>be game designer up to the mid 90s
>games only take 3 hours to complete
>design deliberate time wasters like these poorly placed, tedious platforms that you will have to try multiple times to get through without falling all the way to the bottom because otherwise your game will be exposed for the dogwater that it is
>unfair nonsense is standardized across the entire industry by overly punishing design choices such as making players loses several levels worth of progress simply for dying a few times or even worse, they have to start the entire game over again
There's a reason why this slop isn't fondly remembered, we have actual games now that are meant to be fun and not brutally engineered dogshit that's designed first and foremost to make players miserable. In the future, games before the 3D era will be looked upon as poorly designed relics that we unfortunately had to trudge our way through to get to the real era of fun.

Except it is remembered fondly. The slop that's forgotten are linear hallways that still for some reason need yellow paint to guide the mentally disabled "mature adult"

I can see that being the opinion of the brown sub 85 IQ masses in the future, yes.

>did i lose 30 seconds of time in current year?

You have the freedom to walljump off the sides of the platforms or straight up one side of the wall itself even if you're good enough. You just suck.

>>737149358
Literally none of this is true.

You fucking suck. I'm better at vidya than you, I've 100% Metal Gear Rising on Revengeance and I've beaten all of the Fromsoft games + DK Countries several times. Let me guess, those aren't actually hard and the real hard games are some obscure bullshit you're about to pull out of your ass. Btw, I've beaten Ninja Gaiden 4 too.

This is the cancer born of modern gaming. They see it as
>I already cleared this part so the game is disrespecting me for failing this jump
They don't take the blame for fucking up. Nor do they understand they need to get better at the game. They want everything to give them that sweet, sweet dopamine instantly without any struggle.

>There's a reason why this slop isn't fondly remembered
Huh? It's one of the most beloved franchises of all time.
If you want to make a bait thread about it you should claim it's overrated which it is instead of claiming it isn't fondly remembered, which is obviously false.
>>
>>737149462
Which is funny because actual player controls have only degraded since the HD era began. Janky, unresponsive inputs because animations need to play out, everyone moves at the speed of a geriatric grandpa. It's impossible to find it fun when they go out of their way to make the very act of controlling the character itself boring.
>>
>>737149757
Relax, Sam Hyde. you're good at gaming.
>>
Super Metroid is so fucking good. Gets more fun every time I replay it.
>>
>>737149179
I've been playing vidya since the 80s and grew up with all the changes in the industry, and you know what? Those old games were about we difficult for kids as modern games are for modern kids. If I go back to those old games I used to blitz through I get my ass handed to me. You're only ever as good as the challenges you're up against. Games are more enjoyable overall nowadays for sure, but they're also just another brainrot comfy entertainment commodity that will never push you into being skilful at something.
>>
>>737149358
Literally all of this is true.

Learn to wall jump, n00b. I can climb that whole room in mere seconds.

Obviously I figured out that much, that's why I replied with an ancient copypasta. Filthy phoneposting scum deserve nothing but mockery.
>>
>>737149179
I also hate games that have enemies. I shouldn't have to waste my time fighting random bullshit. Take me to the next cutscene already.
>>
>>737149179
Then you come back to the same room during the escape and shinespark up in 3 seconds, it's called good game design child

>poorly placed
It's so you get a feel for different jumps you'll have to make in the future you massive retard. Holy shit how bad are you to fail at something and get butthurt at it when I did it trivially at 5 years old?
>>
Is no one going to bring up that the reason why this room is like this is because that was how the platforms were arranged in the NES Metroid?
>>
>>737149179
Just walljump up, zoomer.
>>
>>737149179
But games today have even more time wasters?
>>
I don't know what reality is worse
OP is baiting and everyone is falling for it like h's actually being legit
Or OP isn't baiting at all and is actually that stupid.
>>
>platforming that requires minor thought and doesnt let you just mindlessly keep jumping up is "unfair nonsense"
Pathetic statement, but i'm inclined to believe its bait
>>
>>737152684
I assume games are generally defined as voluntary time wasters.
>>
I try to stay away from the "/v/ is one person" fallacy but it really seems like there's one guy who fucking hates Super Metroid specifically and he's been posting about it fucking daily, and it isn't even the usual guy everyone argues with in Metroid threads.
>>
>>737149358
>Except it is remembered fondly.
Fpbp
Sometimes I'd hop down to the bottom after getting to the top, just to bounce up the platforms again because jumping was fun
>>
>>737149898
i have been playing older games and the movement is a lot better. the responsiveness and mobility makes the platforming sections easier
>>
>>737149179
It's to teach you a system of movement that will seem floaty and awkward initially but actually has the potential to be incredibly tight and rewarding if you get good at it.

zoomers don't understand this because they don't play video games to have fun, they just see it as a task on a checklist to be completed

lol
>>
>>737153165
I made this thread because I fell once and thought the idea of somebody seething about that section was hilarious. I even circled the platforms to add extra emphasis on the butthurt.
>>
>>737149179
the reason the game's intent doesn't work on you is because your initial reaction is to flip out and post about it on /v/.
This room is 3 parts important (if you count power fantasy at the end).
>Teach player to stop being shit
>Show player memory importance
>guide player to expressive decisions next time around
but you're a zoomo fusioncel that can't understand object permanence. You have been filtered by one of the easiest action games to ever be released

>>
>>737149179
You're terrible at games.

In this section, all you have to do is make your jumps from a stationery position, instead of while moving - it makes the whole thing simple and it only takes a minute to get through.
Anyone with any experience with platform games will figure this out on their first go.

You can see whoever made this webm >>737156707
does most of his jumps from a stationery position. You can tell because you don't flip/rotate in the air when you do it this way and it makes controlling where you land much more easy.
>>
You can wall jump to get through this quicker.
>making players loses several levels worth of progress simply for dying a few times or even worse, they have to start the entire game over again
That is because learning how to do something in isolation is different from doing it in one go. Similarly, you're not expected to just drop a game the moment you reach some kind of end screen - many games let you sloppily reach the end, especially as time went on, but certain players will stick to games that interested them and keep trying to get better. As a result, some things in these games only gain meaning after you become more experienced and learn how to engage with the game fully, like how it can take years for weapon sets/stage design of some Mega Man games to click, rather than appeasing you on the first go.

Platforms are wider but yes is same area. ZM go for NES map layout tho, no reason for sperg on SM given that is literally starting area and have no timer.
