I don't care for remakes, especially censored ones that run at a lower framerate than the original.
I bought Brothership, it was enjoyable, but man it takes a while to pick up, I can easily see why it didn't sell well on word of mouth

I bought all of them except Brothership, kinda strange Nintendo went the entire Switch generation with no Mario RPGs at all and then decided to release 3 of them within the span of a year towards the end of the system's life.

>TTYD remake sells less than Origami King which would lead you to believe Nintendo will keep doing the Sticker Star formula
>BUT, Tanabe is retiring and he was the whole driving force behind the Nu-Paper Mario games so....maybe not?
The next Paper Mario will probably be something completely new

Brothership sold almost 2 million copies in 6 months. Nothing incredible by Nintendo standards but it has sold better than every other M&L game outside of Superstar Saga.
You can find details about this sort of thing in their end-of-year financial reports here:

The SNES remake literally sold better than the original SNES version and that was two years ago.

Brothership wasn't that bad. It's just something that should have been early in the Switch's life rather than the end to be successful.
TTYD and SMRPG did not need remakes at all. Just throw them on Switch online at worst. SMRPG needed a real sequel co-developed by Square like we were promised in 1997.

Brothership was mediocre and soulless.
TTYD Remake was literally inferior to the original due to being half the framerate, and the original is easy to emulate. Anyone paying $60 for that is retarded.
SMRPG remake was fine but again, $60 for an easily emulateable game is a ripoff.

>brotherslop
Slow as fuck game with mid story and characters
>smrpg remake
Actually a decent remake which is why is sold the best at over 3m copies.
>thousand year troon
Speaks for itself. Also ran worse than the original

Why did AlphaDream keep making each M&L game more and more linear after Superstar Saga? It was fun exploring the overworld in Superstar Saga finding hidden caves and stuff and getting new bros moves and hammer upgrades to reach new areas and there was stuff like the Beanstar that let you tackle collecting pieces in your own order but they got rid of all that in the sequels.

No clue. It made less sense, too because they could've easily done something similar with PiT since it's a hub-based game, where that kind of thing is even easier. All you need is some light level scaling depending on sequence is all it takes.
Makes more sense for BIS since you can't have the Bros and Bowser free at the same time for obvious reasons, but it is still unfortunate.

>but it has sold better than every other M&L game outside of Superstar Saga.
The original Bowser Inside story for DS has sold 4.52 million, it is the best selling M&L games and the best selling Mario RPG game period.

TTYD remake outsold the original. Super, and Origani King hasnt been passed but there was a small margin between it and sticker star so its likely outsold that by now, especially with the sales it goes on frequently.

30fps when the og is 60 + looking uglier
before you say TROON VIVIAN, remember, everyone in 2004 went in blind, and for years, people have spew that stuff already anyways. TTYD's target demographic already knew what they were getting into.
SMRPG remake still the king

Mario Wonder gets boring after the first world when the wonder gimmicks get old and start repeating. At the end of the day it's still platformer with tile-based level design when other series like Donkey Kong moved past that a decade ago.

>Brothership was so dogshit that even an IGN reviewer who needs a daily intake of Nintendo semen to survive couldn't pretend it was good enough to give it the tendie bonus.
Yeah I'm not sure what went wrong either anon.

>SS
The SS remake was the only one that was a direct upgrade, the QoL changes were great and the minions side story is neat. Only gripe is that healing blocks are everywhere and you never needed to buy anything, or even USE any of your items. Ability to skip cutscenes adds so much replayability.
>BiS remake
Genuinely awful remake that threw out everything they improved upon in previous remake. You can't save anywhere like in the SS remake, battles take way too long and the all the music sounds like the original tracks compressed and played through a walkie-talkie. Small things like Mario and Luigi's little voices before battle are removed, and now Bowser looks like a mouth-breathing retard who has his mouth agape all the time. PiT needed a remake much more.
>TTYD remake
Downgrade. Although I do like the post-game being a bit more of a playground to run around in with extra bosses and badges, the translation sucks and the unskippable text kills all replayability.
>SMRPG
It was fine. Virtually inoffensive compared to the other remakes, there's nothing really bad about it.
Just didn't play Brothership, Yoko Shimomura not composing made me lose interest.

A Zelda RPG is actually not too far out of the question, Monolith Soft has been expanding their Zelda team massively and has been vocal about wanting to make their own game in that series from scratch

Fuck off, it was on purpose by Treehouse and everyone knows it.
>Butcher the fuck out of it so people complain online, this is our justification to not keep that style of gameplay in the future
Hell, we KNOW the Vivian shit was done on purpose because people at NoA were bragging about it online.

See, I'm not retarded, so I still have those original games. I "miss" when they made good games like them. I have no interest in paying for games I already have.
And the quick searching I did indicates Brothership sold a little over two million copies, which is not bad after Paper Jam and time-wasting remakes.

They repeat constantly. And they also aren't implemented very well. They're optional things to pick up, but if you don't pick them up you're just running though an empty level most of the time. What is the point?

but i bought both of those except for brothership cause i heard it was hand holdy modern nintendo rpg dogshit for 7 year olds and the artstyle/character design sucked and it has nu fake mario voice actor

Mario & Luigi has always been boring shit carried by soul and humor. The other two were remakes, which I refuse to purchase on principle.
TTYD's remake is honestly offensive as someone who has been waiting 20 years for new Paper Mario game that doesn't suck. The idea that a remake would somehow appeal to me as a fan of the series is about as out of touch as can be.
>>
>>737139937
They were fishing for what will be the best one to move forward with. They didn't want to go balls deep into making a brand new game for it to shit the bed. Since SMRPG did the best maybe e will get a new one of those.

As a little kid, I would have loved Brothership. I would've loved the TTYD and SMRPG remakes if those were the only way I could play those games. It's a step in the right direction, but there's still a list of things basically summed up as "new TTYD" that they still haven't done.
