I bought this full price at launch even knowing it would flop just because Tango. The Evil Within is one of my top 5 games idgaf.

The game had a lot of cool stuff in it, but it was clearly very sterilized and made to try and appeal to the masses with very generic gameplay and progression systems awkwardly fitted onto the game.

I think they had reworked the combat or something by the time I played it but I thought it was pretty good. Very atmospheric open world with some movement mechanics and a lot of cool little horror vignettes. The only thing I remember people talking about was the localization adding a stupid capitalism joke.

Originally was supposed to be a horror yokai game but rventually shifted into generic far cry like game. Also reminder that the quirky chongus jap girl from the announcement that became more popular than this game has quit every single company she worked on before the games came out and all of them flopped....suspicious

Very atmospheric game, locations look nice, enemy designs are cool
But the combat is rather mundane and the side content is just copy paste
Good game if you get it for like $12

What are you talking about? While rare, urban fantasy games are not non-existent.

Ah, yes. In that case I'd agree.
Outside of the Shin Megami Tensei series, I'd be hard pressed to find yokai video games in modern times.
I guess I could recommend World of Horror too, but that's more lovecraftian with only a couple onryo here or there.
