When I pirated Halo CE on PC shortly after it released
>slow movement
>nonexistent level design
>boring weapons
>no pacing
>no pickups to reward exploring
>no platforming
>no puzzles
Would it really hurt to have some traps? Some monster closets? Some rewards for exploring?
Halo is a cover shooter more primitive than Doom 2

I can agree with the exploration bit. Even Halo fans wanted something like Red Faction 1's level design where you could find power weapons by breaking walls or just anything that added hidden parts to a level. I remember how many people wanted that gate on Standoff to be operable. Halo maps were perfect for that sort of thing, but Bungie never took that extra step sadly.

Infinite. I hoped and coped through 4 and 5 and was willing to give 343 one last chance - hoping they would finally get their head out of their ass after so many years of insults and criticism, but of course they managed to drop the ball once again. I have not interacted with any Halo media since shortly after Infinite's release and I don't plan on doing so as long as I'm alive. Halo is dead.

Halo 4
I had some fun with it but the story was terrible and the multiplayer didn't have much allure so I didn't stick around for long
Watched Halo 5 being a disaster from the sidelines as I didn't have an Xbox and Halo Infinite being garbage no longer phased me since I was long checked out
So I guess Reach really was the swan song afterall

My experience was very similar and Infinite was the final nail in the coffin. I only stuck with 5 because I played it a bunch with /vg/ otherwise it would have just been MCC. 343 has truly learned nothing over the years sadly.

Somewhere between 4 and 5. Both are garbage games, especially 5. Halo without Bungie is just soulless garbage, but it's also just an outdated franchise that was a product of its time and doesn't matter past the 00's.

When I played the Halo 5 multiplayer beta around 2014/2015 and noticed that every hallmark sign of the franchise metamorphosing into a soulless clusterfuck hero shooter was now firmly entrenched in 343's gameplay ethos. Halo does not need climbing, dashing, sprinting, ground pounds and holographic iron sights on everything.

Around 2016 after playing Doom (2016). After playing that, Halo felt dated to me, it gets worse when went back to PC shooters and N64 shooters. Around that point, I realized that the problem was that Xbox was always shit that dumbed down console and PC games and I just couldn't go back after that. With gaming shifting back to pre-Xbox days currently, I feel like Halo will be a bigger niche then other niche games today along with Gears. Halo worked in 2001 because it finally made an FPS work well on a controller, but console shooters have finally reached PC shooters (Doom 2016), Halo feels dated today. Plus, pussifying the Master Chief was a mistake that the series can't recover from when other series went all in on the power fantasy.

I still care for halo and hold halo quite close to my heart. 343 halo on the other hand I don’t just NOT care, I HATE I HAAAAATE IT. historians should be studying microsofts sabotage via incompetence of halo so future generations can learn from it but they won’t.

I was a PS2/3 owner during the peak Halo years so I never even started caring for Halo until after basically everyone else had stopped doing so. Played 1-3 on a used 360 I bought in 2017 and Had A Blast™. I can see why Xbros liked them, they're way more than the Playstation exclusive shooters like Killzone (never liked it) and Resistance (was ok, but didn't love it).

Reach. The 1-50 rank system was dropped and the arena replacement was shit. Armor abilities sucked especially ARMOR LOCK ARMOR LOCK ARMOR LOCK. Weapon sandbox sucked with more hitscan guns, shitty bloom to compensate for that hitscan, and useless shit like the plasma repeater or that continuous beam rifle. No dual wield. The armor customization system was an insane grind for anything cool instead of being unlocked by game challenges and achievements. The maps sucked with most just soulless shitty forgeworld maps that all felt the same, with many of those maps being remakes of maps bungie was too lazy to do for real.

Halo Wars is about as good as RTS will ever get on console as it was invested pretty heavily in and designed from the ground up for the 360. Which is not very good, but it's still fun. It was made by what was left of the corpse of Ensemble Studios (Of Age of Empires and Age of Mythology fame) so they had some solid rts chops.
Halo Wars 2 was the real surprise for me, though. For being set in the nu-Halo timeline, the story was surprisingly not gay and terrible. They also really iterated on and improved the gameplay. I went in with no expectations and was genuinely shocked by how much I enjoyed the variety of scenario design in the campaign. But yeah unfortunately they are still on the smaller side of scale for RTS games. It would be so cool to have larger scale battles in this universe.
>>
>>737154401
>The armor customization system was an insane grind for anything cool instead of being unlocked by game challenges and achievements.
I remember people just grinding firefight (which was otherwise actually fun) with the lamest settings possible to get points for armor.
Compared to Halo 3 it's just such a stupid system. Seeing a dude in badass Hayabusa or EOD armor in 3, you knew he actually did something to get it.
>>
>>737155382
Looking back, I'm glad Halo Wars failed, Microsoft destroyed the innovation and growth of shooters with Halo, Turok was the future of console shooters and Halo stagnated the genre until Doom returned. I'm glad Halo Wars failed because it succeeded, it would have ruined the RTS genre too.

4. The new enemies were fucking annoying, the story was retarded, the redesigns were a textbook case of greebling, multiplayer sucked and none of my friends gave a shit so I never got to try custom games or forge. After giving up on the game I tried to read the book that supposedly explains who the fuck the new villain is, got about a third of the way through before realizing I didn't care about halo anymore and gave up.
>>
>>737156317
Halo and Bungie weren't personally responsible for the stagnation of fps games in those generations. They were just successful, and it's not their fault every single other game tried to copy that success but even worse.

I'd be lying if I said I stopped caring it's Gaylo and I care a lot about it.
But I recognize I will probably never be bothered with playing another game again because microcock decided to blow finally releasing Gaylo 3 AND Reach on PC with a stunt to try and rob a bunch of linux fags who pre-ordered and beta tested with them and were aggressive in trying to force everyone into the xbox live ecosystem for it.
It's currently dead as fuck on PC and it genuinely would be nice if it wasn't, and I'm not ever gonna get a new hexbox to grind out the battle pass just to customize my nigga again.

I know, it was Microsoft, you look deep, you start to see a pattern with that company since they made the Xbox.

After Halo 4. Haven't played 5 or Infinite, last time I played the MCC was probably 2020 as well, been many years since I played anything Halo.
They just lost me, or maybe I grew out of it. Halo 4 just wasn't very good, and the story was not interesting to me either. I don't even know where the story went after that I know such little about the games now.

This. I played 4 at launch fully expecting disappointment. And while it wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, it was still bad enough to make me avoid whatever came after. Reach was great and still felt and played like halo but with armor abilities, but it was clear what direction the series would be going after introducing a sprint mechanic.

The good times are long over due. You will be playing halo on a real machine brother, not this cheap free torrent crap for slaves that doesn’t have modern addons like lgbt and proper pronouns. Buy Xbox.

PC is the best way to play games, my dad just buys me a machine capable of running runescape 3D without even asking. I think consoles would probably be overclocking their mainframes trying to compute updated graphics. It’s a fucking awesome laptop and I get almost no lag when woodcutting and barbarian fishing.

Last time I check, you cannot emulate Halo 2 xbox (there was a pc version but require >vista) and Halo 3 got release a few years later, anyways on the 360, which will never get a proper emulation until a decade later.

Cortana can’t say no. These talking ai girls are unbelievably sexy. They do it all, every hole whenever you want big boy. They’re there to please your eyes and make your cock explode. Stop having cheap orgasms with prostitutes, the Cortana is real and you can download her to your phone to experience what a real orgasm is like. Design your perfect ai woman and she will talk to you all day long and will give you explosive cumshots onto her face whenever you ask for it. Shes the baddest bitch ever and she’s yours.

After I played Halo 4
At least I can still play MCC sans 4, modded, and fight alongside marine and ODST buddies. It’s one of the few things in video games that consistently entertains me. If Bungie made 2 or 3 more Halos after Reach they should of focused on Firefight, making custom firefight maps in forge, and NPC wars in general because it is actually quite fun to watch the NPCs fight. Also ship battles because covenant and UNSC ships are cool.

I stopped caring after Reach. I gave 4 a shot, despite fundamentally disagreeing with the return of the Forerunner because it was Halo. I thought the interpersonal angle between Chief and Cortana was an interesting idea.
Their lack of storytelling nous became even more apparent when Halo 5 came out and they undid 4's conclusion, \and thatt was the franchise done for me. And then again with Infinite when they flipped to another antagonist and antagonist faction because they didn't have a plan and just transplantedd a B-list antagonist with Atriox because he was well received in Halo Wars 2. Too many retards in the fandom started hoping and coping because of nostalgia armour, when it was apparent that 343 did not engender any trust with their track record.
I thought, and still think, that 343 are hyper retards for their whole "everything is canon" and "we need to make Halo a part of a multimedia storytelling universe" shit, which meant that they would explain every stupid fucking detail with a canonical reason like the change in Master Chief's armour when they could have handwaved it as an art style change.
They consistently wrote themselves into holes and had to write themselves out in books, comics, and blog entries that 99% of fans did not care about.

Yeah, I actually enjoyed Reach. But I still remember going over to a friend's to finally play Halo 4 and the experience is just a complete hole in my memory. Like I remember being confused about why we were still fighting the covenant, and not understanding any of the dialogue in the new villain's intro cutscene. That's it. Nothing about it mechanically or narratively left any real impression on me.

Man I was so stupidly obsessed with Red vs Blue in those wild west days of the internet. I feel like it embodies a simpler time, where the basic thought of video game based discussion and humor was incredibly novel to me because I had no one in real life who really gave a shit about it.
>>
>>
>>737156958
>. I don't even know where the story went after that I know such little about the games now.
They quite literally lost the plot and rewrote the story twice, with different antagonists and antagonist factions with each new game.
To sum things up:
>Halo 4 -> Halo5
>Didact didn'tt die at the end of Halo 4, was acttually teleported to another planet, killed Black Team, then got composed by Blue team - in a comic
>Halo 5
>Jul M'dama's revived Covenant story in Spartan Ops ends instantly as he gets killed off in the first mission
>Corttana didn't actually die. Now she's back and evil, leading an AI/Forerunner led faction called the Created and wants to be a benevolant dictator using new Forerunner EMP superweapons called Guardians
>Halo 5 -> 6
>Halo Wars 2 happens and they introduce Red Covenant with its Brute leader. Kinda cool, but spin-off tier antagonist onlyy
>Cortana's all powerful Forerunner faction does fuck all, failed, and Cortana is killed off-screen
>Halo 6
>Introduce the spin off game leader as the new main antagonist because he's now a galactic threat
>Inroduce brand new species that has never been mentioned before, but is now a great new evil because they're immune to Halos

Red is the color of Indians and blue is the color of Aryans. Halo is post Soviet brainwashing designed to stoke tensions among the resistance. Which itself was a distraction from the bigger issue, which is why nobody really cares about all these brown boys being carted over and our sexual options dwindling. Our ancestors were eating white teenagers asses for every meal.

I think a big problem people have with older internet stuff is being in abject denial that it was good because of the age they watched it in, and that somehow the internet and media production as a whole has gotten better when basic A:B tests show otherwise without getting into the fact that media production online is completely divorced from the actual purpose it served and now is in the same general internet slurry defrauding google's advertising clients.

I didn't say RVB was bad in retrospect. Just that there was a time where I was really obsessed with any sort of video game based production or humor because it was the first time that I and a lot of other people had apparently ever connected about that sort of thing.
Machinima like RVB, webcomics like CAD and 8-Bit Theater, old review shows like X-Play, etc.

Around when Reach came out. Didn't like it as much as any of the games that came out before it. Like it was okay, made some new gameplay changes for better or worse, and forge was better than ever, but nobody really made anything cool with it like they did with Halo 3. Plus a lot of my friends moved onto other shooters and shit so I just didn't have as much fun with it in general. Haven't played anything since

I do think the internet was inherently better back then though. Messier and clunkier, but not so homogenized by corporate monopolies that are free to make everything progressively worse with each passing year because the biggest websites have no realistic competitors.

>When did you stop caring for Halo?
When they released MCC on Xbone. I sold it after about a week of no patches and got a PS4. Never played Halo 5. Never played the single player of Infinite because no co-op. I played the multiplayer for about a month and left because there was nothing to do. No forge, no customs, there were like, 6 playlists, no progression, all the armor unlocks were locked behind the eshop or a monthly subscription. They subceeded even my lowest expectations with Infinite. Kinda impressive actually.
>>
Reach. I didn't like sprint in halo and didn't like the armor abilities, the inferior forge models, the worse stock maps and their over reliance on studio made forge maps in matchmaking. Halo forge community was already basically dead by that point and people still preferred customs in 3 because foundry and sandbox just looked better.

Local Pvp Halo 3 felt good with the homies. I'll never forget being smashed by the hammer and plasma grenaded. I suck at FPS but IDK I liked being creative with my kills in that game, I wasn't always the best but I chalk that out to having an astigmatism, really fucks with you in the last second for second Battle Rifle off who got the most and It's them fuck I died again.
The campaign In Halo 3 was the proper send off, I felt like Bungie stopped caring after that point. Everything else felt cash grabby, jetpacks? I liked the snow level in Halo 3 the best.
As for the campaign, the final level was KINO I've only felt in completing Cave Story, Star Fox 64, OOT, Majoras Mask, Sonic3&K, the "apocalypse" everything is crashing around you final level is really the best trope:
