ITT: Games where the majority of "fans" are actually secondaries who have either never actually played or never engaged with the greater series it's a part of.

I don't understand this consoomer mindset of having to worship an entire franchise just because you like one game. Just play games you like and don't play games you don't like, stop being autistic and clinging to gaymer IPs to define your identity.

I became a MGR secondary back in 2015 after hearing dudes discussing the ending in a Sonic 06 LP, that alone convinced me to buy the game I've heard nothing about before
Wouldn't get into MGS proper until 2021

Why do fans of incredibly popular franchises like MGS convince themselves they're into some obscure hardcore gamer shit?
Bro, literally fucking everyone has played MGS1 and MGS3 at the very least. You are not in a secret club.

Metal gear solid is babby’s first exposure to idiosyncratic jap media. As a whole it was an industry plant artificially put on a pedestal by western journos to try and western slop-ify Japanese media. They did this because MGS has the “familiar” trappings of western media and Kojima is the biggest Hollywood simp in the industry.
As for the consumers POV, one they are simple minded and follow journalist trends. But it’s because MGS has the previously mentioned Japanese idiosyncratic quality to it wrapped up in a familiar guise of western media. It’s a “safe” way to consume le icky and wacky jap media.
The series is mostly mediocre, which is why it has had little cultural staying power once the western slopification of jap media started. Now they instead push capcom products for a similar reason.

>"fans"
Why the quotation marks? There's nothing stopping somebody from being a fan of a game just because they don't enjoy the series otherwise.
Fair enough if they claimed to be Metal Gear fans, but I don't think I've ever seen that happen - I'd bet you're more likely to find that sort among Phantom Pain players than MGR:R.
