Half-Life 2. I've never been so disappointed in my entire life. Shitty gameplay, setting(from cold war era Black Mesa facility to... random European town?), "characters"(who are all retcons from the original game. BARNEY WAS JUST A DEFAULT SECURITY GUARD IN THE ORIGINAL. HOW? HE'S JUST 1 GUY NOW?). Valve infuriates me. Also, the Source engine is fucking dogshit and all the physics puzzles in the game drove me nuts. The entirety of Half-Life 2 is just a tech demo for the Source engine.

Yeah but the thread is about downgrades and bad sequels. If it wasn't called Thief it would probably be remembered as a decent attempt at a modern stealth game, but since it's called Thief it can't avoid being compared to the originals because it's a massive downgrade.
Also you're shitting on HL2, and although I'm not a huge fan of it either, it's nowhere near as bad of a downgrade compared to HL1 as the Thief reboot is to the original games.
