only other new non-DK Mario game) is an asset flip of Tennis Aces. That's all we have to go off of for now because Nintendo is now apparently allergic to revealing new games.

All the assets were touched up heavily from Aces, new geometry, textures and materials, it wouldn't be hard to alter characters proportions while reusing the same animations, but it wouldn't be trivial either, I think the new designs for Mario Kart World are one offs because Mario Kart hasn't traditionally determined the new art direction, it's traditionally been the core games.

King Boo and Daisy were nice.
King Boo from Luigis Mansion is my favorite, but I treat it as different entity than the one in the regular Mario games.

The DK Rap was fun and DK was cool in that game.

>making a game that looks slightly different after 20 years is now “erasing history”
Is Nintendo erasing history by not using Mario’s SM64 design on promotional material? Retard.
>>737115789
>hate Rare
>Bananza is a love letter to Rare’s DK games
Double retard.
>Miyamoto having any involvement in game development in the last 10 years
Quintuple retard.

I do, because the DKC trilogy was absolutely brimming with soul, and I love that trilogy, especially DKC2. DK64 was always a soulless Banjo knockoff, and just a bad game overall. Even as a kid I hated that game.

>The DK Rap was fun and DK was cool in that game.
Nah, despite what the DK Rap claims, he is in fact not bigger, not faster, nor stronger in that game.
In DKC2, he finishes K.Rool with a fucking uppercut. Awesome.
In DK64, he has to shoot out of a barrel to even beat phase 1 of K.Rool; Chunky is the one who gets to land the final blow. Lame.

>be nintendo
>make it big in gaming with donkey kong
>Some Gajin pieces of shit take your character and make him big again
>nothing for decades and time to make him "yours" again
>change the design to fit more with the rest of the mario universe
Makes sense to me
