>Inti-creates
>told to make it in Unreal when they didn't understand the engine

>Inafune is a moron and a terrible manager
>inexperienced dev team
>Ben Judd setup the kickstarter with too many promises, saddling the team with endless amounts of expenses and nonsense no one asked for

It's like a perfect example of how not to run a project. Shitty writing aside, all reports are that Kojima is an excellent project manager.

The most depressing part is that those crowdfunding "from people who worked on your favorite childhood game" scams always work and people always fund the fuck out of them even when they always end being, well, scams.
Nostalgia is truly a terrible thing.

Bloodstained was a scam too. 5 million dollars for a game that is worse than the average low budget Steam metroidvania.
That game gets a free pass (or people think it isn't a scam) because it's competent, but a 5m six years project shouldn't be just "competent".

As someone who backed and actually played it, the clear problem is that they couldn't decide whether or not the game was supposed to ape the NES or SNES games.
The maps are clearly designed like MMX games, with deathpits and spike traps everywhere. The problem is they didn't give it MMX's controls and moveset (like wall clinging for example) so everything in the game feels like awful trial and error.
Inafune clearly doesn't understand megaman.

/v/ also shills on a regular basis that project from the creators of Shadow Hearts / Wild Arms even when right now there is nothing to show after 5 years but they're in the middle of a lawsuit due to the money puffing into thin air, so the board has no moral ground to shit on MN9.

They claim they hired by people that love video game, but their community manager, Dina, got the job via nepotism, hate video game, censored anyone that is concern about the game, and is an all around shitty person. She destroy any good will and momentum MN9 had at the start.

And if the project was cancelled tomorrow its backers wouldn't give a shit, claiming that by playing the alphas and betas they got their money worth and will look forward to the next Space simulator kickstarter.

Why were the early 2010s so full of massively overhyped kickstarters?

that really isnt all that much when you have to worry about paying a whole team, in this regard having more people work on it was probably a detriment then if it was just 3 guys like something like hollow knight.
> that is worse than the average low budget Steam metroidvania.
you're way off with that bloodstained is really good

Nah, like everything in life there must be a balance between executives, managers, directors, designers and workers.
An exec forcing a game to cut content to be resold as DLC because the project is "woefully undermonetized" isn't exactly a good thing.
>>
>>737144392
>that is worse than the average low budget Steam metroidvania.
Completely wrong, game bleeds style between the graphics, music, and game-feel that builds a lot from the Soma Cruz Castlevanias, easily a top game that sits with the rest of the top-tier Castlekinos. Good-ass chunk of the low-budget vanias are clunky pixelshit that get old within the first couple of hours and leverage a pro-level difficulty curve to attract players and disguise the game as deep, don't match close.
Only complaint I'd have about the game is the Switch port being ass, Miriam could have had more costume customization options, and while it's not exactly about the first game, the sequel's main characters of choice seem very bland at outset.

This is the kind of bias I was talking about.
Because the game is competent and not an unplayable piece of shit (or unlike many KS you can play it at all) you think it's good when it's just mediocre.

Don't forget a major key point: that one bitch pissing off the entire fanbase, hovering around it like a cloud of flies until nobody wanted anything to do with the game.

>not high-budget enough
>not universally praised enough by journalists
>not a clone of some currently-active staple game everyone is already addicted to (sorry Mega Man. RIP.)
>relatively little "I had a blast, this is the future of gaming" stuff
>the dev team wasn't shitting on the fans for not liking it (it was mostly that shit-tier CM or whatever she was that should've been fired almost immediately)
>not funded by some huge legacy company with near-unlimited funds
>didn't take almost a decade to make
Nah, it's just a classic flop, I wouldn't compare it to Concord or early-SWTOR.

No. Not at all. I say this as someone who 100%ed it. The game doesn't even expand your inventory until chapter 5, the weapons are all garbage outside of the default pistol and shotgun, actually firing at enemies deals virtually no damage, and if you buy any weapon at all outside of those two your inventory and drops get filled with ammo from those new guns that all do even worse damage than what you already have. The combat is literally
>Are you in chapter 3 before the infection cutscene?
Sway sway full combo.
>Are you in chapter 3 after the infection cutscene?
Sway sway sway full combo. Shoot if you want to insta-kill, otherwise save your time.

"Global audience" is exactly like saying "modern audience." It means making things lame and gay. Foreigners don't like anime because it's "made for them."

Sonic was always made for a western audience. The games were often made in America (if only partially and by mostly Japanese devs). They even designed him based on Felix the Cat, for fuck's sake. I wouldn't even say he's for a "global audience." He's just more for America than for Japan. And that's OK, because he's still targeted.

Ive had decent results with kickstarter, but im mostly a fa/tg/uy.
Backed multiple reaper bones over the years, always delivered, even if they got slightly worse in value over time.
My D&D group backed a bloodborne styled 5e release, was pretty good.
Pillars of Eternity was a good enough game as long as you ignored the backer NPCs. A bit slow, but the mega dungeon was great.
I had backed yookalaylee, but they refunded it after they canceled my console choice.
I forget if Shantae was KS, but if so that was fun
Currently backing a godzilla TTRPG, we'll see how it plays.

It might've worked if they actually designed the fucking game around it, but no, here's a row of several enemies in a row that you'll hit if you try to dash through the weakened first one, forcing you to shoot all of them one by one with reduced damage and not get the dash execute.
Oh, but there's a piercing shot upgrade you can pick up! ...except you lose all of your buster upgrades after dying lmao.

It's funny how much sense this made in 2013 to 2015. People were really expecting Ubisoft, EA and Bethesda to eat up the entire industry while Capcom would be put down like a sick dog. Then suddenly every single western triple A developer is either bankrupt or part of a larger monopoly. I would never expect to live in a world where Xbox is a complete joke, Nintendo is back in the big console sales and people talk about Frontsofware and Atlus games at the same level people used to talk about Skyrim. Where even is the Assasins Creed and Uncharted nostalgia people were expected to have by now? Will there EVER be nostalgia for those type of games?

Objectively, the game was shit, but her being that much of an absolute shitheap of a person while being the in-between for the devs and the fans(IIRC one of the very few Japanese-English channels in the middle? Don't quote me on that.)makes it a lot worse.
>>
>>737145827
Kikestarters were the new thing and people were in love with the idea of supporting the poor independent developers directly and cutting out the greedy middlemen like publishers. Turns out meeting deadlines, being realistic with your budget and actually releasing things isn't that simple.
>>
>>737159853
Japanese companies just needed a rude wakening, western companies need a enema. It was basic stuff like "Make your games easily available, kill this region lock crap, invest in real online, make consoles where you have at least the OPTION of playing like a normal game would, stop being stingy with adult indie games on your store" they are not THERE yet in terms of fully understanding the global market, but advancements were made. Ironically enough what saved them was keeping the good things from traditionalism like AA releases, smaller teams and smaller production cost.

Everything.
Pic is what they sold.
Everything of it disappeared after the first showing of gameplay shortly after the campaign was over.
And the whole thing about having to dash over every enemy proves nobody bothered to play the game before launch because they would have figured how bad it is.

>Sonic Twitter was burying this game
>we all fucking cheered the big studios squashing the indie ones
No one ever talks about the indie game backlash of the mid 2010s but it was there. Until more 3D based indie games came out in the late 2010s there was a lot of hate for 8 bit retro style games in general. Undertale was the last of the bunch and indies would be fucked until A Hat in Time in the late 2010s
