How do you compensate for dittering in this high resolution age without making it look like ass?
>>
>>737141601
That is a fucking scanned drawing by Tetsuya Nomura. It's not "le pixel art".
>>
>>737141863
AI, DLSS9

Eventually every pixel will be auto-upscaled making OPs shit pic look like >>737142012
>>
>>737141742
You gaming on a 8 inch screen?
>>
>>737142115
What about older games? Filters really don't look good at all.
>>
>>737142012
Does that fact make the dithering go away?
>>
You can't just overlay a shadow mask pattern on something and call it a crt, not all CRTs are the same nor are their input signals.
>>
>>737142194
I disagree with you there but AI isn't really a filter in the same sense as some reshade shader or whatever.
>>
CRTs were fucking shit, blurry, and made obnoxious screeching noises.
t. actually old enough to have used CRTs unlike all you CRTroons
>>
>>737142154
I don't game three inches from my monitor like I'm living in a bombed out hovel, generating electricity with a goat chasing lettuce on a treadmill. I own furniture.
>>
>>737142363
If they were blurry you were poor.
>>
The modern FF7 ports smoothed out the avatars and character models for modern screens.
>>
>>737141601
how do you know your CRT scanlines line up with the original developers' vision? it could look vastly different than intended
>>
>>737142363
>and made obnoxious screeching noises.
the fuck kind of crt did you have? I don't remember anything annoying from them, I kinda miss the noises they made turning on and stuff.
>>

That's too bad.

You were either deaf or your family somehow kept getting new tvs before they developed the whine.
>>
>>737141601
That's a shader not a real crt
>>
>>737142363
they also shot out x-rays that would damage your eyes if you sat too close
spergs that suck off crts are genuinely retarded
>>
>>737142746
I grew up with CRTs and literally never had one that made horrible screeching noises, what the fuck are you talking about retard
>>
>>
>>737141601
The difference is marginal.
Like going from 98 to 99. Yeah, it's technically better, but it's not going to make things like pic related.
A good game will look good regardless if it's played on a crt or a flat screen.
So don't sweat my friends, don't feel bad over shaders and stuff. But don't do the blurr shit to soften the pixels, now THAT is shit.

you weren't using a CRT
you were using DRUGS

I just finished gaming some Ninja Gaiden Black 2 on my 4K Oled at 120hz on my 5090 rig.
A few hours ago I was playing Crazy Taxi 2 at 570i on my Pal CRT on my Dreamcast.

Use the most appropiate display for the game.
If I were an esports player I would probably use some small ultra high hz monitor for example.

Imagine playing a modern game on an old low resolution display.
Or playing an old game on a new high resolution display.
It's idiotic, those games weren't made for such displays.

Why are you lying? This is not an unheard of issue, it's exceedingly common. Just look up "crt whine".

Not really. The FF7 avatars are quite big on a decent TV.
>>
>>737142363
32 here, agree with everything but the noise. I might have blocked it out unleess you're talking about those non connected channels with like the green yellow pink cyan etc blocks across it. CRTs are massively overrated and serve little to no purpose in modern day.

I've never missed old hardware, save for sometimes ergonomics and in general everything these days being made of chinesium. Nostalgiafaggots trying to convince me I'm a teenager for hating having to fight the sunlight on old gameboys without lit screens can eat my asshole.

I'm using an older pc right now, should I plug it in without the dac into the VGA port on my mobo?

CRTs don't have VRR*, which means your options are:
VSync On = Latency or Stuttering
VSync Off = Tearing
One schizo hardware hacking VRR into a single CRT doesn't mean they all have it
>>

Even modern games are designed at a native resolution of 480p with CRT effects necessary to preserve the intent, and you're distorting the game by running higher.
>>
>>737143543
this specific pic has no strategic dithering

>>737144446
experiencing CRT motion at HD res with a modern game would change your mind. resolution is not just spatial, but also temporal when half of your rendered pixels are smeared in motion.
basically, an HD CRT might it might beat the amount of detail of your 4K screen rendered every second.

>>737144789
there are very high resolution PC CRTs able to do 4K(interlaced) resolution at 60hz or just above full-HD(interlaced) at 120hz. the fact that it's interlaced is kinda irrelevant because of how CRTs draw fields at such framerates.
some Wide screen TVs are 1080i
>>
>>737145358
and before anyone tells me that full-HD is only 1080 progressive, it will still render more pixels cleanly than your average 1080p LCD
>>
>>737145358
dang I was unaware, I knew there was like one pc monitor that had HDMI but I didnt think it went that far

>>
>>737144789
Crt computer monitors did 1024x768 and 1280x1024 easily which is comparable with 720p """"hd"""""
>>
>>737144694
Imagine being insane.
>>
>>737145543
the only real drawback aside from weight and square-foot depth is colors IMO, LCDs, especially modern have a way wider color gamut than CRTs but the way the contrast looks kinda makes up for it
>>
>>737145687
imagine being oblivious
>>
>>737145543
some late sony trinitrons also had hdmi iirc
>>
>>737141601
>>737142897
>>737143538
Why do none of these CRT comparisons ever equalize the brightness and contrast?

>>737145930
>>737146205
I might seriously try to track one down, I have the space, I appreciate being informed

I'm sure its expensive but I was looking at OLEDs anyway so maybe I'll expand my search to include bigger CRTS too. I have a smaller CRT (and a normal 1440p 27 inch IPS for general use) I like a lot and use often already but the screen space is simply too small for some modern games. Monster Hunter Wilds looks really good on it for example but you just can't see what you need to
>>
>>737142012
...do you think pixel art isn't done on a base?
>>
crt effects for fully 3d games you can just upscale is pure mental illness. no crt effects and sharp pixels for 2d games is also mental illness.
>>
>>737146583
find a way to try first, just to be sure you like it
>>
>>737146628
depending on the jump in resolution during upscale, a subtle slot mask might help a 3D game tho tho. but yeah, scanlines are overkill for 3D games
>>
I didn't get a flat screen until 2014 when I finally moved out of my parents house and I swear none of my crts ever looked like the shit filterfags pretend it did. you couldn't see pixels or scan lines unless you were sitting way too close to the tv, and crt computer monitors looked better than modern screens in every way except size.
>>
>>737141601
Why did square create this scenes for her?
>>
>>737148832
>why did the square redeem the scenes for hers muchly good?
Good morning, sir. Aerith is dead.
>>
>>737141601
CRTfags only like CRT because it hides the fugly-ass art of their crusty ancient games.
>>
>>737142012
Damn, and I thought Xenoblade 1 Wii's characters were fucking ugly.
>>
>>737148752
i had a cheap CRT TV for a while that had a visible grid mask even at 2 or 3 meter distance but the scanlines weren't visible. My trinitron had some visible vertical grid lines up close but nothing at normal range either.
PVMs have visible lines but they are not for consumer use anyway as their lines are very defined on purpose to single out picture faults...
CRT filters for scalers and emulators are supposed to behave the same way but people use intense parameters because they don't get the point of such filters to begin with, which is to make pixels patterns kinda blend without becoming outright blurry

>>
>>737142826
>>737142503
You can only hear it when you are young, older people don't hear the high pitched noise
>>
>>737141735
"classic" mode in the remaster is deliberately made to look bad so you'd switch over to the "resurrected" artstyle.
>>
>>737150253
yep same as starcraft 1. The mouse also doesn't line up correctly.
>>
>>737148832
Ff7 is a gritty game, she originally had to work like this to survive in the slums
>>
>>737150520
Aerith is dead, btw.
>>
>>737149205
Turn your monitor on.
>>
>>737150520
>>737148832
I'm not surprised they took it out with it only being in some cut content mod to put it back in. It honestly would've been too much had they made Tifa have to sell her body to survive in the slums.
>>
>>737151771
The whole plotline is that she's undercover as a whore to get close to Don Corneo. The rumors existing doesn't mean they are actually true.
>>
>>737141742
You're essentially displaying icons at this point, from such a distance detail is difficult to even see. The game was created to be played on a CRT television.
>>
>>737144074
That looks so fucking bad, goddamn
>>
>>737153290
Your mom looks so fucking bad.
>>
>>737151771
It would, but it would have made the struggle of surviving in the slums as a young woman without a family more real.
They clearly considered it until late in development since the scenes are still in the files. Probably a last minute cut.
>>
>>737141601
I play all my modern games on a CRT too. Whats your point?
