I guess 90% of "Mafia fans" only played Mafia 2 so it makes sense.

>the gameplay doesn't suck ass

pretty much
ok maybe original had the racing mode too which I guess is kinda missing here
and if you wanna get anal, there are some little details like maybe a mission having a different dialouge or something but in those cases, DE improved a lot on the overall feel that Salieri was in fact controlly Tommy and was starting a descent into more vile crime. DE also has better side content with the funny haha missions in free roam.

Go to free roam and look around the bar, you'll find letters from a mysterious person with clues to a location. Find the said location and there'll be a ringing phone booth. Answer it to recieve a mission. complete the mission for unlocks that can be used even in the main story, like cars, weapons, outfits etc.

how did they butcher anything nostalgia fag? the voice acting and performances are like 10x better, the gameplay is serviceable and works well, the original was and is very charming but it's a story game with garbage voice acting and delivery, and that's where the remake focused on and made it better
get real unc

Final parts of the story kinda changed to
>Mah family, all for mah family
To me og message was
>Try to do everything in your life in some sort of moderation
It was more about mc struggles instead of retarded shitallian family values
If you don't care about story nothing much changed for you doe

Mafia 1 is my all time favourite game. I went through the remake, and I'll be fair, it did so some things better.
Mostly just the acknowledgement of prohibition. Outside of some of the intermezzos, the moving of alcohol only comes up in two missions, A Trip to the Country and Great Deal!
It does a bit better characterization. Paulie who was always described as "moody" or "odd" definitely more squirrely. Sarah, who we see on three occasions now actually has a personality. It may just be that of an oddly independent Italian American woman, but it's there. Overall, the Mafia is less romanticized and more brutal.
Fairplay actually has police chase you. OG Fairplay had three different characters tell you not to get seen by the police, only for there to be absolutely no police around.
While the mission Omerta is way worse, it doesn't have you picking up plane tickets to give to character after you've shot the place to hell, which is less retarded.
That's about it though. The "Definitive Edition" is more a derivative edition.

It was really fucking retarded. The original's ending monologue isn't really coherent. The idea of moderation or how greed corrupts isn't really a point or running theme in the game. The idea of not being able to run from your past, or that crime doesn't pay is a much more explored idea.Frank still ends up dying even though Tommy helped him escape. The reason they found this out was because Tommy didn't kill a women who was running her mouth. The consequences of the bank robbery.A lot of the story revolves around the consequences of killing the son of an important Lost Heaven city councillor. And of course,Tommy still ends up dying because of his actions.
The family speech just comes out of nowhere. Sarah might be in more missions, but Tommy doesn't talk more about his family in the remake. It just comes out of nowhere and is completely out of place.

That was just them combining or original's Freeride Extreme with Freeride. Combining the two isn't a terrible idea, but they cut out a lot when they did it. They got rid of all the extra Lucas Bertone side missions the original had, and replaced it with five cars you could find in Freeride.
They also didn't incorporate all the OG Freeride Extreme missions. Instead we got a fuckton of pointless collectable to grab. I liked a lot of the art of the pulp comics, but there were so many fucking collectables.

I don't know why the didn't incorporate any of the original's soundtrack aside from the main theme. The OG's was fantastic. I can't rmemeber much of the remake's, other than how Fairplay's race had music that sounds like it was from a Stuart Little movie.
OG's Crème De La Crème is bit weird, but also thematically appropriate, while the remake's is more "realistic" but doesn't suit the point.OG's Morello going out into public with only two bodyguards and no additional backup is ridiculous, but gives credence to Tommy's point that a massively powerful kingpin could be taken out by anyone. While the remake has you take on an army of mafioso, which might be more appropriate, but destroys the point Tommy tries to make.
Moonlighting cutting straight to the heist was shit. I get that walking to the train station with Paulie, taking a train, and then walking to the bank wasn't thrilling, but I still like going to buy the guns and getting the roadster.
I hated how they changed the actual item you were procuring in Just for Relaxation. The whole"you're going to grab cigars, no, actually it's diamonds, nope lol, it's actually drugs". is fucking dumb. I didn't care for this in Mafia 2 either. The whole "Do whatever crimes you want but selling drugs is too far" thing is ridiculous and I hate it. What the fuck were you doing during prohibition?
Visiting Rich People may have been a janky, out of place escort stealth mission, but at least it was different and added a bit of variety. The remake gets rid of all the stealth and just makes into a shoot out. Same thing with Happy Birthday. The interesting assassination situation gets an unnecessary shoot out.

And of course, they fucked up The Death of Art. Why did they haveTommy choose where he was going to meet up with Sam during the phonecall? It's a fucking setup. OG Mafia had Sam recommend meeting at the gallery because it was an ambush.
You Lucky Bastard isn't as good at the OGs. In all fairness, the OG's version was a little ridicuous.Sergio Morello hanging out in public at the Rainbow Garden restaurant after two back-to-back assassination attempts is stupid, but the final shootout and hunting him down in the harbor is one of the best missions in the game. The remake just makes the last segment a linear cover based shootout.

level design is inferior, it's just "walk in a straight line and use the artificially placed cover" shit, in the original every location felt believable
missing the point of the whole message, I really fucking hate how nufaggots claim the nuending is better because tommy takes his execution "like a man", since he knew it'd come. That's not what fucking happened in the original, the whole point was that Tommy was another gangster who thought he had escaped criminal life and got cocky, which is why he's taken aback when they confront him many years later. He wasn't supposed to "be ready", he thought he had made it out, that it was over.
The story was just ruined in many other aspects too, lots of rewriting of characters

The remake completely rewrote every single character in a manner that completely changes the context of just about every event that happens the game. It also cuts out the side missions in favor of collectibles, removed access to the train system, and censored two vehicles for having Confederate and Indian names.
